I stroke the tops of his arms. “Do you want to stop?”

He shakes his head slowly. “No. I’m okay.” He stares into my eyes. “Kiss me?”

I oblige, kissing him more softly than before until I feel him relax against me. Then I deepen the kiss and go back to lazily tasting and exploring his mouth and tongue. My heart thuds in time with his. I’ve kissed many other men, but I’ve never felt so connected. I’ve never felt sparks zipping between lips until now. I run my fingers through his hair and stroke his back. He presses his palms against my shoulder blades and hugs me to him. The thin fabric of our underwear does very little to mask the shape and feel of our cocks as they brush.

I pull back and stroke his cheek. “Do you think—?”

He raises his eyebrows. “What?”

“That you would be okay if I went down on you?”

His eyes widen, and he stiffens again. His chest isn’t moving. “Here? Now?”

“We’re alone.”

Callan lets go of me to grip the edge of the worktop.

“Too soon?” I curse myself for pushing him.

“Give me a sec.”

I fall still and silent. All I can do is watch him. His brow furrows, and a deep slash forms between his eyebrows. I wish I knew what he was thinking. Perhaps if he voiced his thoughts, I could help ally his fears.

He sucks in a breath. “I—” He looks past me and then turns away.

I step back and look over my shoulder. Hendrix is standing in the doorway with Aidan, who is mewling grumpily.

“Sorry if I interrupted. Is the bottle almost ready?”

Callan picks up the bottle and shakes the milk over his forearm. “It’s ready. Thanks for looking after Aidan.”

“He’s no trouble.” Hendrix beams. “Could I feed him?”

“Of course.”

I watch as Hendrix sits at the table, and Callan shows him how to hold Aidan and the bottle. The baby gulps at the milk greedily. My heart goes soft and gooey at the way Callan stares at his son. When the milk is gone, Callan teaches Hendrix how to wind Aidan.

“I should take him back to bed,” Callan says. “Thanks for your help, Hendrix.”

“It was no biggie. Let me know if you need a babysitter so you two can have alone time.” He carefully hands Aidan back to Callan. “Night, lover boys. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t.” He finger-waves and then skips out of the room.

“Just when I thought he was acting mature,” I mutter.

“I like him. He’s a breath of fresh air and good with Aidan.”

“Surprisingly good.”

I follow Callan upstairs, intending to go up another flight to my room.

He touches my arm as I walk past him, stopping me. “Do you want to join me?”

“In bed?”

He nods. “I’ll need to settle Aidan first, and I’ll probably just want to sleep, but—”

“I’d like to fall asleep with you.”

Callan smiles. “Me too.”
