Page 167 of Vows of a Mobster
“I killed a man. I’m going to go to jail.”The younger version of my wife shook and Marissa hugged her tight. Emma kept screaming in the background and Daphne cried along with Brianna and Emma.
“It’s okay, Brie,”Daphne kept murmuring. “It’s okay, Emma.”
No fucking wonder those three were thick as thieves. After going through something like that, it binds you together for life.
“Nobody is going to jail,”Marissa was determined, her voice firm. But I could see fear written all over her face.“We’ll get rid of the bodies.”
“W-what?”
“We’ll get rid of the bodies.”
“But the other guy is not dead.”
She took the gun out of Brianna’s hands, went over to him and shot him. I had to bite the inside of my cheek not to laugh because my uncle would have been proud of his daughter at this moment. As fucked up as this was.
“What the fuck are you doing, Marissa?” Brianna screamed. “You killed him.”
“We can’t have any witnesses.”Brianna was in shock, staring wide-eyed between Marissa and the dead bodies.“He’s a human trafficker. He deserves nothing better.”
“Who in the hell are you? You are scaring the shit out of me.”Brianna pushed Marissa away.“Why do you have a gun in your purse?”
“For protection,”she answered. “My dad was a mobster so I picked up a few things.”
“He killed people?”
“Only the bad ones.”
“Jesus, I never knew a mobster. This is not good.”My poor wife had way too many things happen and discovered that night.
“What? You don’t want to be friends anymore?”Marissa was seriously asking Brianna that. It was like watching a soap opera. Not that I ever saw one but this definitely sounded like one.
“It’s not really the best time to discuss friendship terms. But you can’t be killing people if we want to be friends.”My lip quirked at Brianna’s statement. I scanned the room and everyone's eyes were glued to the screen. I caught Declan’s glance and a quick nod.
“You just killed too,”Daphne pointed out the obvious. Finally, Emma calmed down.
“He wouldn’t stop. I don’t get it.”
Brianna went to her infant daughter and placed my hand on her forehead.
“God, I hope she doesn’t remember this.”
“Stop dwelling, Brie. We have to get rid of these bodies.”
“Shouldn’t we call the police and tell them what happened?”She suggested. It made sense considering how she grew up.
“Fuck, no. You want to sit in jail while they sort this shit out?”Yes, Marissa picked up a bit too much around her father, myself and her brothers.
“Oh my God. I’m going to hell for sure. I should have just done the stupid dancing. Now I have to bury people.”
“We can’t bury them.”
“Why not?”Brianna was frowning at her friends.
“It is too easy to find them.”
“Then what do we do?”
“We should probably burn them but not sure how we’d smuggle them into the crematory without my cousin finding out about it.”
