Story: Liberate Us
“Do you mind?” Zillah asked, stepping up to Amber and noddingtoward her stomach.
Amber shook her head, grabbed her hands, and placed them on herstomach. “I’m almost five months but I feel like I look as big as a whale.”
The women laughed.
“You’re beautiful,” I told her, interrupting their moment.
The women looked my way.
Eve glanced at Zillah and Sara before meeting my eyes.
“What?” I asked as Jaron and Cyrus came up on either side of me.
“They’re not used to you having a woman here,” Jaron said.“Especially a pregnant one.”
I rolled my eyes. “She’s not a unicorn. She’s always existed. Itjust took me a while to find her.”
Amber’s eyes shone.
“You know, I’m not an overly romantic woman but…” Zillah sighed.
We laughed.
While the ladies fussed over baby shower plans, Amber quietlyslid away from them and came up to me.
“Thank you for this.” She placed her hands on my chest, slidingthem down to my stomach before they stopped at my hips. “I’ve never had this. Ihave my mom, Shawnee, and the other girls but I’ve never had this with…”
My heart jumped. “You never had this with Aaron’s side of thefamily.”
She shook her head. “I wanted to, but he always made excuses. So, thank you for giving this to me.”
I wanted to give her the whole fucking world but that would haveto wait. Until then, we needed to figure out what the hell was going on withWill and get him to leave Amber the fuck alone.
Before I could even suggest that she go back to bed and get somerest, we were surrounded by my club brothers. They shifted from foot to foot, their bodies tense. An unnerving feeling was thick in the air as we waited forthem to speak.
“Everything okay?” Amber asked, pulling her arms from around mymiddle but remaining close.
Thank fuck for that because I wasn’t sure how I would getthrough this if she weren’t around.

Iwasn’t sure what was going on, but I noticed how the women I had just met weresuddenly no longer around. I also noticed how the guys zeroed in on us. If itwasn’t for Sammy, I would have been nervous. This chapter was much better thanthe one Aaron had been a part of. Even though they were part of the samemotorcycle club, I found the crew that Sammy was with, were nicer. They tookcare of their own. But I knew at the same time that if something happened toone of theirs, they would do whatever they could to avenge their family.
“What’s going on?” Sammy asked, taking the question right out ofmy head. He linked his fingers with mine, pulling me even closer, but I knewthat no matter how close we were to each other, it would never be enough.
“We have more news,” Jaron said, his dark eyes flicking my way.His strong jaw was clenched tightly, and I took that as a sign. He wanted me toleave.
“Tell us,” Sammy demanded, tightening his hold on my hand.
“You know the rules, Sam,” Cyrus said gently. I realized thenthat he was the calm one, always keeping things in check and making sure no oneripped others’ heads off.
“This is different when it involves Amber’s late husband’sbrother,” Sammy growled.
“Listen.” I pulled my hand from Sam’s and moved between them. “Iknow that you guys don’t know me, and I also know that you are good men. Whathappened last night...” I shook my head. “I’m sorry for your losses. All ofyours.”
“We’re sorry for yours too,” Jaron said, the hard lines on hisface, softening.
