Four days in a row. I’ve been sick in the morning four days in a row.
I let myself out of the bathroom, and I went into the kitchen to make myself some tea. My stomach couldn’t handle coffee lately; it instantly gave me indigestion. The teakettle was whistling by the time Lex came into the kitchen. My pulse picked up at the sight of him, and I couldn’t wipe my happy grin from my face. Seeing him each morning was like the warm sun peeking through six straight days of rain.
He made a beeline to me, and he kissed me softly. I pushed closer, winding my arms around his neck and opening my mouth to his seeking tongue. God the feel of his warm lips on mine was perfect. Fucking perfect. I wanted him so bad, it was hard not to blurt that out. But we’d been taking it slow. Really. Really. Really. Sloooooooow. So slow, I was beginning to be annoyed, even though I was the one who’d insisted we sleep in separate rooms. I’d expected him to push harder to be in my room, but he’d been a complete gentleman. He’d respected my wishes, and so I was horny and wound up so tight I could have come with just a few strokes.
“Morning.” His voice was husky from sleep.
“Good morning, Mr. Sabine.” I smirked. “Would you like some mint tea?”
He gave a gentle recoil and said politely, “No, thank you.”
I laughed. “I made coffee too.”
“Aww.” He kissed the top of my head. “That was sweet of you.”
I shrugged and sat at the table. I watched him stir cream into his coffee, admiring his pert ass, accentuated by the thin cotton of his pajama bottoms. I needed to let him know I was ready to move forward. I couldn’t take another week of no sex.
He sat across from me, and he sipped his coffee for a few minutes. Then he set the beverage down, his expression serious. “Did I hear you getting sick again?”
Embarrassed, I avoided his gaze. “God, you heard me?”
“I’ve heard you every morning.”
I glanced up, and he looked concerned. “I think it’s just a bug.”
A line formed between his smooth brows. “But you’re always fine the rest of the day.”
“Yeah.” I nodded. “Maybe it’s stress.”
“That only hits you in the morning?”
“I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m sure it will pass.” I stood. “I have to get to work. Will you be okay alone today?”
He smiled and stood too. “You ask me that every day. I’ll be fine today alone, just like I was fine yesterday, and the day before that.”
“Sorry. I just feel guilty leaving you alone.”
“I can tell.”
I moved to the door, and he followed. “I’ll try to come home for lunch if I can.”
“Really?” He looked pleased. “That would be great.”
“What will you do while I’m gone?”
“Probably visit with Gabriele. He needs a shoulder to cry on. Charles is driving him nuts. I think those two are either going to kill each other or end up fucking. There’s a lot of tension in that house.”
I laughed gruffly. “I told you, Charles is straight.”
He cocked a brow. “So was I. The mountain air does strange things.”
I snorted. “Those two hate each other. There’s no way.”
“You’re probably right.” He trailed his hand down my back.
I shivered with pleasure at his touch. “Maybe you can sleep in my room tonight.” I felt breathless as I said that. I wasn’t sure why. I knew he wanted to. But I felt a bit shy for whatever reason.
His eyes immediately lit with interest. “Yeah?”
