Page 81 of Saving the Rain

Winnie stamps her hoof and dramatically shakes her head with a snort.

“Yeah. I hate that idea, too.” I chuckle.

“Snow’s here.” That deep rumble of his fills the barn and sets all those wings in my stomach kicking up a notch, or ten.

When I take in the sight of him, I see tiny flecks of white clinging to the brim of his hat as he leads Peaches inside the barn.

“Sheriff Hayes reckoned it would only be a light flurry today.” As he talks, I try not to outright stare at the sight of his hands running over the neck of a horse. Well, I try but fail miserably because there’s something entirely hypnotic about the way his veins stand out with that sexy ink, and oh god, I really am so fucking swept up in him.

“Need anything else taken care of out here?” He makes quick work of Peaches’ tack, running through the motions with a quiet, confident ease that is so immensely attractive.

I also hear it. That silentbefore I leavehovering unspoken on the end of that sentence.

“Nah, I’m good.” Clearing my throat, I walk across to help out with removing the saddle and carry it to the tack room. “Thanks for the help... you know, getting everything done today.”

As I let the calming scents of leather and hay swirl around my senses, I can hear Raine’s boots over the hammering of my heartbeat. Even though my eyes aren’t on him, my awareness has got a laser-lock on exactly where he is at all times.

It only takes a moment, barely a second after I step back out into the main aisle of the barn, that strong hands seek me out.

Raine swoops a powerful arm around my ribs, catching me off guard, and pushes me up against the stall. His eyes glitter at me with that fierce look he gets, the one that disarms me without having to even say a word.

“Mmm, you didn’t answer my question.” The tone of his voice dips into that deeper, more raspy octave, and I feel it reach right through the layers I’m wearing. I feel his heat in more than just the places he’s pressed against my body, pinning me against the wooden wall at my back.

“I didn’t?” I swallow hastily, with my cock springing to life at the prospect of wherever this is heading.

“Whatelsedo you need taken care of?” That all-consuming gaze wanders from my eyes, down to my mouth. When he settles there, I have to fight the urge to buckle on the spot because his pupils blow out into two endlessly dark pools of night.

Gaping at him, I’m unable to form any kind of coherent thought or words. He surely cannot mean what I think he means, and why does he look ready to consume me alive right here in the middle of this barn?

“I’m about to get in my truck.” He cocks his head to one side, and torrid intensity erupts in his stare when his focus lifts to the place where my cap sits underneath my hood. “So now’s your chance to ask for what you need, pretty boy.” With one of those strong hands, he reaches up to push at the soft material, pooling it around the back of my neck, and the sudden flow of cold air leaves a track of goosebumps peppering my skin.

A supreme level of confidence rolls off him, like he knows exactly how securely I’m transfixed. That I couldn’t flee this if I tried.

He flips my cap onto the ground, then does something that leaves my body lighting up from head to toe.

Raine lifts his hat off his head, and settles it on mine.

The warmth of the felt and scent of him claims me, triumphant and powerful, just like the look of satisfaction that twitches on the corner of his lips, and he firmly presses the heel of his palm into my torso. A silent command.Stay.

Jesus. I’ve always laughed at moments when I’ve seen other cowboys drop their hat onto the head of a pretty girl while out at bars. I’ve always rolled my eyes at the clichédness of it all.

Now? Sign me the fuck up for having Raine put his hat on my head while looking at me with a special kind of depraved wickedness.

Just when I think there’s no possible way I could be any more at his mercy, the unimaginable happens. A sight that will forever be written upon my psyche, further completing my utter ruination at his hands. Raine starts to move, and I realize in that split-second that this man is about to drop to his knees. For me.

I’m gasping, reaching out to fist his jacket before he can properly start to lower to the ground. My efforts stop him as I grip his collar tight. My eyes must go comically round, I’m sure of it. “Oh my god. No—you—you don’t have to dothat.” Christ, I’m a stammering mess. Immediately feeling like this is supposed to be the other way around.

“Why wouldn’t I?” He gives me one of those piercing looks. The kind that feels a whole lot like being scolded and yet, leaves my dick leaping to attention at the same time.

“But...” I wet my lips, ransacking around for the proper way to explain this. “You fuck me... like, isn’t there some rule about who does this to the other person or something?” God, my pulse is a blur of thrumming hummingbird wings in my throat.

“There are no rules.” Raine leans forward, letting his lips and stubble graze the side of my neck when he hovers right over that sensitive point. “And what if I enjoy knowing that I can make you spill cum like this, too? What if seeing you lose your goddamn mind like a little slut is the thing that gets me off hardest?”

It’s official. I’m dead. Buried. Six feet below this barn.

“Holy fuck. You can’t just hit me with stuff like that.”

Leaning his body against mine, his weight presses our groinstogether, and my length rapidly hardens at all his delicious bulk covering me. My own personal Raine-blanket.
