No, not just owning.
Giving, too.
He gave meeverythingin my dreams.
Then, unless Ajax interrupted like tonight, I woke up from an intensely powerful orgasm, feeling like I was going to die.
Being fucked to death might be a good way to go.
I shook my head to clear my sleep-crazed thoughts.Pull it together, Cami.
“Let’s just get tonight’s training over with,” I murmured as I hauled myself up, letting the sheets fall and pool around my hips.
I was growing weary of all this. Az’s training always seemed like a puzzle I couldn’t quite figure out until the end.
And even then, it wasn’t something I felt would be particularly useful against Lucifer. Either he was toying with me, or I wasn’t getting what he was trying to teach me.
But I was Az’s mate, meaning I could feel his genuine intentions. So Az was definitelytryingto teach me something. But all it did was leave me exhausted and confused.
Not to mention, my daytime escapades with Ajax left me without much sleep. While my body was satisfied, both of us seemed like we were chasing a high to avoid the inevitable.
We were living on borrowed time until the devil found us.
Or rather, when we found him on our terms. We had a deadline now that we knew when we would be seeing Lucifer again.
The Interrealm Fae Ball.
He would be outside of his realm—which was rare, apparently. He’d be weakened, without his normal guard, and vulnerable. We would have all sorts of fae around us.
Elemental Fae. Winter Fae. Fortune Fae. Paradox Fae. Midnight Fae, of course, being the hosts of the incredible event.
There would be Shifter Fae, too. I wondered if Az would meet any others like him, but it sounded like most of the Shifter Fae were things like wolves and, if I had heard correctly, peacocks.
Perhaps minus the peacocks, we would have a good number of powerful mixed fae of all the known breeds—and likely a few unknowns. If I’d learned anything from my experiences, it was that not all the fae kinds were fully accounted for. They were either lost to the annals of time or in hiding.
Which made the Interrealm Fae Ball important to “abominations,” and it seemed like something Lucifer should support.
But he liked to do things on his own terms, and this whole process was likely too democratic for him.
No threat of burning alive by Hellfire. No gnashing of teeth. No decrees.
Lucifer had an invitation, and under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t attend, probably because he knew it put him in a vulnerable position.
But this time, he would.
To come forme.
After two weeks of training, I had one week left to prepare myself for an encounter with the Hell Fae King.
Az promised he was preparing me for that moment, but he wouldn’t specify exactly what I was supposed to do when I met Lucifer.
His answers were always evasive.
Melek, however, kept bringing me deals.
Is there really no other way out?
Ajax held my hand and pressed a kiss to my palm. “I’ll grab us breakfast. Maybe an update on Florica’s shenanigans will cheer you up, too.”
