Chapter Three
SEXUAL TENSION
Anger only made him appear more attractive. He looked so sexy and it was hypnotic to watch. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from him. In fact, at that point, I would have rather had my eyes gouged out with a screwdriver than look anywhere else.
Clearing my throat, for no other reason than the sight of him had given me a lump there, made him look up again. He seemed to stare directly into my eyes. I felt my cheeks flush as I saw the full effect of how hot he was.
My reaction to him was like nothing I’d ever experienced, and he hadn’t even spoken to me. He oozed sex appeal in a rock star kind of way. I’d seen guys like him before, full of charm and seriously hot, and could only imagine his lap getting plenty of bottoms volunteering to sit on it.
Handsome in the extreme, the guy in front of me was the kind of man that women lost all self-control over. Previously, I would have given a man like him a wide berth, but in his case, I thought I could probably re-evaluate my boundaries.
Dropping backward, he lay flat on the grass and stretched out, splaying his hands high above his head. I fought the urge to get up from where I was sitting to cover his body with mine.
He still didn’t engage with me, and I began to feel uncomfortable sitting there watching him, especially when he’d stopped playing.
I was almost tempted to move away, but the sight of him lying there in his faded jeans that were hugging the contours of his muscular legs made it impossible for me to drag myself away. So I sat in silence instead, taking in the sight of him.
He was wearing a black Fender T-shirt which clung to his chest. It had ridden up as he stretched out, exposing his abdomen. It showed just enough flesh for me to see the bottom contours of his ab muscles and a lean muscular body.
There was also a hard ridge of V-shaped muscles disappearing into the hips of his low-rise waistband. As his arms rose, he laced his fingers and flexed his palms outwards. His movement flexed his hips upward as well. I could almost feel what he felt in his bones.
That stretch was one I did regularly, when I’d played a long set and my fingers were cramped after working over the neck of my guitar.
Movement of his hips flexing caught my eye and drew my attention down his front to his groin.
The tiny upward thrust he made was so sexy, and I felt a wet spot between my legs.
My eyes flicked up as he brought his arms forward and down the front of his body, and I followed them again until I realized I was now staring at the bulge in his pants where they had landed.
This was my second glance there, and I couldn’t miss the bulge at the fly of his jeans.
Staring, I wondered if his cock was comfortable in those ridiculously tight jeans. I was curious as to how he’d managed to tuck his package in there in the first place. Blushing like crazy again when I realized what I was thinking, I hoped he had no idea what made my cheeks stain red.
He leaned up onto his elbow on one side, and he seemed to have caught me watching him. Fuck! I smiled and realized that this could be mistaken for me smiling at what I’d been looking at. The situation was getting worse by the minute.
I peered up and shuddered at my thought processes about him, and his eyes met mine. He was looking at me as if he’d only just registered my presence, and it appeared he was checking me out.
His eyes raked up slowly from my feet to my face. When he was done, he raised an eyebrow at me, and gave me a lopsided grin. I thought then he knew what I’d been thinking, and I felt myself flush again.
“Hey,” he cooed. His voice sounded like soft velvet, chocolate, and fluffy clouds as it rolled off his tongue. A low, mellow tone, hinted at a little humor, and it turned me on.
Gorgeous lips curved slowly to reveal a wide, lazy, sensual smile and his amazing hazel eyes, which were currently greener than brown, sparkled mischievously at me.
I knew I was damned when I saw a faint little dimple in his left cheek. “Alfie,” he muttered, and swept his index finger up and down the length of him.
“Are you majoring in music?”
I nodded and blushed again. “Lily,” I replied and boldly pointed my finger at myself, but I didn’t feel it had the same effect on him as he’d had on me.
With his eyes squinting against the sun, Alfie looked at me and grinned. He kissed his fingers and threw them out there like he approved of me. “Well, hi, Lily. What a beautiful lady. Would you like to come over and sit by me?” He threw his hand out and moved it in front of him.
I knew I should’ve said no and made an excuse to move on, but instead, I smiled bashfully and moved closer, doing what he asked me.
“That sounded interesting, how’s it coming along?” I asked as I plopped myself down opposite him. He gestured for me to move alongside him, so I did.
My skin tingled and my breathing became shallow and rapid as I struggled to keep myself calm. I was aware that the pulse in my neck was throbbing faster than ever. I moved around, then leaned back against a tree.
His arm brushed mine unintentionally as he moved closer, and I felt my skin react with a rash of goose bumps. He looked at his arm where it had touched mine, then back to my face. “You’re not from these parts?” he asked, turning to face me.
“No, London,” I replied.
Smiling, he groaned softly, placing his hand over his chest and stroked it down to his belly. “Oh, your accent turns me on. You are going to have to be careful around me, Lily,” he teased, and winked unashamedly at me.
My mouth dropped open, and I blushed scarlet again. I wished he hadn’t said that because I knew how much he was affecting me already. “Are all the men this forward here?”
He grinned deviously at me, his one dimple showing. “Only when hot little chicks speak in an English accent to us.” I giggled and found myself flirting back.
“Well, you know, the hot American male voice has its moments for us too.” I blushed again, belying my confidence.
“Good to know.” He grinned, wiggling his brows at me. “You want to cut to the chase and go fuck me then?” His words shocked me. I was stunned, freaking out inside by his boldness, but I giggled and pretended not to care. He was too forward and too easy to flirt with.
I was desperate to change the subject as I felt pretty uncomfortable, and knew I was out of my depth. “Okay, enough of the chitchat, back to business.” I pointed at his notebook and tried to divert his attention. Alfie grinned again.
“Kinky business?” he teased and dug his elbow gently into my ribs. I rolled my eyes and laughed but blushed again.
I knew instantly, Alfie could cause me a lot of trouble. He was so charming and sexy. I resisted the impulse I had to lean in and kiss him. “Are you open to suggestions?” I asked, trying hard to take his mind anywhere but on me.
“Always, are you?” he asked playfully, as his twinkling eyes held my gaze. He grinned wickedly at me again in a challenge.
“I’m thinking about your song.” I pretended to be curt with him. “I have a line that I think could be a good fit with what you’re singing about.” There was hesitancy in my voice as I said it.
“Oh? Great. Well, give it up, then we can go somewhere quiet, and I can have some great sex with your perfect little body.”
Fighting my embarrassment, I was determined to hold his gaze as he continued, “There are a good few fantasies already forming. I might need to act those out with you!”
Blushing yet again, I struggled to appear nonchalant.
“What makes you think I’d sleep with you?” I asked him playfully.
“Sweetheart, you definitely wouldn’t sleep with me!” he stated. “Be exhausted, yes, sleep… nope. I’d keep you awake for hours fucking you senseless.” He smirked.
My heart stopped and stuttered, before it kicked back in at a much faster speed than it was beating before.
I was taken aback by his statement. I wanted to jump his bones to see if his actions were as true as his words made him sound.
For all his corny lines, I had never been as turned on as I was in that moment.
“Music is the sound of feelings, and she listened to what he felt.” He looked confused. I thought his mind had shifted as he looked kind of distracted at me.
“Huh?” he murmured, staring into space. He shook his head to look at me again.
“The song,” I stated, smiling.
Alfie continued to stare blankly at me. “The song?”
Refocusing, I felt as if I was being stripped bare by his eyes, and I became self-conscious of the attention he was giving me. I covered my chest awkwardly with my arm.
“It’s my suggestion for your song lyric. Music is the sound of feelings, and she listened to what he felt,” I repeated.
Alfie broke his gaze from me and looked around him. “Well, shit! Where did that come from?” He looked surprised.
“Anon,” I replied.
“A music quotation?” He seemed to be singing it to himself in his head and then his face broke into a wide grin. “Smart and sexy, very nice!” he flirted.
“Well the first part, ‘music is the sound of feelings’. I added the rest, but yup, a quotation.” I nodded and made a mock curtsey with my pants.
“How did you come up with that?” He asked, appearing impressed. I smiled slowly and bit my bottom lip.
What he didn’t know was that I had a tattoo that circled my upper thigh, in small script writing, that said just that. What I said aloud was, “Well, maybe if you’re persistent with your flirting you’ll find out one day.”
Alfie clapped his hands together in front of him. “Good enough for me.” He laughed, then rubbed them together. “Now you have me intrigued.” He scratched the slight stubble on his chin.
His eyes raked sensually over me again, and he drew in a sharp breath. “Okay, Lily, now about that sex you promised me…” He poked playfully at my belly and pulled me up onto my feet.
Before I knew it, he’d picked up both of our guitar cases, grabbed me by my wrist and dragged me down a grassy hill behind the campus buildings toward some long grass. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to seduce you or anything crazy… yet.” He cocked his head and smiled, making me shiver.
Shouting breathlessly for him to stop or at least slow down, my voice sounded shaky, and my feet were hitting the uneven ground hard. He pulled me along faster than my legs wanted to go.
“So, what are you doing then?”
He shrugged, twisted his lips at me, and said, “I just wanted somewhere I could have you to myself to talk. I don’t want to be interrupted.”
When we stopped, he flopped down on the ground, flat on his back again, but this time he bent his knees so that they were raised in the air with his black cowboy boots flat on the ground.
Labored breathing caused his chest to rapidly rise and fall from the exertion of running. I was excited at his impulsiveness, but kind of disappointed when he had made no move on me. He just gave me this adorable lop-sided smile and panted breathlessly up at me from his position on the grass.
Playfully, I teased him, and raised my brow. “No long grass lovemaking then?” Instantly, he lifted his hand to block the sun from his eyes and looked at me.
Pursing his lips in thought, he nodded. “Some men do that I’ve heard, but I won’t make love to you, Lily. I will thoroughly fuck you though. With your permission, of course, and maybe we’ll get a little kinky.” He wiggled his brows at me and gave me that panty-melting smile again.
“I don’t do that slow, tender shit, Lily.
It’s overrated. Besides, I have other charms that will make sure you are well taken care of and sexually satisfied.
By the way, has anyone ever told you how gorgeous you are?
I’m fighting a losing battle here, but I’ll try hard to keep my hands to myself… for now.”
I’d never known anyone to speak to me that way before. I fought hard not to allow any outward reaction from me that would let him see the effect he was able to have on me.
Ignoring the last comment, I preferred to continue to flirt with him. “Damn, Alfie, you really know how to make a girl feel special, don’t you?” Giggling light-heartedly, I hoped I sounded convincing.
Alfie stopped smiling and gave me an intense stare, before he sucked in a deep breath again, then said animatedly, “You want to feel special? Then I guess I’m not your man… but, if you want to have special feelings, then I can most certainly do this for you. ‘Friends with benefits', if you will.”
I was mortified at his suggestion and fought to hide my true feelings again. Keeping my face controlled and my breathing calm as my out-of-control heart thumped faster wasn’t easy.
Uncertain if my reaction was because the idea excited me or horrified me, I locked eyes into a staring contest with his. I asked directly, “Are you interviewing me for the position of ‘fuck buddy’?”
Alfie’s face broke into the most heartbreakingly handsome smile. “Ah, you are so smart, I love it. Intelligence, as well as beauty, the only thing left now is for me to be inside you to determine whether or not I’ve hit the jackpot.” Grinning, he raised his eyebrow at me.
My jaw wanted to drop, but I didn’t let it out of principle. My first thought was that I should turn and run right back up the hill and never look back. I couldn’t though. I wasn’t ready to walk away yet. I was far too intrigued by him.
The silence between us was deafening. He sighed, stood up, and stroked my hair.
“I’m twenty-four years old, Lily, music is the only love I have room for.
I don’t do romance, and I’m not a hearts-and-flowers kind of guy.
I’m a highly sexed young man, and I do just fine for offers.
” He shrugged. “I’m not saying this because I’m an arrogant bastard, and I don’t usually proposition women—they come on to me. ”
Alfie sighed again and shrugged slowly. “It’s just how it is.” I didn’t doubt what he had said for a minute.
“Well, I have to admire your honesty, it’s refreshing,” I heard myself tell him and schooled my face to hide my shock. WTF, Lily?
Swallowing audibly, he said in a low, husky voice, “I just feel a connection between us.” He motioned his finger between us. “An acute sexual tension if you will. It could make for some amazing sex between us. I think we have great chemistry. I felt it even before I looked at you.”
I wanted to call bullshit on that, and I sniggered. “Wow, I’ve heard some pickup lines in my time, Alfie. You know just how to seduce a woman, huh?” I replied in a sarcastic tone, hoping he hadn’t seen just how na?ve I was.
