In the middle of me getting dressed to head out for the day, my cell phone rang on my bed.
I had no plans, but if Ni'Asia wanted to hang out, I'd take her somewhere.
With the way things were going with Leighton and me, I doubted we'd last. The conversations had stopped, and I didn't know how to approach her.
I was a bit rusty in the dating department since my last one.
Leighton and my relationship was still fresh.
.. that's if we were still together. I shook that thought away, knowing things would work out between us.
I picked my phone up from the bed and eyed the number, seeing that it was Leighton calling me. My heart pounded in my chest as I gulped, trying to get my bearings. I sank onto the bed and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
There was a slight pause before she greeted me.
"Good morning, Mylo. I know today is Saturday, but I wanted to know if you have time to view at least two of the homes you have on the list."
Was she serious? Did she really call me to view a damn house when we needed to talk about our relationship?
I clenched my jaw muscles together as my eyebrows furrowed. If that was the way Leighton wanted to do it, that was fine with me. I'd be straight either way. I tried to keep my anger in check when I gave her my response.
"Yeah, I'll be there. Just give me the address."
"Okay. I'll text it to you as soon as we hang up the phone."
I hung up, saying nothing else. Damn, Leighton, for real. She wanted to play in my face like that. Was that her way of saying, we were over? Fury washed through me as I threw my phone onto the bed. I'd view the damn house, but she didn't have to worry about me saying anything to her.
All this time, I had tried to rack my brain thinking of ways to get back in her good graces.
Meanwhile, she was only thinking of working and showing me houses.
That hurt my feelings, knowing things might not be the same between us.
Would we ever get back to the way things were?
Her ass could hold a grudge like no other. That was that Scorpio in her.
Even though the situation was small, we could have made up and talked it out, but we didn't. Nearly a week had passed since we last saw each other, but we continued talking until that ceased.
After I finished getting ready, I checked my phone to see if Leighton had sent the address, and she had.
With a shake of my head, I headed out of the bedroom.
I should make her wait on me since she had me doing this on a Saturday.
She was all about work — shut the hell up. You are too, my subconscious retorted.
Fuck it. I didn't want to see no damn houses. I was only going there to let Leighton know how I felt about the whole situation. We were going to be together or go our separate ways. That was what I'd tell her. It was a chance to see her beautiful face and test our relationship.
I headed to my car after locking my apartment. Once in the car, I looked up the address and connected it to the car's Bluetooth system, then left the complex.
Ten minutes later, I pulled into the driveway of the house and did a double take.
Damn, this house was beautiful. It was a light green and white home with a fence around it.
Small plants were around the house, with two massive trees in the front yard.
The driveway was big enough for two cars.
I continued to scan the place and was impressed with what I saw.
The garage door was open, and it was big enough to fit two cars and a grill.
I didn't want to get my hopes up, but I had a feeling I was looking at my dream home.
I still had other houses to look at, but this house, just from the outside, looked like it was mine.
The door opened, and my heart nearly stopped.
Leighton stepped out onto the porch as if she had opened that door many times to greet me.
The smile on her face did something to my insides.
She changed her hair again. This time she wore small braids.
When the hell did she get her hair done?
It looked good on her, too. I took in her appearance and nearly groaned.
She had those sexy legs out in a peach colored dress she wore.
My dick had a mind of its own as it grew.
I turned my car off and stepped out, locking the doors.
My eyes were still locked on Lee. With long strides, I made my way up the driveway and onto the porch to stand in front of her.
As much as I wanted to lower my head and kiss her lips, I thought better of it. I didn't know how she would react.
"Hi," she greeted me with a smile.
"What's up?" I shoved my hands in my pockets and stared at her, not giving a damn how cold it was right now. "Can I get a hug?" I had to feel her body close to mine.
She frowned while she lifted an eyebrow. "You never asked before. Why are you asking now?"
I sighed. "Can we do this inside? It's too cold out here."
With a curt nod, she turned away from me and walked into the house.
I followed behind her. I stopped when I saw what greeted me.
A bunch of balloons with the saying I'm Sorry hung from the ceiling.
On the floor were rose petals with the same saying in a big heart.
I clenched my jaw muscles at a loss for words.
"There are no words to describe how sorry I am for what happened last weekend.
If I could go back and change the way I reacted, I would.
I never want you to think I can't be in the same room as your baby mama.
It caught me off guard that she was there, and we have yet to squash the beef she formed in her head about me.
That's not the point, but I wish you could forgive me for the way I reacted.
It was childish of me to do so. Not only did I ruin a special night, but I ruined a chance to be introduced to your world of people.
If you can't forgive me, I know it's because I deserve it. "
I stepped closer to her and grabbed her hips and squeezed them.
"Don't say anything else. It's all forgiven.
Things happen for a reason, and we'll say this was one of the times it did.
I think you, me, and Nya need to have a sit-down.
I don't want something like this to happen again.
Lee, I want you in my life, and you don't have to get along with my baby mama.
Hell, half of the time I don't, but for Nini, I'd like for us all to get along.
I know that can be hard because of the person Nya is.
I love you, Lee. In more ways than one, I thought the worst when I arrived here.
.. well before I came. We should've tried talking this out, but I guess both of us are too stubborn.
That's that Scorpio in you and Taurus in me. "
She chuckled. "Yeah, that's true. Can I kiss you?"
I lifted an eyebrow and frowned. "You never asked for a kiss before."
She laughed and wrapped her arms around my neck. I lowered my head to kiss her lips, causing a sigh to escape her mouth. When we pulled back, I pecked her lips two more times, still needing to feel them against mine.
"Now what?" she asked.
"Now you show me the house."
We shared a laugh.
"Okay, I can do that. This is by far my favorite house I've shown you. It has everything you want, plus it comes with an extra bedroom if you were to get it. It's a way to store all the things you've built or put together. Okay, let's start with the kitchen." She walked away ahead of me.
While we walked, I took in what I was seeing.
The wall was painted white, with beige tile on the floors.
"See, I like this so much. Although it has a living room and a dining room, they are not connected.
The kitchen and dining room lead you outside to a big patio.
We'll step outside once you look in the kitchen and dining room. "
The kitchen was heaven-sent. "This kitchen is better than all the others."
Leighton nodded with a smile and walked over to a door, opening it. "Yes! And look at this pantry. You can store all the food and snacks you want. I already know Nini would love it."
I chuckled. "Yeah, my baby loves her snacks."
"Okay, so let's take a walk through the living room that leads to two of the rooms on the lower level." We walked in silence as she moved with grace across the floor. Her braids were almost touching her ass.
"Why do you have your braids so long? Are you trying to make me go to jail?"
Leighton ceased her steps, and I almost ran into the back of her. She turned around with a frown on her face.
"Huh?"
I narrowed my eyes at her. "I think you heard me. You have long braids. What reason is that? If I see a man having their eyes on you, I'm going to jail. The braids look good, by the way. It's the right length for me to wrap around my hand and pull on when I'm hitting it from the back."
She dropped her head to her chest and huffed. "You know what, I'm not doing this with you today. Let's finish getting through the house."
By the time we were finished looking through the house, I didn't want to look at any more.
This house right here was mine. It was everything I wanted.
The front and back yards were large enough for parties, if I wanted to have any, and the bedrooms were the right size.
It had two and a half bathrooms with a laundry room. I didn't want to waste any more time.
"When can we start the paperwork for this house?" I asked when we made our way back downstairs.
"On Monday morning, but are you sure you want this one? You have three more to look at," Leighton reminded me, leaning over to pick up the candle that was on the floor. She blew it out, doing the same thing to the other one.
"Yes, I'm sure. I want this one. It's in my heart to get it."
She beamed brightly. "Okay, sure. You'll have to come by my office to start the paperwork."
