Symphony had never seenTiegan raise his voice toanyonelike that. It frightened and confused her. His eyes were flashing with anger and his fingers were balled into fists, but her neural connector kept snapping with sorrow.
Tiegan wasn’t really angry.
Underneath it all… his heart was breaking.
“Very well.” Daz’s voice trembled, but his jaw was set.Stubborn alien. In that regard, he was just like Tiegan. “I will take my leave.” Daz nodded at her. “You must keep him calm.”
“Do not speak to her,” Tiegan said stiffly.
She arched both eyebrows in his direction.
Daz let out a shaky breath. With a wordless nod, he strode past them and headed outside.
Tiegan wilted as if all the energy had left his body in one rush. She grabbed him, careful to set her arms around him in a way that didn’t hurt his wound.
Ridged blue skin looked like a tire patch on his side. He was still weak. Finding out his father was still alive and doing well must have been a huge blow. Arguing with this newly-found father must have taken what was left of his energy.
“You need to lie down,” she murmured, grimacing because he weighed as much as a truck and she couldn’t manage to carry him.
“I will make it on my own,” Tiegan said weakly. Even as he spoke, he dropped his head into the crook of her neck. She felt his eyelashes fluttering as he struggled to remain conscious.
“Come on. You need to help me or we’ll both collapse on the ground. And that can’t be good for your wound.”
“I… can do it,” he said breathlessly.
“Yeah, yeah. Stubborn alien,” she grumbled under her breath. “Couldn’t you have fought with your fatherafterhe helped you to your room?”
His head shot up and he pressed his palm against the wall. “He isnotmy father.”
“I know, I know.” She calmed him. “He’s just the guy who shares your same genetic DNA and brought you into this world. So… your alien sperm donor.”
Tiegan’s lips twitched. “I do not understand most of those words, but you… you seem mischievous. Are you trying to make me laugh?”
“I am trying,” she grunted, “to get you to bed.”
He sighed longingly. “If only those words meant what I wished they did.”
She froze. “Are you really thinking about mating me in a condition like this? With everything that’s going on?”
“Chaos will always be present in this world. Which is why we must cherish those we have mated.”
“Yes,cherish. That word includes a lot more than getting naked with each other. We have more pressing matters right now.” Her mind flew to the captured Plutonian warrior. “A lot more.”
She finally got Tiegan through the door of the nearest cavern. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the bedding.
“We’re almost there.”
“I would much rather continue holding you like this,” Tiegan said.
“I’m really glad you’re talking nonsense. It means you’re not that upset about finding out you have a father.”
He groaned. “I was trying to forget.”’
“Don’t use my body as a distraction.”
“But it is the best one.”
“Tiegan.” She gave him a warning look as she helped him sit on the edge of the bed.
