Hannah screamed as she flew out the front door, skirting beside us.

“Dammit!” Samuel yelled.

“What the hell was the doc threatening her with?” I asked.

“Some bullshit about killing me, I’m sure. You know that crazy old fucker has always been out to get us. He probably has all our blood down in his bunker for some nefarious reason or another. Killing wouldn’t be a surprising next step. He wants control of this damn camp, I just know it. For what purpose, that’s the real question.”

Samuel's chest was heaving as he spit all this information out.Siliwalked up to him and wrapped her arm around his midsection. He stared at the ceiling, covering his face with his hands as he growled in frustration.

“I’m sorry, Samuel,” she whispered under her breath.

Sam laughed humorlessly. “Sorry? You’re fucking sorry that worthless sack of shit I called mine was trying to get you killed? Fuck sorry!” I watched as he hugged her back, rubbing his head on top of her hair.

We had all come to love her in our own way. She was a part of us, weaseled her way into all of our hearts and saved our asses on the side.

“We need to find out who that guy down there with Otis is. I don’t recognize him.” My mind was running through all the faces I had seen so far once we made it back. His didn’t come up.How long had he been down there?

“Fuck, I wouldn’t be surprised if Otis has a damn team down there.”

The thought made the hair on the back of my neck stand.Sililet Samuel go once she realized he had his emotions under control.

“Fucker is always talking about the war between clans. Maybe he’s been preparing for war inside these damn walls,” I muttered aloud.

“Why us? If he’s so damn power hungry, why not just take out Sergio? Hell, take out half the people here who go to him for medical needs.” Samuel crossed his arms and stared at the doorway behind me.

“Because he knows we’d never go with it. We’d be the one to take him down.”

“So, he sends us out on a wild goose chase, hoping we’d die or fall off the face of the planet, only there was actual evidence to collect and bring back.”

“Maybe he wanted me to die,”Silipiped in.

We both turned to look at her and considered her statement.

“Why? You’re only one person.” Samuel spoke for the both of us, knowing I was thinking the damn same thing.

“He said he remembers me, but never said anything else after that.”

“You saying he knows about your abilities? How? You can’t tell through blood samples, can you? You’d have to witness it, like us.”

I mulled over Samuel’s logical line of thinking. I was not a scientist, or anything close. I didn’t know what you could decipher through blood.

“I don’t know, Samuel.”

“Maybe he’s just keeping a close eye on you because you’ve become one of us.”

“That means we’re all in danger. Get Reed and Gunner here ASAP. Seems our stay has been shortened,” I instructed.

Samuel nodded and went into the other room to grab his weapons. If it was too good to be true, it probably was, and this place has been too damn peaceful. Memories of the town we massacred came to my mind. That place was too friendly, too. Creepy as shit. I didn’t want to be a part of it if this place came to that.

“Suit up,Sili. Grab a bag and get whatever shit you want to keep with you. We’re going to leave this place by nightfall.”

I grabbed her hand and pulled her out of Samuel’s house. His boot steps could be heard pounding down his porch right after us, splitting off to the west to gather the other men.

“Do you have anything back at your place you need to get?”

“No. I brought most of the important stuff to your place.”

“Good.”
