Story: Ill Will

“Emma and I could kill each other.”
“But it’s been a while since I was here long enough to ruin your life with cards,” Emma said. “Please?”
“You’re not gonna ruin my life. I’m gonna ruinyours.”
We got out the cards and quickly realized that Emma and I weren’t the problem. Levi was. After a few rounds, he hit Emma with a plus-four and she looked him in the eye and threatened to kill him. I then earned my own threats by stacking two draw-two cards that they’d thrown my way.
Levi followed that up with skipping me two times in a row.
“Getfucked,”I said to him.
“Those are the words a husband always wants to hear from his wife,” he said, and then put down another skip.
“Levi!”
“It’s beautiful,” Emma said. “You deserved that.”
I glared as I put down a reverse card.
She then hit me with a plus-four.
“Emma!” I snapped. “How could you do this to me?”
“With no guilt or remorse.”
The game continued on, up until I finally got Uno and dropped my last card.
“You all suck! I win!”
“I could have made you lose that game,” Levi said. “But I didn’t because I was nice.”
“Thank you, but also, I won and will still rub it in your face.”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“If I hadn’t had the day from hell,” Emma said with a yawn, “I’d ask for a rematch. But I need some fucking sleep.”
“Cars blowing up will do that to you. It’s almost like you need somethingreliable.”
“Don’t,” she hissed before getting up. “Once I get eight hours of sleep, it’soverfor you.” She made a cut motion across her throat as she headed to the guest room.
“I’ll never hear the end of it if she does win,” I said. “We’ll have to team up. Just like we will for other things.”
Levi raised an eyebrow. “Did you mean for that to sound sexual?”
My cheeks immediately lit on fire. “N-no! I meant about something else.”
“So you want sex to stay off the table?” he asked.
“I’m not saying that! I’m saying I haven’t thought about it. Well, I have but?—”
His eyebrows raised higher.
“I’m gonna stop talking before I embarrass myself more.”
“I think we should take your sister’s advice and get some rest. We can talk about anything in the morning.”
“Fine,” I said. “Maybe I’m a little tired too.”
