Then he was a dick.
But an insightful dick.
Sort of.He was definitely trying to teach me something, but it felt an awful lot like he was preparing me to deal with Lucifer rather than defend myself against him.
Although, it seemeddealswere Lucifer’s battle of choice.
They also appeared to be his indulgence.
And they all centered around a key point: there was a price to pay for Lucifer’s power and “protection.”
I had no doubt there would be a similar price for me to pay to Melek at some point. Beyond tying our souls together, anyway.
His power still hummed along my skin, the sensation reminiscent of his fiery kiss. I could also see a golden sheen forming along my exposed arms, the sparkle glittering in the incoming moonlight.
A shower hadn’t removed the glitter.
If anything, the more time away from Melek, the brighter the residual dust shone along my skin.
I traced the spot on my hand where he’d kissed me a few weeks ago, the gold seeming to shine there like a residual print. It hadn’t been like that before, yet now it glowed like a claiming mark.
Similar to Az’s crescent bite.Only that wasn’t gold in color. It was just an indent in my wrist that was clearly never going to heal.
Damnable men.
Constantly marking me.
And leaving me aroused, I thought, my gaze narrowing as a vibration crept up my spine. Melek’s bite had left me warm.Too warm. And this electricity humming over my skin was beginning to tingle in a very sensual way.
Is that part of the bond? Or is that just Melek?
A groan sounded from the couch as Az stirred, his arms lifting over his head in a gorgeous display of muscle.
My mouth watered at the sight, my thighs clenching with renewed need.
Definitely a leftover gift from Melek,I thought, irritated.Or maybe even my dream…
Fortunately, we had training planned for today. I had no idea what it was, but I never did. Az was in charge.
Or rather, hisPhoenixwas leading the way.
Although, it seemed pretty clear that Az was feeding the beast ideas. Or perhaps they were working together.
While I craved the distraction, I was also exhausted.Partly due to orgasmic dreams with the Hell Fae King.Something I absolutely wasnotgoing to tell Az about.
Huffing, I grabbed a stack of the documents and stepped outside to enjoy the moonlight. I needed some fresh air.
Apparently, Az felt similarly.
Because he joined me outside, his dark eyes on the gardens below as Sir Silber popped into view with a tray of coffee mugs. His presence made me realize that I’d forgotten all about my breakfast in the other room.
But the scent of caffeine trumped my need to eat.
It also trumped my need to review these deals.
I set the papers off to the side while Az retrieved a cup—which he handed to me first. Then he grabbed the other for himself, his chin dipping in a polite nod toward the gargoyle.
“Thank you,” I said since Az couldn’t.
