Page 47 of Vows of a Mobster
Yes, I was ruthless. But I was good to my women. I would make sure she was taken care of forever, even when we parted ways.
“No,” Marissa’s response was a whisper but she held her tears back.
“Have fun tonight,” I told her and entered my Bugatti Chiron. I should have driven my Land Rover. It was what I usually preferred but my mechanic complained about the battery dying on my other vehicles.
I cruised down the highway, back towards Boston. It was rare when I left a family party pleased but today was certainly a novelty. My lips quirked again thinking about Brianna’s story. She didn’t realize how much she actually told me without telling me. She might have a child, write and read smut, but she wasn’t very experienced. I would enjoy teaching her.
Fuck, just thinking about it got me hard.
And as if on cue, a red Jeep Sahara zoomed past me on the left, this time with three women and one child. Loud music played, not the kind that I preferred. All of them were singing, their hands up in the air laughing. Marissa was in the backseat with Emma, helping the little girl dance, strapped in the car seat. All three of them relaxed, their own inner circle, and it was like catching a glimpse of women I never met.
I wondered what song was that. They had a peculiar taste in music, that was for sure.
I could see from here, all three shouting the lyrics from the song. They stopped at the stoplight, in the far-left lane, and I ensured not to get too close although I was in the right lane. I wanted to see them, as they were among each other.
I saw Marissa fixing headphones, probably for Emma. I felt like a stalker. Wasn’t I a bit too old for this? I didn’t follow them, I excused myself. They just happened to be going in the same direction for now.
Brianna turned around, leaning over and helping Marissa and her daughter. She turned over and Marissa gave her thumbs up. Then music was turned up. If I thought it was loud beforehand, it was nothing to this volume.
A different song came on and I definitely didn’t like it. What kind of crap was that? Although I would look it up.
I don't like them innocent-
All their hands were up in the air, yelling off top of their lungs. Brianna’s body moved sensually to the tunes of the song, and I decided right there, I’d have her dance for me.
The light changed and Brianna glanced over her shoulder. Then promptly crossed over three lanes of traffic on the right to make a right turn.
What the fuck? That kind of reckless driving was unacceptable. She could get herself or her daughter killed!
Eighteen
Brianna
“Home, sweet home,” I announced happily as I parked in my driveway. I always loved Grandma's cottage.
Thank God for Grandmother taking me in. She was my father’s mother and a good woman. Although she took no bullshit.
She hated my mother, calling her a greedy gold digger. She left Dad when I was five and as soon as she got her divorce, she was walking down the aisle to marry my rich stepdad.
Thankfully, he was a good guy. Unfortunately, he deserved better than my mother. Everyone lost with my mother. Although I was grateful for Dad and Stepdad. When my father passed away, it was my stepdad who took me to the funeral. My mother couldn’t be bothered. As far as she was concerned, it was okay for me to miss it.
That wasn’t even the worst offense in Grandma’s eyes. It was that my mother changed my last name from Dad’s to my stepdad’s as soon as Dad passed away.
God, I missed both men. Kind of ironic. I grew up without motherly love and the love of two good father figures. My daughter is growing up with the love of three mothers and no father figure.
We all exited the vehicle, Marissa helping out Emma.
“Okay, dinner, bath, then bedtime,” I announced to Emma. She looked tired. The sickness was starting to take a toll on her.
“I volunteer to give her a bath,” Daphne shouted. “And splash her till she is covered in bubbles.”
Emma giggled.
“I volunteer to read a story and tuck her in,” Marissa jumped right in. That girl hated cooking with passion.
“Okay, then I’m making dinner,” I pretended to answer in an exasperated sigh.
Daphne and Emma hurried off upstairs to take a bath, both Marissa and I watching after them.
