My heart pounded in my chest as I paced the length of my office.
I didn't know why I was as nervous as I was.
I'd dealt with clients all the time. What made this man any different?
I could admit it had been a while since I'd dealt with male clients without a spouse.
Maybe it was the sound of the man's voice, too.
It was so deep and husky, and I couldn't get it out of my head.
I wondered if he looked as good as he sounded.
I shook that thought away, needing to snap out of it.
My work cell phone rang, causing me to turn my neck in its direction. With long strides, I crossed the room to my desk to answer the phone.
"Hello, Leighton speaking." I greeted, as my voice shook.
"Good morning, girl. Your nine o'clock appointment is here."
I felt queasy as a pool of saliva flooded my mouth. "Uhhh, give me a minute."
I quickly ended the call. I eased down into the chair to shake this feeling that had overcome me. Usually, I get nervous when meeting new clients, but I had never felt this way before.
I reached for my Stanley and took a sip of the iced cold water. I sat it back down and wiped my hands on my pants leg. I let out a long, shaky breath and licked my dry lips. "You got this," I reassured myself.
Picking the phone back up, I called the receptionist. "You can send him in."
I placed the phone back in my desk drawer and stood up. Not long after I ended the call, a small knock sounded at my office door before it opened.
My voice was stuck in my throat when the man stepped foot into my office. Gosh, he was huge — muscular and tall, with tattoos covering his arms and neck. He was brown-skinned with a full beard, had low-hooded eyes with a bulbous nose, small, heart-shaped lips, and a low haircut.
A small smile spread across his lips. "Good morning," he greeted in a gentle, deep voice. "How are you doing?"
It was definitely his voice that had me all out of sorts. Additionally, he had the face and body to match. In all my thirty years, I'd never felt like this before. He was the first man I ever reacted to like this.
I plastered a smile on my face. "Morning. I'm good. You?"
He said nothing, only stared at me. The way he looked at me froze me in place. What in the world was happening here? Someone needed to get in control of the situation. Too many pulls were in attendance.
He licked his lips and smirked. "I'm good, ready to get this started."
That was something both of us could agree on. I walked over to him with a smile on my face. I extended my hand for a proper greeting. "I'm Leighton Myles."
He grasped my hand with his large one. "I'm A'Mylo Stewart."
He shook my hand and let it go quickly. That was probably for the best, especially with the spark that pierced my heart.
"Okay, so..." I had to clear my throat. It felt like a frog had entered it. "Oh, excuse me." I chuckled lightly. "Okay, so let's get down to it. You can have a seat."
I pointed to the chair that was in front of my desk. I went to reclaim my seat and powered up my iMac, grabbing the list of houses I had printed about an hour ago.
"Here's a list of houses that are for sale. For now, we'll start with three neighborhoods you can choose from. Can you tell me what you're looking for exactly?" I handed him the papers, causing him to lean forward to get them out of my hand.
"I'm looking for houses with lots of yard space. I need something like a family home," he voiced.
Hmm, that had me wondering if he had a family. If he did, that was a bummer, but whoever the woman was, she was a lucky one.
"We have several in every neighborhood."
Every time A'Mylo's head would dip to read the paper, I would look at him, unable to look away. The man was sexy.
"I can feel you looking at me," he teased with a smile on his face.
I averted my eyes so fast. While I waited for A'Mylo to ask more questions, I rearranged the items on my desk. I had to do something to keep my eyes off of him, especially since he had caught me staring already.
"When can we start looking at the houses?"
I lifted my eyes to meet his and almost averted them again. "I'll have to set up an open house, so I'll have to get back to you on it."
He gave a quick nod. "I look forward to it."
Our eyes met and held, causing me to squirm in my seat from the intense look he gave me. It made me feel giddy inside.
A'Mylo chuckled. "If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen." He winked.
I could only gawk at this man, seeing that he was a flirt. If he was flirting with me, I liked it too much. Gosh, I needed to get laid, or this man needed to get the hell out of my office and far away from me. We needed to get back to business.
"Okay, so I need you to mark the ones you want to look at, and we can go from there." I retrieved a pen from the cupholder and gave it to him.
A'Mylo began to mark the ones he wanted. When he was done, he handed me the pen and paper. I placed them down on my desk and stood up with a smile on my face.
"Has anyone ever told you that you have a beautiful smile?"
I quickly wiped the smile off my face, causing him to laugh. I wasn't going to feed into anything he said to me. There was no way I was about to come off as easy, especially to this fine ass man.
"That is all I need from you today. I'll make sure I reach back out to you soon with the next step.
" I grabbed a business card from my cardholder and gave it to him.
"If you have questions before I reach out, here are my work and cell numbers.
" I gave both numbers to my clients, as I wasn't always in the office, in case they needed me.
"Word. I'll do that." A'Mylo stored the card in his back pocket.
I walked around my desk and stood in front of him. I held out my hand for him to take it, and he did. I felt the same spark I had felt earlier and didn't know what to make of it. "It was nice meeting and talking with you."
He gazed down at me, causing a slight flutter to settle in my stomach. "Likewise. We'll be in touch." He still held on to my hand until I made a move to remove it.
I walked him to the door and opened it. When he walked out, I closed it quickly and leaned against it. "Lawd, that man is fine!"
