He smiled. “I’ll wait until he’s down for his nap to talk dirty to you.”

“It’s a date.”

He leaned back in his rocking chair. “I have a few recipes I’m going to try out on you.”

“Can’t wait.”

Will started fussing a little, and without a word, Lex took him from me and started bouncing him on his knee. “I need to pick up some milk and cheese later. Oh, and diapers. God, don’t want to run out of those,” he murmured.

My heart squeezed watching him. He wore a white fitted shirt and jeans, and he looked so sophisticated with his high cheekbones and perfect sable hair. He’d taken to fatherhood beautifully. He’d been worried he wouldn’t know how to be a dad, but he was a natural.

He glanced over and caught me watching him. “What?” He smiled.

“I was just wondering how I got so lucky.”

His expression instantly became serious. “I’m the lucky one.”

“Maybe we’re both lucky.”

He pursed his lips. “Actually, luck has nothing to do with this. We were fated. Meant to be.”

“What if we’d never taken that cooking class. Would we have still met? Not all fated mates find each other.”

“I don’t want to think about that.” His voice was surprisingly hard.

“I’m just theorizing.”

He scowled. “I can’t even entertain the thought of not being with you.”

“Calm down. Don’t get upset.”

He clamped his jaw and then gave a jagged laugh. “Sorry.” He hung his head. “It’s just sometimes I’m afraid that this is too good to be true, and that the Ancients will send Charles to tell me there’s been a mistake.”

I scrunched my face. “You’re holding our son. You couldn’t have gotten me pregnant if we weren’t fated.”

“I know what you’re saying logically, but my greatest fear is losing you.”

“You’re not going to lose me. Ever. Remember, I’m the gullible guy who believes in a love that transcends even death.”

“Yeah, that’s right.” His eyes were very blue.

“I’m not sure what loser came up with that wholetill death do us partcrap, but you’re not getting away from me that easy.” I grinned.

He laughed, and the tension left him. “God, I love you, Dylan.”

“I love you too,” I whispered. “How about we put Will down for his nap?”

“And I can talk dirty to you?”

“You can do anything you want to me.”

He grinned. “Why are we still on the porch?”

“Hell if I know.”

We went into the house and put Will to bed.

Then Lex taught me a few new dirty words.
