“Dylan, you’rewrong.”
I lifted my chin. “You’d never be this hard-nosed about anyone else in this situation. You’re being like this because you don’t like him.”
He gave me a pointed look. “I was right not to like him. He turned out to be the bad guy.”
“I know his intentions weren’t pure in the beginning. But after all he’s done, how can you deny him our protection? By sending him away, you’re signing his death sentence.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
I widened my eyes. “You’ve seen Hank. Do you have any doubt he’ll murder Lex if he can?”
He didn’t respond to my question, but a muscle worked in his cheek. “He doesn’t even want to come inside the walls.”
Is that a good sign that he said that?
“He’s saying that because he knows you don’t want him there,” I said.
“I don’t think that’s true.”
I gritted my teeth. “Charles, I know him better than you. Lex and I have a connection.”
“Meaning what?”
My cheeks warmed. “We… we got very close when he was inside the compound.”
He narrowed his eyes. “How close?”
I knew my face was red, but I held his gaze. “I’m an adult, not a child.”
He flinched. “Wait… are you saying yousleptwith him?”
The heat of my face increased. “Yes.”
“Oh, for God’s sake, Dylan. How could you do that?” He stood and began to pace. “Did he seduce you?”
“What?” I laughed. “No. Of course not.”
“But you barely know him. Why would you sleep with him?”
I shrugged. “We’re drawn to each other. I don’t know any other way to put it.”
He shook his head. “I don’t know what to say.”
“Say he can come inside the walls.”
His jaw was hard. “Dylan, he’s still dangerous.”
“What?” I frowned. “No he’s not.”
“He still wants to know the details of what happened to his father. Details I can’t give him. For all you know this whole thing was just part of his plan to get more information.”
I looked at him like he was insane. “There’s no way.”
“Maybe he and Gabriele are plotting outside right now. We aren’t home yet.” He watched me. “This could just be part two of his plan.”
“No. I don’t believe that.”
“What if he decides someone still has to pay for his dad’s death? What then? What if he decidesyoushould pay?”
