My head fell into my hands as I groaned loud enough for the entire Midnight Fae Kingdom to hear.

“Melek?” Ajax guessed.

I didn’t bother to nod. Instead, I just muttered, “Obviously.”

Then I flopped over in the bed and screamed into the pillow.

Fucking male fae.

I hated them.

All. Of. Them.

CHAPTER10

CAMI

My throat ached,my screams more of a croak than an earsplitting sound.

Probably a sign that I need to stop throwing this tantrum and do something else,I thought, irritated with myself. But a part of me also felt relieved. I’d needed a chance to just let it all out. And fortunately, Ajax hadn’t tried to stop me.

Unfortunately, he was leaning against the wall just inside the bedroom, his arms folded over his chiseled chest as he observed me with his dark eyes. From here, I couldn’t see the rim of blue around those obsidian irises, which somehow lent him an even more sinister appeal.

“You brought me to the Midnight Fae Realm,” I said, my voice raspy. I grabbed the water from the nightstand and downed half of the contents before I added, “Why the hell would you do that? Lucifer is going to kill you.”Because of me.

Ajax merely shrugged. “It was the right thing to do. If he chooses to kill me for it, then he’ll only further prove to me that my reaction was the right one.” He stepped forward and held out a towel for me—one I hadn’t realized he had tucked into his hand against his chest until now.

Rather than thank him for it, I set my water down and grabbed the towel, then used the damp fabric against my face.

Only one glance down at the item told me what I already suspected… “It’s not coming off.”

“No, it’s not.”

I ground my teeth together. “Fucking Melek.”

“It seems to be… soaking in,” Ajax said, his hands sliding into the pockets of his jeans.

“Soaking in?”

“It’s disappearing, almost like lotion,” he offered.

“Of course it is,” I gritted out. “He probably just marked me with some sort of tracking spell.” Although, he obviously didn’t really need one since he’d already found me.

My face fell to my hands once more on a growl.

This was all so fucked up. Every minute of it. “I was just trying to help those fae,” I told Ajax, not caring at all if the change in subject jarred him. “But I had to use Lucifer’s power to do it.”

“I know. I saw what happened.”

“And so did he, but you see where that led,” I grumbled.

“I can’t begin to explain his reactions. Melek or Az would do a better job of that. I can only say that I disagree with what he did. And…” He shuffled his feet, the movement oddly boyish and very unlike the Hell Fae Warden that I knew. “And all I can do is apologize for my part in everything.”

My eyebrows shot up. “You’re apologizing, too?”

“Melek apologized?”

“Yes.”
