Int. Jenna’s Apartment - Day

Annie and Jenna are sitting on the couch, folding cloth diapers as baby Henry plays on the floor.

ANNIE

Never in my life have I been treated so

poorly at an establishment. And during

Christmas, of all times!

JENNA

I know, and I’ve tried going somewhere else,

but their coffee is divine. Seriously! Have

you tasted it?

Annie sips coffee.

ANNIE

Okay, you’re right, that’s the best coffee I’ve ever tasted. But at what cost? Now I have to go back there after he was so

rude to me.

JENNA

What he lacks in customer service he

makes up for in cuteness, am I right?

ANNIE

I didn’t notice.

Jenna playfully pushes Annie.

JENNA

Oh, come on! I’m happily married to the

love of my life and have the world’s most

perfect baby—

Baby Henry coos.

JENNA (CONT’D)

But even I can’t help but drool into

my latte when I pick it up from him every

morning.

ANNIE

A person that grumpy could never be attractive

to me. And I could never be with someone who

hates Christmas. It’s the best time of year!

Besides, I have my great life in Seattle, I

can’t get wrapped up in something here.

JENNA

I thought your job at the firm was

stressing you out.

ANNIE

I’m a lawyer. No matter where I work, I’ll

be stressed out.

JENNA

True. (beat) I still can’t believe you

decided to be a lawyer.

ANNIE

Why wouldn’t I be?

JENNA

I remember growing up you loved your

Easy-Bake Oven so much. I thought

for sure you’d end up being a baker.

ANNIE

As fun and more relaxing as baking

would be, it wouldn’t pay enough to

support my lifestyle in the city.

I’m lucky I have such a well-paying

job. Do I work all the time? Yes. Am I

stressed out? For sure. Is being a

lawyer like having an endless amount of

homework? Yes. But a girl’s got to eat.

Besides, you’ve tasted my baking. There’s a

reason I never graduated past the Easy-Bake.

JENNA

I’m sure if you worked at it you’d

be great, though. Maybe you just need

to take some lessons.

ANNIE

I don’t have time to take baking lessons.

I’ll stick to my store-bought cookies for now. It’s nice just being here with you

and taking a break from my busy schedule.

As much as I love the city, being here

reminds me that slowing down would be

nice one day, too.
