But why water? Why here?
And even if I was dreaming, that didn’t necessarily mean I wasn’t in danger.
As if to confirm my thought, a massive creature swam past, but it kept its distance as electricity began to hum across my being. It seemed to be coming from below me.
Another glance down revealed nothing of consequence, but I could feel the volts trickling over my body, causing the hairs along my arms to rise on end.
It reminded me of Lucifer’s source, the waves of power leaving familiar kisses along my bare skin.
Odd that I could feel that and nothing else.
Unless it’s really happening outside of this dream,I thought, my lips curling down.Is that possible? Or is this all some warped punishment?
With Lucifer, it was hard to tell. But it seemed like the solution was to absorb more of that magnetic energy. Because each tug felt empowering. Refreshing.Right.
I was starting to better understand Lucifer’s source. It was a wild, uncontrollable beast and a reflection of Lucifer’s heart.
Which wasn’t bad, I decided. Just cautious, passionate, and a bit unfettered.
Maybe that’s why his power likes me,I mused.Because I’m all of those things.
I didn’t take any shit, but I also believed in balance. Meanwhile, Lucifer seemed to believe in control—as evidenced by the portal he’d tried to dominate into submission.
Sometimes one had to go with the flow of energy in order to properly tame it. That was the lesson I’d learned all those years ago with the fire my father had started—the magic had wanted a partner, not a dictator.
I sighed, reveling in the kiss of energy against my being, the vitality making me feel that much more alive. I could almost ignore my surroundings, almost forget that none of this was realistic or natural.
Just float, float, float,I whispered, content.
Wait.
I glanced down.
Not float… sink.
That… hmm.
No, I want to float.
Yet my feet were anchored by the bubble, an invisible strand yanking me in the wrong direction. Almost as though I were being controlled by some indefinable force.
I don’t want to go that way,I told it.Let me up.
The vortex didn’t listen, my mother’s voice saying,Don’t fight it,a constant mantra in my mind.
Knowing Lucifer, the whole pointwasto fight it. To break through the facade. To find the real meaning of this… this… whatever the fuck it was.
A punishment. A dream. A trial.Death.
Who the hell knew, but I didn’t want to continue going with the flow. I wanted to break through the barrier, to fly, to be free of this bizarre hold.
I kicked my feet, my motions strengthened by the electricity flowing through my veins.
Everything around me rippled, the spiral faltering for just a moment.
More,I decided, tugging on the essence that gave me strength.I need to take in more.
I inhaled heavily, Ajax’s scent whirling around me as Lucifer’s source embraced my call.
