“Christopher sighed. “Nope, son. We eatin’ here. She eatin’ there.”
“Who’s cooking?”
“Fia, CJ,” Christopher answered. “It should be ready soon.”
Scowling, CJ nodded and went to Ransom’s table.
“I’ll write Uncle Cash’s death note when we get home,” Ryder promised.
“Get paper from my office,” Christopher instructed.
“I have homework, though. Mom–”
“This more important,” Christopher said. “Club business. Megan not here to do her ma stuff. We gotta show her how important that is.”
Shaking his head, Ryder gave him a putrid look. “Where’s Ax when we need him?” he grumbled and stalked off.
“Uncle Christopher–”
“Get us a setup,” Christopher interrupted, not interested in hearing how he was mishandlinghiswife. Tomorrow, they’d thank him. “I need to talk to you before the other motherfuckers arrive.”
Sighing, Diesel scrubbed a hand over his face. “Yes, sir.”
While Diesel greeted Potter, Narci, Torrin, and Huck, Christopher summoned Mortician, Val, and Stretch. If Cash brought his fucking ass back, he’d ignore him, but if Digger came?
Yeah, thatmotherfucker was owed a stomping, something Christopher couldn’t do last night thanks to his shit bath, the argument between the Triplets, and fucking Megan.
Goddamn.
Megan. Megan. Megan.
Her taste, her scent, lived in his fucking head. Her breathy little sighs, the way she’d clung to him.Lovedhim with her body and soul.
Last night, in her arms, he’d found ecstasy. Salvation and redemption.Almost.
He had just a little more pushing to do before she once again loved him without question and appreciated his games. Then, he’d tell her about Rule jumping out of the window. Tonight at the earliest and tomorrow at the latest. She had weakened. She accepted his apology and forgave him butstillshe held onto that new Megan.
The one who so easily turned against him and scared him more than anything else in the world. He couldn’t live without her.
She was embedded in the fabric of his being, his greatest obsession, his comfort and his salvation.
He loved the sparkle in her too-blue eyes and the silk of her golden hair. He lived for the sound of her voice and the brush of her lips on his skin.
Without Megan, he was nothing. No one understood how little he cared if she summoned fire to incinerate motherfuckers.Hepreferred her gentleness and kindness, yin to his yang. Balanced, she as good as he was bad that, together, made a perfect whole.
But, fuck, as long as she looked at him with the love and adoration that always sent him soaring, he didn’t give a fuck.
Diesel set a bottle of tequila down and two glasses before taking his place at Christopher’s left. The right side was reserved for Megan.
“Potter’s bringing a tub of beer.”
“Good.” He waited until Diesel filled their glasses before he continued. “Talk to Tabitha today?”
Predictably, Diesel stiffened and anger flushed his cheeks. “No, and I resent bowing down to Bash’s demands.”
Three nights ago, after ending his call with Bash, Diesel called Christopher. He hadn’t had the chance for a debriefing. His boy got in sometime yesterday. By the time Christopher got to the house, other shit was kicking off.
“Fuck Bash.”
