Story: Liberate Us
I nodded.
“Cheesy and Locke.” He shook his head.
“Fuck.” My chest ached, my stomach filling with dread that I hadput them in the line of fire. “I’ll call their parents. When all of this isdone, it’ll be me who tells them.”
Jaron nodded. “Tiny and his crew are here. We were fuckingambushed.”
He continued talking but I couldn’t focus.
The only thing I could see was Amber walking away with Will.
Amber
“Will, please.” I triedpulling my wrist fromhis rough grip, but his hold was too strong for me. “Just let me get my mom andwe can leave. I’ll never bother you again.”
Once weentered the building, my heart started racing that I was now in an enclosedspace with Will.
“Please,” Ibegged again, hating how desperate I sounded but I couldn’t help it. I neededto get my mom, whether she was dead or alive, and get out of there.
When I wasalone with Will and the man I had come to learn as Price Davies, the corruptmayor who had suddenly disappeared, I couldn’t help but notice how big theinside of the building actually was. It looked like your typical abandonedwarehouse. There were tables with computers on them. Some even had weapons andothers had sheets over them, hiding whatever secrets lay beneath the fabric.
“This couldhave been different.” Will’s voice pulled my attention back to him. “If onlyyou would have been mine.”
“I didn’tknow.” We had this conversation years ago. It had been the night before mywedding. Will confessed his love for me and it made me uncomfortable. I toldhim I was sorry but that I was marrying his brother. I thought we could havebeen friends, but he ended up disappearing for a while. He never even showed upto the wedding and Aaron was pissed. At me. Like it was my fault that I madeWill fall in love with me in the first place.
“You didknow,” Will insisted, tightening his grip on my wrist. “You had to have known. How could you not?”
“I lovedyour brother. Will, I’m sorry. I swear that I’m sorry, but you never told mehow you felt until the night before my wedding. I—” I was suddenly slammed upagainst the nearest wall. The impact had been so hard, my head rang.
“Ishouldn’t have had to tell you, Princess,” he murmured, his lips brushing alongthe shell of my ear. “You should have known. Especially when I took care of youafter he died. I saw you in the hospital too. Did you know that? But Shawneeand your mom were always there. I could never visit you alone. You looked sohelpless. So vulnerable. So innocent. Which we both know that you’re not.” Hiswords implied something that wasn’t true.
“I woke upand I didn’t remember what happened,” I told him. “It took me a bit but yes, you’re right. You did take care of me, but I never hinted for more.”
“No.” Willbrought my wrist up to his mouth. “You just wanted to fuck and that was it.” Hebit down, the sharp slice of pain forcing tears to my eyes. “Do you rememberhow I held you while you cried over Aaron being dead? Do you remember how Iconsoled you because you lost the baby?”
My eyeswidened. “How did you know that I was pregnant?” I hadn’t told anyone exceptfor Aaron. Even when I thought the baby could have been Will’s, we never toldhim.
Willchuckled. “Just because Aaron and I hardly got along, didn’t mean he never toldme shit.”
“He didn’tannounce it until that party. You weren’t there. Did he call you? Text you?” Ishoved against him. “Tell me.”
“I hate tointerrupt this little reunion,” Price said, coming toward us. “But we’re goingto have company rather quickly.”
Before Icould ask any more questions, Will pulled me away from the wall and continueddragging me along with him.
“Will, please.” I had to run to keep up with his quick stride but the farther we gotfrom the front entrance, the higher my anxiety rose.
Willsuddenly stopped at a door. The movement had been quick, so I ended up bumpinginto him. He looked down at me, something flashing behind his dark eyes. “Iloved you once. Maybe I still do. But now that you’re carrying babies that aren’tmine, it no longer matters.”
“Youwouldn’t hurt them.” But even though I said those words, I wasn’t overly sure.
“Iwouldn’t?” He tilted his head. “You don’t know me anymore. Maybe you neverhave.”
“Oh this isa fun story,” Price said from behind me.
“Aaron wasgloating how he got you pregnant. Saying that all the times we had a threesome, his boys were stronger than mine.” His brows narrowed. “He was trying to makeme feel like less of a man because of the shit he was saying.”
“Will.” Itook a breath, knowing that what I was about to tell him could either work tomy advantage or make things worse. “The baby could have been yours.”
“Cheesy and Locke.” He shook his head.
