What a vibe it was to get to know my Lee.
The woman was something else, and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her.
For the first time in a long time, my heart was open to the possibility of a relationship again.
That was something that hadn't crossed my mind since Nya and I broke up.
The only things I cared about were my daughter, my family, my business, and stacking my money.
That was until Leighton came into my life. I thought I could be stubborn. Nah, she took it to a whole new level. Little did she know it only turned me on and made me want her more.
I sat on the edge of the bed with my phone in my hand, getting ready to send her a morning text.
Me:
Good morning, beautiful.
While I waited for her to text back, I continued getting ready for work. It was a Saturday, and I had a small job to do. Aaron wasn't needed for this job, and he probably wouldn't work it if he had to. He didn't enjoy working on weekends, but I could work any day of the week and loved it.
I stood in front of the bathroom mirror, brushing my hair. It was time for a haircut since it had been two weeks since I had last seen my barber. I took pride in taking good care of myself. At thirty-two, I was in good shape and wanted to continue that way.
My cell phone chirped in my bedroom, causing me to put the brush down.
I exited the bathroom and made my way to my bed to retrieve the phone.
I glanced at the text with a smile on my face.
A week had passed since I last saw Leighton, and that didn't sit right with me.
We talked and texted on the phone, but that wasn't enough for me.
I had to find a way for us to spend more time together.
Getting to know her was one of the best things in the world to me right now.
My Lee:
Mornin'.
Me:
What are your plans for this weekend?
It felt like hours waiting for her to reply, but it was only a couple of minutes.
I couldn't do anything but laugh, knowing she was probably thinking of something to say.
Since I'd met her, her 'no' game was out of this world.
I quickly made her find out I was a man who didn't take no for an answer.
I was told I could be very demanding, which was true. However, I saw no fault in that.
My Lee:
I don't have any plans.
The corners of my mouth rose as I chuckled to myself.
Me:
You do now. Let's chill.
I was never the type of man to beat around the bush. What would be the point? I threw my phone onto the bed and finished getting ready for work.
After work, I headed to Nya's apartment.
I had needed to talk to her about a couple of things, mainly about Leighton and me.
There was no telling how the future would unfold for us, but I had wanted Leighton in my life for a long time, which meant she'd be in my daughter's life, too.
That meant Nya and Ni'Asia had to meet Leighton.
The only person I was concerned about was Nya.
With her attitude, I didn't know how she'd take the news.
I just didn't want or need any bullshit from her.
I pulled into the apartment complex and saw the kids hanging out on the playground. I kept it pushing to Nya's since I knew Nini wouldn't be out there. Nya didn't feel comfortable letting her come out by herself.
Five minutes later, I knocked on Nya's door. I heard footsteps coming to the door, which came as a surprise. Usually, she'd take her time.
"Who is it?" Nya yelled from the other side of the door.
"It's me, Nya," I called out.
She unlocked the door and moved aside to let me in. She was dressed as if she had just rolled out of bed in a short white and black nightgown. I didn't let my eyes linger too long, as I didn't want to give her the wrong impression.
"Hmmm, any reason you're here?" she asked with her hand on her hip.
"Yeah. I need to talk to you and Ni'Asia, but I prefer to talk to you first." I headed to take a seat on the couch and rubbed my hands together. She came and took a seat next to me.
"I have a feeling I'm not going to like this..."
I chuckled. "It wouldn't matter if you do or don't. I just need you to keep an open mind about it."
"Okay. What is it?" Nya asked.
"I'm talking to someone. Well, I might as well say dating, but we haven't made it official yet. I want her to meet Ni'Asia."
"Humph, but you just said you're not dating her. I'm not about to let you bring some woman you're talking to around my child, and you don't even have a title on your relationship," she snapped.
I dropped my head and ran a hand across it. "I'm feeling her, and I have a feeling we'll have a future together. I just want you and Nini to meet her, that's all."
Nya remained silent for a while. "I don't know about this A'Mylo."
I had a feeling she'd say that. How in the hell would I get her to drop that chip from her shoulders?
"Look, if it doesn't work out, you can beat my ass. I don't want to have her in my life and not let her meet my child."
She snickered. "Deal. As long as I can beat your ass if it doesn't work out. Knowing you like I do, I know it won't. You're married to your job."
I stood up, not about to say anything on that. If I did, it would start an argument, and that was something I tried to avoid with Nya. "I'll go talk to Nini now." With that, I strolled away from Nya and headed to Nini's bedroom.
She laid across her bed with her iPad in her hands.
"Nini!" I called out.
Her little neck snapped in my direction as she dropped the tablet on the bed. She quickly got up and came running into my arms.
"Daddy!" she called out.
I kissed the side of her face. "Wassup? How's Daddy's girl doing?"
"I'm okay. Watching YouTube on my iPad."
I sat her back down on the floor. "Oh yeah? Can Daddy have a little of your time? I need to talk to you about something."
She nodded and went to sit on the edge of her bed, and I joined her.
How in the hell was I going to tell my daughter I have a woman in my life, and it could get serious?
I blew air out of my mouth. "You know how, for a long time, you asked if your mother and I were going to be a family."
Nini nodded. "Are you?"
I shook my head quickly, dismissing that. "Nah, that's not going to happen. Daddy has found someone else, and she makes me very happy."
She beamed. "Really?"
I nodded. "Yes. What do you say about meeting her?"
A sad expression went across her face. "Will Mommy be mad at me if I do?"
I frowned, wondering why she'd ask that. "No, Mommy won't be mad at you."
"Okay then. I'd like to meet her. I hope she's nice."
I chuckled. "She's very nice..." I lied like hell just now. Leighton be mean to me all the time with her always saying no.
"Oh, good."
I hugged her close and kissed her cheek. I stayed and kicked it with Nini for a while before heading home to get ready for my date with Leighton.
"Wassup, beautiful? Damn, you look good," I greeted as I stepped inside Lee's house. "You smell good, too." I held out my arms for her to hug me.
I needed her to be in my arms. When we embraced, I dropped a kiss on her cheek and inhaled her strawberry scent. I had to pull away from her. If I didn't, she'd feel my erection.
"You're glowing, baby. You should keep that look on your face every day.
Are you happy to see me?" Leighton's dark skin complexion seemed brighter as the smile on her face widened.
"I like your hair, by the way, but I love the curls even more.
" She straightened her hair out and wore it in a ponytail.
She gave me a sheepish grin. "I needed a new style, especially when I don't know what you planned for us today."
I touched her cheek, wanting to lower my head and kiss her lips. She gazed at me, nibbling on her bottom lip. Yeah, I had to kiss her now, so I lowered my head and dropped a kiss on her sweet lips. I didn't want to pull away, but knew it was for the best that I did.
She cleared her throat, dipping her head to her chest. "Let me go get my purse, and I'll be ready." She hurried away from me.
With Leighton gone, I observed her place.
She had it decorated in turquoise and gray with a hint of white.
I noticed no family pictures hung on the wall, but there were some of her and her friends.
Plants had been placed in different corners of her living room.
I heard her making her way back into the living room area, her purse slung across her body.
Leighton stood in front of me with her hands on her hips. "You never told me where we were going."
I grinned. "Oh, I didn't? I guess you'll have to find out when we get there."
Honestly, I didn't have a clue what I wanted us to do. Currently, I'd like us to have lunch. I had to find things for us to do for the whole day.
I opened the door and allowed Lee to walk ahead of me before I waited patiently for her to lock up. I had the urge to kiss her again as I gazed at her, but I settled for holding her hand as we walked toward the car together.
"You have a big porch. Do you spend a lot of time outside?" I asked when we arrived at the car.
"No, I don't. Whenever I have time for myself, I'm usually in the house, journaling or making journals."
I opened the passenger door for her, and before she slid in, she looked at me with desire in her eyes.
If only she knew that look would have me forgetting about taking her out.
I'd take her back inside and have my way with her.
Once she snapped her seatbelt in place, I went to get in the driver's side of the car.
