“And you are my mate, even if I haven’t taken you yet. Be sure not to go around yelling that we have not experienced a coupling.”
She raised her arm to swat at him.
He danced back, smirking.
“This is strange,” Rune said.
“What is?” Tiegan asked, shifting on a dime from playful to absolutely ferocious. “Have you found a problem in Sim-pony’s tests?”
“Neh.” Rune’s eyebrow nubs pulled tight. “She is completely fine. Better than fine. The arm is almost fully fused with the rest of her body.”
“What does that mean?”
“Your arm has grafted to your body via the nano-bots. It needs time to fuse completely so that it does not fall off. This is happening much faster than I or the Healer had calculated.”
“I don’t get it. It doesn’t feel any different.” She swung her arm around, rotating her shoulder. “Are you sure your test is right? Is it healing that fast?”
“I am sure.” He arched an eyebrow. “What were the symptoms of the glitching?”
Tiegan gave her a pointed look.
Symphony licked her lips. “I just kept… reaching for things. You know. Normal things. Non-Tiegan related things.”
“Sounds legit!” Adhi hollered from where she was floating.
“This is not your conversation!” Symphony hollered back.
The other woman stuck out her tongue.
“I see.” Rune chuckled. Rising to his feet, he nodded at Tiegan. “This human is almost completely recovered. There should not be any more glitching, but if there is, bring her to me the moment it happens so I can investigate.”
“That moment may be a private one,” Tiegan mumbled.
Symphony swatted his chest.
His face so indifferent, one never would have guessed he just cracked a joke, Tiegan dipped his head. “Thank you, Rune. Sim-pony and I will be off now.”
“Where are you going?” Rune asked, setting the needle away.
Tiegan caught her eye. “To train in the zapten.”
Twenty-Four
Tiegan
Tiegan tookRune aside while Sim-pony chatted with Adhi. His future mate had her head tipped back in order to make eye-contact with the other female. The smiles they exchanged seemed excited and celebratory.Sim-pony must be informing her that we will train in the zapten.
Rune folded his arms over his chest. The move brought Tiegan’s eyes to the nakedness of his upper bicep. Rune did not wear a band that would identify his tribas because he did not belong to one. Given that Rune felt such a burden for the next generation of human and Plutonian broods, Tiegan assumed he would never seek out a camp.
“I am trusting that you have not found anything wrong, Rune.”
“I haven’t.”
“Yet you seem hesitant.”
Laughter rang out. Adhi was doing tricks within the energy blasts. She was pushing down against it and allowing it to bounce her back up in a comical fashion. It seemed Sim-pony was very amused.
“There is something strange about her numbers,” Rune mumbled, shaking his head at the holo before him. “It’s almost too perfect.”
