Since that disagreement between Leighton and me, we have seen little of each other.
It was more so because she didn't want to talk.
I felt like she distanced herself from me, and I didn't like that.
She had me fucked up with that one. It was all good until I was horny and needed to be buried deep inside of her.
I tried giving her space, but I was lonely without her.
It had been hard for me to fix this between us.
I had to sit Nya and Leighton down and explain some things to them.
It was time to do that. Leighton was going to be in my life, and I wanted her and my daughter to have a relationship.
Nya could be a spiteful person and keep my child from me because I was in a relationship with Leighton, but that wasn't about to happen.
"Damn, man. What did the floor do to you?" BJ yelled from behind me.
Before I could put the hammer to the nail again, I stopped midway, threw the hammer on the floor, and turned to see BJ and Malachi. They stood in the middle of the bedroom, where I had laid the carpet.
I stood up, dusting off my clothes. "What the hell are y'all doing here?"
They shrugged.
"We saw your brother ordering wings from Dunk's, and he told us where you were. What the hell happened to you two nights ago? You were at the party, but then you disappeared," Malachi mentioned.
I scoffed with a shake of my head. "Y'all don't want to know. I went home and got drunk."
"Your girl pissed you off that bad, you couldn't stay?" BJ asked.
I knew if I didn't tell them what happened, they would keep asking questions.
"Nah, Leighton saw Nya there and didn't feel comfortable staying. I tried telling her that Nya being there wouldn't matter since we'd be on the other side of the party, but she wasn't trying to hear that. I could've come back, but that would've looked strange," I explained.
"Yeah, it would. What do you plan to do about it? Are you and your girl not talking or something? Is that why you're beating the floor with the hammer?" BJ asked, pointing to the floor.
I mugged him. "Man, shut the hell up. We're talking, but not like that. Leighton's ass can be stubborn."
BJ grunted. "I wonder where she gets that from.
You can be stubborn, too. I know you're going to hate to hear me say this, but Leighton had every right to feel the way she did, especially since you told us about Nya confronting her at her job.
Then we still don't know how the hell Nya knows where she works, or better yet, her full name. "
He had a point. Damn, I hated when he was right. BJ could act like a clown sometimes, but when he started dropping facts, it was best to listen to him.
"Man, this shit is hard, though. I never had to deal with this," I admitted.
"It's your first relationship since you and Nya broke up. Of course, you're not used to it. It seems like you were doing okay until now..." Malachi butted in.
I glared at him. "I'm still doing good. We're going to get over this. It's probably just a test or something."
BJ leaned forward with his finger behind his left ear. "How do you think you're doing? Are you passing or failing?"
I grunted. "Man, I have a high C."
We shared a laugh. With this relationship being new to me, I wasn't sure if I was doing things correctly. However, I knew this distance I had between my girl wasn't it.
"You'll get it. Building a relationship takes time. Plus, you're not going to have a perfect one. There will always be problems if you allow it to get to that," BJ preached.
"You would know," Malachi mumbled.
BJ gave him the finger, causing me to chuckle. "I wondered if Aaron had taken a detour or something. Why isn't he here yet?"
I left the room and headed down the hall and to the stairs. That was when Aaron came inside with his phone pressed to his ear and the bag of food in his hand. A smile was on his face as he talked to whoever on the phone.
"It's about damn time," I coolly stated.
Aaron lifted his head and threw me a head nod.
I made my way down the stairs. Whenever I was in someone's house doing a job for them, I didn't like to touch things that weren't mine, yet Aaron would make himself at home.
I hated it when he did that because I then had to ensure everything was as the clients had left it.
Aaron wrapped up his call and turned to me. "Man, this girl is about to be wifey before she's even my girlfriend."
I slapped my hand across my forehead. "Only you."
BJ and Malachi were behind me as well. They greeted Aaron, who pulled food from the bag.
"We're about to get out of your way. If you and your girl aren't back talking by tonight, come to Tito's. We'll get you drunk again," BJ stated with a chuckle.
"You need to stay your ass home with your wife," I countered.
I didn't need either of them getting me drunk when I had liquor at home and could get drunk by my damn self. I knew they meant well, but my friends thought drinking liquor solved everything. At that moment, it did, but in the long run, the problems would still be there.
Malachi chuckled. "If you need me, hit me up."
I'd reached out to Malachi before I did BJ.
BJ was known to make sure he saw all sides, when all I needed him to see was my side, which was both a good thing and a bad thing.
I knew if I needed either of them, though, I could reach out.
They'd give it to me straight. Well, more so, BJ.
This was something I had to handle on my own.
I had no idea how Leighton and I would get back into each other's good graces, but I refused to lose her over this.
This could get resolved, and I planned to do just that.
"I appreciate y'all, but I got it," I assured them.
Once we dapped up, they left the house. Since Aaron already knew what was going on, I didn't have to explain anything to him. I damned sure wasn't in the mood to explain anything to anyone else. The only thing I was ready to do was make up with my girl. Lee had better be ready for it, too.
