“Just a little fun and games,” I say, coming closer. “Lie down on the bed, hands up.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He complies quickly, pulling his shirt off in the process. The tattoos that once drew me in, thinking he was

so wise and complex, now seem silly, like he doesn’t know who he is and has merely marked himself with symbols he barely understands

to give the impression that he’s deep and thoughtful.

“Your safe word is ‘I want my mommy,’” I explain as I handcuff him to his bed frame.

He chuckles. “Okay.”

“And I’m going to do whatever I want to you.” With him prone and firmly secured, I reach back into my bag and pull out a set

of nipple clamps, placing them on the bed.

He bites his lip, wiggling in excitement.

Okay, not what I was expecting. I continue to the next item, pulling out a bright pink paddle that says Yes Daddy on it.

Jax’s eyebrows shoot up, but the smile remains on his face.

That didn’t shake him at all. I grab the last item from my bag, a set of anal beads ranging in size from newb to pro.

Jax chuckles. “Oh yeah, I never thought I’d see the day.”

Wow, this guy is kinkier than I thought. Against my better judgment, I find myself getting turned on again.

“Close your eyes,” I order, picking up the paddle and smacking it against the palm of my hand.

“Yes ma’am.” He eagerly squeezes his eyes shut. I quickly grab his phone on his end table and try to unlock it with his face,

but it doesn’t work with his eyes closed. Shit. I forgot about that security feature. I have to buy myself more time.

Reaching into my bag, I pull out a blindfold and secure it around his eyes. “No peeking,” I say coyly. “I have a big surprise

for you.”

“I love surprises.” He wriggles, eager.

I type in my best guess to his phone passcode. Five blanks. I can do this.

F-U-C-K-S . Wrong answer.

I try again. 4-2-0-6-9 . No. Dammit! I only have one more shot at this. Not wanting to risk getting locked out of his phone, I tuck it into my pocket and head

to the door. “I’m gonna go get changed into something a bit more comfortable. Don’t move.”

I find Ellie in the kitchen swapping labels from his tuna cans to tins of cat food. She just can’t help herself. “What’s wrong?”

she whispers.

“I can’t unlock his phone and the face security doesn’t work with his eyes closed and I only have one chance before we’re

locked out!” I say all in one breath, trying to keep my voice low. We’ve worked so hard to get his phone and there’s so much

riding on figuring out his password.

She takes it from me. “Okay. Think—I’m Matt. I’m a playboy,” she mocks his voice. “I date multiple women and tell them whatever they want to hear to get in their pants. I drive a cool old truck and have a tattoo of a ram next to my dick.” Her eyebrows shoot up, and she types in A-R-I-E-S.

Bam. Opened.

We scan his messages, hundreds left unread, which gives me anxiety just looking at it. Lo and behold, most of them are women,

each with flirty texts, plans to meet up, and explicit pictures. Each contact has notes about the things she likes and the

things she’s told him in an effort to keep them all straight. Ellie and I share a disgusted glare, further cementing the fact

that what we’re doing is for the greater good.

Ellie taps her name and reads the notes attached. “Cute, vanilla, wants a simple farm life, likes Christmas too much, 7.”

She gasps. “He called me a seven! What the fuck!”

“Shhh,” I chastise.

“Everything okay out there?” Jax calls.

“Uh, yeah,” I shout back. “Just fighting with these corset loops.” I lower my voice to Ellie. “I don’t want to know what mine

says. Let’s just do what we came here to do and move on with it.”

Ellie refocuses, moving through various settings to put our plan into place. I fidget nervously as I wait for Ellie to finish

her task, tapping away on the phone with a focus so intense she may as well be a hacker.

The handcuffs jingle in the next room. “Mariah? You coming back?”

“Be right there!” I shake my hands and shift from foot to foot, not sure how much longer I can delay this.

A few moments later Ellie looks up from her work. “Done.”

“All of it?”

She grins wickedly, then counts on her fingers. “Changed his ring tone to something obnoxious and embarrassing.”

“Good.”

Ellie holds up another finger. “Scrambled his contacts on all the latest women he’s been messaging so he confuses their names

and basically tells them all he’s screwing around on them.”

“Golden.”

“And,” she continues, “created texting shortcuts in his phone from cock to fart , pussy to ham sandwich , and fuck to have mommy and me time. ”

I choke on a laugh. “This will mess with his sexting so much!”

“Can you imagine? ‘I want to shove my fart down your throat’?” Her face contorts with barely contained laughter. “‘I can’t wait to have mommy and me time later’?”

I’m nearly dying trying to keep my laughter silent, my whole body shaking while I cover my mouth with my hand. After we get

ahold of ourselves, I take the phone back. “Okay, let’s finish this and get out of here before we get caught.”

“I’m almost done, just five more minutes.” She turns back to her can switching and I return to the bedroom.

“Sorry about that, I had a bit of a costume mishap.”

“It’s all good. Now, where were we?”

“Hmm,” I say, trying to drag this out as long as possible. “I don’t remember. Where would you like me to start?”

“How about with that paddle?” he suggests.

I roll my eyes, but pick it up, wishing these props had brought less excitement and more fear—but I underestimated him. I

smack it against my palm a few times, and each time Matt wriggles. I consider, for a moment, using it on him, but don’t want

to give him the pleasure. Instead, I pull a feather from my bag and trace it from his rib cage to his exposed armpit.

“Hey!” he squirms, then giggles in a high-pitched tone. “That’s not a padd— hehehehe !”

I grin as I tickle up and down his abdomen, watching him writhe, enjoying this far too much. “What, you don’t like this?”

“ Hehehe — it’s not what I exp— hehehe !”

“Well, I don’t hear a safe word, so I guess I’ll keep going,” I tease.

“Aw, shit, what was the— hehehe !”

I keep moving the feather over his body, making sure I give him moments of respite to breathe, while Jax struggles to remember the ridiculous safe word I gave him. Suddenly, the doorbell rings.

I pause. “Who could that be?”

Jax slumps against the bed, breath coming in short gasps. “What?”

The doorbell rings again. “Might be something important,” I say.

He licks his lips. “Yeah, I should probably get that. Can you let me go?”

I oblige, removing the blindfold and unlocking his restraints. He sits up, rubbing his wrists and giving me a frustrated glare.

I bite my lip against a smile, then let him leave the room before hastily packing my things and following him.

I meet him at the door just as he’s picking up a large gift basket.

“Weird, I didn’t order anything,” he mutters, his brow furrowed as he steps inside and closes the door with his foot.

“Who’s it from?” I ask, my heart pounding in my ears.

“Don’t know.” Jax carries the basket to the kitchen table and fishes out the envelope attached to the side before ripping

it open. His face blanches.

“Who’s it from, Jax?” I repeat louder, trying to sound like a jilted lover.

Jax ignores me, dropping the letter to inspect the basket closer.

I pick up the letter and read it aloud: “‘I’m not too chicken to profess my feelings for you! This is just the beginning of

our egg-cellent homestead. Keep these warm like you do my heart! E 3’”

As I finish the last sentence, Jax lifts a towel to reveal a clutch of speckled brown eggs nestled in straw.

“What the hell? Who is ‘E’? You’re screwing around on me!” I accuse with my best appalled expression.

“I have no idea what’s going on!” he shouts, shoulders around his ears.

I slap the letter to his chest, then turn on my heel and walk away. “I thought I was the only person you’re seeing!”

Jax is right behind me. “I swear, I have no idea who gave this to me!”

“Yeah, right.” I shove my feet into my shoes, then pull the door open “Well, I hope whoever they are you two have a nice life

together.”

“Mariah!” he calls after me as I walk quickly away, but doesn’t follow.

It isn’t until I’m around the corner of his building and I see Ellie waiting in our escape vehicle that I breathe. She greets

me with her trademark fist-clench-and-squeal as I jump in the passenger side.

“Go, go, go!” I slap the dash like we’re fleeing a bank robbery.

“Woooo!” Ellie howls, raising a fist as we peel out of the parking lot, home free.
