Meaning he was doubting his own work, something that was very unlike my Ty.I’ll join you shortly. And I’ll bring you something to eat.It would be my excuse for visiting him, something to help cover his needing my help with the interrogation.

Most of the Nightmare Fae assumed I simply took care of the Hell Fae King’s needs and nothing more. It didn’t matter that I was shrouded in power—power I didn’t bother hiding, at that. They just presumed Ty did all the work for me.

I didn’t try to dissuade those false notions. It was best to let them underestimate me.

However, speaking of underestimating, Zakkai was certainly not doing that where I was concerned. Instead, the Source Architect was still scrutinizing me in that emotionless way of his.

“You’re beginning to make me feel like a research subject.”

“You are,” he replied. “I don’t like unknowns. And you are very much an unknown.”

“Well, perhaps you’ll get to know me better during my upcoming visits.” I waited for him to correct me. When he didn’t, I said, “I’ll be sure to let Ty know that Ajax and Cami are currently guests of the Midnight Fae Queen and her mates.”

No reply.

That wasn’t a denial either, though, so I accepted it.

“You may need to add Az to that guest list,” I added. “I not only heard Cami and Ajax mating, but I also felt it. So the Phoenix would have sensed it as well. I suspect he’ll be here soon.”

I was actually surprised he hadn’t arrived already. His beast had to be close to taking over by now, his need to secure his mating intentions overriding everything else.

Although, if anyone could tame the dangerous animal, it was Az. Hence the reason fate had gifted him with his Phoenix side.

Of course, Az might not even realize the cause of his Phoenix’s agitation. He didn’t seem to understand that his beast had imprinted itself on Cami via Ajax, thus bonding the three of them for life.

Or perhaps it wasn’t a misunderstanding at all, just denial.

Regardless, it would certainly prove entertaining in the coming hours or days.

“Good luck,” I told Zakkai. “I suspect you’re in for quite an experience.”

Zakkai snorted. “Every day is an experience in this palace.”

Given the magical embers floating all around us, I didn’t doubt it. “See you soon, Architect.”

I disappeared before he could comment to the contrary.

Not that he would. I intrigued him too much for him to dismiss me.

Oh, I had no doubt he’d try to kill me if he thought I was a threat. He’d fail, of course. But he’d definitely try.

He was protective of his circle. His family. His mate.

I understood. I felt the same way about my king and our future queen.

Which was why I approved of Ajax’s choice for the temporary relocation. Cami would be safe with the Midnight Fae. At least for now. And it would give me time to persuade Ty to work with her, not against her.

Something that would become increasingly important when he realized Ajax had mated Cami. He wouldn’t have felt it the way Az and I had.

But he’d find out soon enough.

Either from me or from Az.
