Page 196 of Vows of a Mobster
Iwatched Mateo, Emma, and our one-year-old son, Dante, play on the beach, building sand castles. Emma and Dante wore their summer clothes, but Mateo wore his three-piece suit. He just came back from his business trip and couldn’t wait to see them, so he joined us the moment he got home.
Even after all this time, he got my heart racing every time I saw him. The beginning with Mateo was rocky but we came out stronger together. We traveled together through distrust, jealousy, and loyalty. It was a long and winding road but it was all worth it.
My gaze flickered over my family. Dante, even at only one years old, already resembled Daddy. His green eyes and dark hair were framing his baby face. And Emma was growing up into a young lady. She frequently visited Declan and Marissa, and she considered Declan’s parents her own grandparents.
Mateo’s gaze met mine, and instantly my heart skipped. I smiled happy to have this man for my husband. He was a wonderful father and the best husband. Yes, he was still possessive and hated if Declan’s eyes lingered longer than two seconds on me. But for me, there wasn’t a better or more handsome man than him.
He picked up Dante, into his arms, and strode over to me with Emma where I sat on the blanket. It was our picnic spot. Mateo sat himself next to me, and I immediately leaned into him.
“I missed you,” I murmured, tilting my face up for his kiss.
“I missed you more, amore.”
“You’ve been gone only two days,” Emma snickered. She had gotten really good at sarcasm. It was probably courtesy of her Aunt Marissa.
“But they were such a long two days,” I professed.
His hand came over to my baby bump. “And how is the baby?”
I was six months pregnant. We barely made it six months after giving birth to Dante before I was knocked up again. Of course, it would have helped if we used protection.
“The baby is kicking like crazy,” I beamed. “I’m guessing it’s another boy.”
“Ahhh,” he grinned. “We could try for a ballerina next.”
I threw back my head and laughed. “How about we wait a year or so? I’d like to get my shape back before we try again.”
He took my earlobe between his teeth. “I love your shape,” he muttered softly. “I love everything about you.”
“You won’t if I get big as a house.”
“Oh, I will. Because you are mine and I’m yours.”
God, how I loved this man!
