“So,” Silver says from behind me. “A Russian problem.”
Turning back, I see my glass is refilled. I want to tell her to just leave the bottle.
“Yes,” I nod.
I run my finger along the rim of the glass, starring into the brown liquid.
“Maybe Gio can help?” she offers.
Damn, I think. Why didn’t I think of that?
“Where is Gio?”
“On a date tonight with his girlfriend,” Silver taps her lip.
“Not a dancer is it?”
Silver shakes her head, “No. She’s a cop I think.”
I raise an eyebrow.
Silver laughs, her grey eyes shine.
“You can’t be serious.”
She smiles, “She stopped by and brought him dinner a few nights ago…out of uniform. She has a body that would have the men going crazy.”
“Who would have thought,” I say.
No more murders in front of Gio,I think.
My cellphone begins to ring. Pulling it out, I stare at the name on the screen.Reese Donnovan.
Silver takes in my face and glances at the phone.
“Answer, she never calls,” my best friend suggests.
Rolling my eyes, I grab the bottle of bourbon and walk off leaving Silver shocked.
I find somewhere quiet and by then the phone has stopped ringing. Turning the bottle up, I take a long sip. The bourbon slides down and makes me feel warm. I call Reese back and she answers immediately.
“Hey what’s up?”
“Mama Iris is in the hospital,” she says.
“What?” The warm feeling disappears quickly.
“Yeah, they don’t know what’s wrong. She had a fall or something. How quickly can you get here?”
“Drop me the location, I’m leaving the club now.”
She’s quiet for a second. “Thank you for returning my call Sage.”
I don’t dwell on it. “Of course.”
Reese and I have history of not getting along. But when it comes to Iris, I put everything to the side. I would die for my grandmother.
I spot Yasmine walking the floor, she has her hair down out of the genie pony tail tonight. Waving her over, I let her know she’s in charge. A look of glee goes through her face and then she calms.
