Page 22 of Vows of a Mobster
Aware of glances thrown my way, I ignored them all. Lately, there was only one woman that I wanted to find. My school teacher, as I came to call her. These women here hoped for my attention and there were a few that were leery of me. I wasn’t exactly the most easy-going man. But I had yet to meet a woman that would refuse me.
Except the school teacher. Despite myself, my thoughts kept going back to her. I regretted not asking for her name. So I kept calling her the school teacher. Antonio hasn’t been successful in tracking her down and it disappointed me.
My brother’s office door was open and no sooner did I get to the door, my step faltered. My school teacher was here, in my brother’s office with two other women. She wore a black dress that accented her slim figure and came down to her knees. She combined it with a pink cardigan and small black heels. Her dark mahogany hair fell down her shoulders in curls that looked soft as silk. She just needed a pair of sexy glasses and she’d look like a naughty teacher.
She didn’t look too pleased, although she kept it hidden. There was no hiding that expression on her beautiful face. She kept shifting from one foot to another, and I caught her rolling her eyes. Her face was so expressive; it was refreshing to see it.
“Will you join us at the bar, Brianna?” My brother asked her, his eyes almost devouring her.
Brianna, I tasted her name. It kind of suited her. It was warm. Like her.
“I will,” one of his other secretaries jumped in enthusiastically.
“Can we finish this up?” Brianna asked instead. She was shifting between her legs again, slight agitation on her face.
“Now, beautiful,” my brother wouldn’t let go. I could see by the look on his face, he liked her a lot. Although I wasn’t sure it meant much at all. If he was so fascinated with her, it meant she hadn't caved into him. It made her more desirable in his book. I was positive he fucked every single one of his secretaries.
Well, except Brianna, I thought wryly.
“You haven’t answered my question.” I had to give it to my brother. He was relentless when it came to women. If he would transfer half of that energy to his work life, he’d get something accomplished.
“Maybe,” Brianna answered vaguely, her posture slightly stiff.
“When you say maybe,” my brother continued in a complaint, “that means no in your book.”
She exhaled, rolling her shoulders as if trying to release tension.
“Maybe next time,” she muttered.
“That’s what you said last time.” My brother was working her hard, but I had a distinct feeling it wasn’t working on her. And the more he worked, the less she was inclined towards him. I wondered how long she had worked for him. He hid her from me. I wonder how he succeeded in hiding her from Antonio too.
Marcus probably couldn’t justify her position. I wondered if she was on payroll. She didn’t seem like a stupid young girl, so it meant my brother cooked up something. I would discover whatever he did. If he succeeded once in hiding an employee, he could do it again. And I won’t have that risk in my business.
But I had to admit I was extremely pleased to find her… finally.
“Let her be,” the older woman interrupted him and Brianna gave her a grateful look. “She has stuff to do.”
“Don’t you like us?” He pretty much pouted, hoping she’d take pity on him. God, I couldn’t blame Brianna for not wanting to go. He was annoying me, and I wasn’t even part of the conversation.
“Honestly,” Brianna retorted dryly, “I see you all more than my friends. So going out after business hours with you all is not my ideal relaxation.”
Ah, there she was, I thought smugly. Her spirit. I really liked it.
“Well, that is just rude,” one of the secretaries tried to jab at her. “This is a work event and his brother is coming.”
Brianna rolled her eyes. “So I heard. Many times.” Her voice was soft and very pleasing on the ear. “Now, do we want to finish this? Because it is getting crowded here.”
It was a perfect time for me to interrupt.
“Marcus,” I greeted him walking in.
“Mateo,” my brother answered in shock to find me here.
Everyone’s eyes turned to me but I kept my gaze on Brianna. Surprise and recognition flickered in her dark eyes confirming she didn’t know who I was. A light blush crept up her neck, coloring her cheeks. Damn, she looked very attractive.
All the women scattered but she remained in her spot. She was definitely new. Everyone always cleared out of the room when I came, if they had a chance. Yet, she remained, our gazes locked.
“You are Brianna, right?” I asked her.
