Page 36 of Omega Tricked
“Help yourself.” I moved closer.
“How about I make us omelets?” he asked.
I frowned. “Oh, I don’t want to make you do that.”
“I like cooking. Remember?” He grabbed eggs and cheddar cheese. “Do you like omelets?”
“Yes.” I leaned against the sink.
He raised one dark brow. “Will you eat if I cook you something?”
My stomach growled as if on cue. I clamped my hand over my flat belly. “I will. Now that I’m not being held captive, I’m happy to eat.”
He nodded, his expression serious. “Do you feel better now? Safer?”
“Of course.” I didn’t bother to elaborate that it was partly because of his presence.
“Good.” His gaze was searching. “I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
“It’s not your fault.”
He turned his back on me. “No. I know. But still, I hate that you were terrified.”
“We’re safe now. That’s what matters.” I ran my gaze down his broad back, trying not to fixate on his body. “I wish the bastards who did that to us would be arrested. But I know that won’t happen.”
“No. They’re probably long gone from that hotel by now.”
While he cracked eggs and heated butter in a sauté pan, I grabbed two beers from the fridge. “Do you drink beer?”
“I do.” He took the cold bottle from me. “Thanks.”
“I think I’m gonna have more than one.” I smirked, popping the lid off the beverage.
He didn’t say anything, just sipped his beer.
I set the small table and then sat down to watch him cook. He moved with ease around the space, obviously at home in the kitchen. “You don’t look like you needed a cooking class.”
He glanced at me over his shoulder. “I was bored.”
“Ahhh. I see.” I swallowed half of my beer. “You never did get me a business card.”
He stilled. “They’re back at my hotel. But I’m not sure I want to go anywhere near there right now.”
“I don’t blame you. I have no desire to go near town period. Not until we know if the local police are truly dirty.”
“Yeah.”
“What’s the name of your company? I can just look it up online to get the phone number. If your prices are good, I’ll make sure we throw you guys some business.”
He hesitated. “Uh… yeah. That would be great.”
I laughed. “So… what’s the name of the company?”
He suddenly hissed and dropped the spatula. “Shit. I burned myself.”
I jumped up quickly and grabbed ice from the freezer. “Where?”
“My arm.”
