“You know leaving Houston was the best thing for you, baby,” my voice trembles.
“Baby?”
“Carla…”
“You never fucking loved me, Sage.”
“Maybe, I didn’t. But I do care about you.”
This time Carla pauses.
“So, a man, huh? Is he fucking you the way you fucked me, Sage. Huh? Is he pushing up inside of you the way that you pushed inside of me? Are you finally on the receiving end of a dick?”
“Is this really fucking important to know?”
It feels like someone picked up a glass of ice water and doused me. My fingers run through my still puffy hair. Carla’s is in pain and I try to remind myself that I never tried to fracture her leg. I tried to fucking save her from a nightmare.
“It so fucking is,” she says.
“Then…yes. I’m on the receiving end.”
“Is it good, Sage?”
I stand and stomp my feet. I need to end this conversation. Carla has baited me into a fucking argument and now I’m in a bad mood.
Fuck.
“It’s so fucking good, Carla. He fucks me like he’s never had pussy before. And that’s another thing, he eats my pussy like he’s thirsty and I’m the last drop of water on earth. Is that what you wanted to hear?”
She laughs on the other end and then the phone call ends.
I stare at the device for a few moments realizing she hung up. I could kick myself for evening answering the fucking call to begin with.
Going back inside, I toss the phone onto the couch and go in search of the suitcases. I want to shower and straighten my hair some before Niki gets back.
By the time I’ve decided to give up on my hair and blow dry it into a bun, the smell of food being cooked hits my nose. We didn’t stop for breakfast so I know this is about to be delicious.
As I emerge from the bathroom, and come out of the master bedroom, I find Niki humming to some seventies soul music. Marvin Gaye croons to me and I find myself admiring the view.
“What are you fixing?” Coming up beside him, I see he’s got some veggies in a pan already.
“Something good.”
“So exactly, what are we going to do with seven beach houses by the way?”
Niki offers a smirk, and there a flash of green as he looks over at me. The way his mouth curves sends chills down my back. “Make money for generations to come.”
“I’ve never thought about having kids,” he looks over at me.
“Because of your father?”
“Yes,” my head nods and I wrap my arms around myself.
“You might not want kids now, and honestly I never saw myself with any either. But…”
“I don’t think I’ll change my mind,” I murmur softly.
“No, not that. Maybe Khrystina will have children someday. And maybe all that we own will go to her.”
