The snake vanished in the next breath, leaving a panting, angryAz on the couch. His black eyes gleamed as he glared at Ajax, the Phoenix clearly pissed at having been woken in such a manner.
“Well, at least I know your bird is definitely in charge.”
Az spit on the ground, the movement animalistic in nature despite being in human form.
“Oh, I disagree. That was hilarious,” Ajax drawled, clearly responding to Az. “But it’s time for you to get up anyway. Cami needs training and Shade keeps messaging me.”
I frowned.Shade’s been messaging you?
He’s been touching my ear with some sort of tickling spell,he replied.Or I assume it’s him, anyway. No one else knows how to be that annoying.
Az pushed off the couch, his tall form intimidating and drool-worthy as he stretched his arms over his head. He’d taken off his shirt, choosing to sleep in just a pair of black jeans, leaving his feet bare as well.
I didn’t want to be attracted to him. I wanted tohatehim.
But… it was kind of hard when he resembled sex. His dark hair was mussed, his face sleepy, his bodyperfect.
Ajax and I had been in the middle of playing when Az had arrived yesterday. We’d never had a chance to finish our time together. We’d been too caught up in everything that had happened since.
Keep looking at me like that and my Phoenix is going to want to engage in a different kind of training,Az said into my mind, his voice resembling a low purr.
Looking at you like what?
Like you want to eat me, little warrior.
I’m not looking at you like that.
You are,he replied as he bent to pick his shirt up off the ground. And given that my Phoenix mated you yesterday, he’s absolutely looking at you the same way. He seems pretty keen on breeding.
Breeding?I repeated.
But he didn’t elaborate. Instead, he focused on his shoes, then wandered over to steal a piece of pizza.
“Did I say you could eat?” Ajax asked.
Az grunted in reply and took a huge bite of the pizza slice.
Ajax narrowed his gaze.
Az ignored him, finishing the piece before I could blink.
Then he grabbed a second one and pointedly ate it in front of Ajax.
“I’m starting to think you’re in charge again, Az,” the Warden drawled. “Already reneging on our deal?”
I waited for a response, but all Az did was continue eating.
Did he reply to you mentally?I asked Ajax.
Yeah. He says his bird is hungry and if I didn’t want him to eat, he shouldn’t have put a pizza out on the table like an offering,Ajax muttered.
Do you believe him?I wondered.
No.He glanced at me.Do you?
I’m not sure what to believe anymore,I admitted.
Silence fell as Az devoured a third slice, then he stalked over to the small kitchen area adjoining our suite and opened the fridge. He pulled out a jug of juice a second later and started drinking directly from the carton. That seems animallike,I mused.
