Page 48 of Beautiful Trauma (The Irish Rogues #5)
W hen I told Mila I was going to drive us to the farm, I’m sure she thought it was in one of our family SUVs. That’s why when she came outside and saw the flaming red sports car, she did a double take.
“What is that?” she demanded.
“My car.”
“Since when?”
I laughed. “Since two years ago.”
“Do you ever drive it?”
“When I’m going to the farm.”
“What about bodyguards?”
“They’ll be following us.”
She nodded as she walked to the car. After walking around it, she cocked her brows at me. “Can I drive?”
Snorting, I replied, “Maybe when we get to the farm.”
“Do you not trust me on the open road?”
“I do.”
“Then let me drive.”
I wanted to argue that on our way out of the city, we could be in danger and would need someone familiar with handling the car. But considering the excitement flashing in her eyes, I couldn’t tell her no.
When I tossed the key fob at her, she caught it. “Seriously?”
I nodded. “She’s all yours.”
With a squeal, Mila ran to the driver’s side. After opening the door, she slipped onto the seat. “Oh my God, this leather is to die for.”
Shaking my head, I went around to get in the passenger side. Everything we needed was packed into the SUV the bodyguards would be driving. After plugging in the address in the GPS, I said, “Let’s go.”
After cranking up, Mila gunned the engine. “Now this is a sweet ride.”
She slid the gear into drive, and we roared out of the driveway. “Do I need to remind you that there are speed limits around here?” I teased.
“Who could abide by speed limits in this car?
“We could.”
“But you have cops and judges in your pockets.”
“That doesn’t mean we need to flaunt it.”
“Fine. I’ll ease up until we’re out of the city.”
True to her word, Mila obeyed the speed limits until we got on the interstate. I had to give her credit that she was good at maneuvering the car. “Do you have a lot of experience driving sports cars?”
She laughed. “When Dima turned sixteen, he used to steal some of Father’s cars to go joy riding. He would take me from time to time. I ended up learning to drive on some ridiculously expensive cars.”
“Dima sounds like Callum and Dare. They were always doing shit like stealing our Da’s cars. “
Whatever happiness Mila had been experiencing was dampened with the mention of Dima. “Do you want to talk about it?”
She sighed. “What’s there to say that hasn’t been said?”
“How you’re feeling.”
With a scowl, Mila replied, “I’m so tired of people asking me that.”
“It’s only because we care.”
An apologetic look came over her face. “I know. It’s just I’m tired of having to worry people.” She tore her gaze from the road. “Especially you.”
“I love you, Mila. I can’t help but worry about you.”
“You deserve better.”
“No that bullshit again,” I gritted out.
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. The idea that you’re not good enough for me because of your trauma? Yeah, it’s bullshit. I don’t know what I need to do to get it through your head that it is.”
“It’s not bullshit to me,” she said softly.
“Mila, there’s no one else for me but you.”
“What about Brooke?”
“What?”
She gripped the steering wheel tighter. “You two are obviously close. She could give you what I can’t–a girlfriend without trauma.”
“You’re joking, right?”
Mila shook her head. “She could be better for you.”
“Once again, that’s bullshit. You wanna know why? Because like us, Brooke has her own trauma. Her parents were killed in a car accident, and then the same year, she got knocked up by her boyfriend who ditched her.”
“Oh,” she murmured.
“We bonded over our shared trauma. But in the end, that’s all there was between us.”
Mila glanced at me again. “What if that’s all there is between us?”
“It’s not.”
“But how do you know?”
“Because I’ve never felt for another woman what I felt for you.”
Her chest rose and fell in harsh pants. “I need to pull over.”
“Okay.”
After pulling off on the side of the road, Mila buried her head in her hands. “I’m sorry, Kellan. I’m so, so sorry.”
I reached over to rub her cheek. “Stop apologizing.”
“I’m just a mess. A complete and total mess.”
“And I still love you.”
“I don’t know why.”
“You will in time. When all the mess swirling in your head starts to go away, you’ll see. Right now you’re in too much emotional pain. But there will come a time when it will all fall into place. Like it did for me.”
“So, I’ll be that person again?”
“Yeah, you will. Except you’ll be an even stronger version of her.”
A faint smile pulled on Mila’s lips. “I’ll have you to thank for that strength.”
“That’s all on you.”
She shook her head. “No. I might’ve been able to save myself before, but I need someone now. I need you.”
I reached forward to kiss her. “Come on. Let’s get to the farm, Speedy.”
Mila laughed. “Okay.”
It didn’t take us long to make it, especially with Mila’s lead foot. When we pulled into the winding driveway, Mila leaned forward in the seat, taking in everything out the windshield.
As the house came into view, she gasped. “It’s just like I imagined it would be. Like an English cottage.”
“It needs a lot of work.”
She shook her head. “It’s beautiful.”
“Thanks.”
As soon as Mila put the car into park, she hopped out. She headed straight for the house. Instead of giving her a tour, I just let her look around. Once she was done with the house, she asked, “Where are the horses?”
I laughed. “The barn is just over there.”
She held out her hand for me. Once I took hers in mine, we made our way to the barn. “I can see why you enjoy coming out here.”
“Really?”
“It’s so peaceful and serene.”
“I’m glad you like it. So far none of my brothers are fans. They prefer the city or the beach.”
“I can’t imagine why. There is so much here to do. Hiking and horseback riding. You could even plant a garden.”
“I would love to do all those things with you.”
She smiled. “Then we’ll do it.”
As we stepped inside the barn, my three horses popped their heads out of their stalls. “Who takes care of them when you’re not here?”
“I have a caretaker at the moment. He lives in the carriage house.”
“Is he Irish mafia too?”
I laughed. “Yes, he has ties to our family. I mean, I could hardly have a stranger here in case I needed to bury some bodies.”
“Very funny.”
At the brown mare, I said, “This is Epona.”
Mila petted Epona’s mane. “Hello, beautiful,” she murmured.
“And this Eira.” The snow white horse lived up to her Irish name, which meant snow.”
Mila gave Eira a scratch and a pet on her mane.
“Finally, we have Lightning.”
“Ah, the lone male on the scene.”
“Yes, I’m hoping he can enjoy a threesome with the gals and produce some babies.”
Mila laughed. “I’m sure they’ll produce some gorgeous horses.”
“I hope the old boy has it in him.”
“It’s all extinct for them, so I’m sure it’ll kick in.”
“Mr. Kavanaugh?” a voice called.
“That would be my caretaker.”
“You go talk to him. I’m going to head back to the house and snoop around.”
“Go for it,” I replied with a grin.
As she started for the house, I went to the back of the barn where Jamey, the caretaker was. “It’s good to see you,” he said.
“It’s good to be here.”
“I was just about to saddle Lightning up to get some exercise. Would you like to take him?”
Although the voice of reason in my head told me absolutely not, I said, “I would love to.”
When I trotted up to the porch, Mila rose out of her rocking chair. Her expression darkened as she came walking up to me. “I know you’re not seriously on a horse right now.”
“The doctor didn’t say anything about riding,” I argued.
“I’m pretty sure he didn’t think he would have to. He trusted you would be smart enough not to do something so reckless.”
“I’d argue that riding with you was just as reckless.”
“Ass,” she muttered.
With a grin, I said, “For your information, I didn’t pull myself up into the saddle.”
“Don’t tell me you levitated to get up there?”
I laughed. “No, I climbed up on the fence.”
Rolling her eyes, Mila replied, “Of course you did.”
“It was better than straining to pull myself up.”
“I’m sure that will make so much difference to your healing body.”
“While I appreciate your concern, I’ll deal with the repercussions."
“You’re impossible.”
With a wave of a hand, I said, “Come with me.”
“Oh no. Don’t drag me into this.”
“We won’t go far.”
Crossing her arms over her chest, Mila countered, “Kellan, you’re supposed to be recuperating. If I get on that horse with you, I’m knowingly aiding you in hurting yourself.”
With a wink, I said, “Some things are worth the pain.”
Mila stared at me for a moment before flicking her gaze to Lightning. “Does he spook easily?”
“No. He’s ridiculously calm.”
Throwing up her hands in defeat, Mila muttered, “Fine.” When I held out my hand to help pull her up, she replied, “Hell no.”
“The fence?” I suggested.
She nodded before breaking into a jog. Lightning and I followed behind her. After climbing up on the fence, Mila waited for me to ease Lightning up to where she could climb on.
Instead of climbing in behind me, she sat in front of me. I then flicked the reins, and we were off. “This is so beautiful,” she mused.
“The view from back here is just as nice.”
She threw a glance at me over her shoulder. “How is the back of my head as nice as all these trees and flowers?”
“Because it’s your gorgeous body before me–the body that houses that wonderful heart of yours.”
“There you go saying perfect things again,” she mused.
“Why don’t I do something bad to counteract it?”
“Like what?”
“Like kissing.”
“I like your way of thinking.”
Mila turned her head to where I could kiss her. When her lips pressed against mine, I groaned into her mouth. Her tongue immediately thrust against my lips. When I slid mine against hers, they tangled in a frenzy.
After untucking her shirt from her jeans, my hand slid over her ribcage to cup her breast. “Oh yes,” Mila cried.
I squeezed and palmed the heavy globe before my hand then delved inside her bra to pinch her hardened nipple. “Mm, more,” Mila pleaded before pushing her hips back against my erection.
My free hand came to the waistband of her jeans. After unbuttoning and unzipping them, I thrust my hand inside. When my fingers brushed her clit, Mila’s head fell back against my shoulder.
As I began rubbing her, my cock grew achingly hard in my pants. I slid my hand further down to where I could thrust two fingers inside her. With each sway of Lightning’s hips, I pumped into Mila’s slick, tight walls.
At Mila’s squeal of pleasure, Lightning faltered. “We have to get off,” I groaned into her ear.
“Yes, get me off,” Mila panted.
“No. We’re spooking the horse.”
“Oh. Right.”
I pulled my hand from her pants before steering us over to a lush thicket. I swung my leg over Lightning’s side and slid down to the ground. From the jolt of pain, I knew I would be paying for my exertions tomorrow. But at the moment, I didn’t give a fuck. All I cared about was fucking Mila.
Taking her hand, I helped her off the horse. In a tangle of arms and legs, we managed to get to a large oak. After jerking Mila’s jeans down her thighs, I spun her around. As she placed her hands on the tree trunk, I undid my button and slid down my zipper.
After shoving my pants over my ass and down my thighs, I took my throbbing cock in my hands. Since I knew Mila was soaked, I lined my cock up against her entrance. “How do you want it?” I breathed against her neck.
“Hard,” she replied.
I smacked her ass cheek before thrusting inside her. Our collective moan echoed through the tree line. Gripping Mila’s hips, I began to pound in and out of her. With each of my thrusts, she pushed her hips back. My balls slapped against her ass as I drove myself hard and fast into her wet pussy.
“Yes, Kellan, yes!” Mila cried as she came. Her walls clamped down on my dick, causing me to groan.
I kept driving into her, sweat breaking out along my forehead. I began slapping her ass with every thrust, which caused Mila to moan. After another orgasm charged through Mila, I came with a shout, collapsing onto her back.
When I could once again process thoughts, I pulled myself back up. “I think we should christen every inch of my land.”
“I think that’s a great idea.”
As I was tucking my cock back in my pants, Mila mused, “I think we’re walking back,” Mila mused.
“Yeah, there’s no way I’m getting back in the saddle after that.”
She grinned before pointing to where Lightning no longer stood. “I think we really spooked him.”
I grunted. “He should’ve stuck around for some pointers.”
Mila laughed before smacking my arm. “I think I’m glad we didn’t have a horse creeping on us.”
“That’s true.”
As we started back to the house, Mila stared over at me with a smile. “Thanks for today.”
“I think I’m the one who should thanking you.”
She shook her head. “I mean for taking me here. I already feel better.”
I returned her smile. “Anytime, my love.”
