“It’s none of your damn business. What the hell are you doing around her house in the middle of the night, anyway?”
“I wanted to make sure she made it home safely. After the way you dragged her around like a ragdoll, would you blame me? You’d fucking do the same.”
This was becoming nuts. I needed to stop all this bickering and division. “Guys!” They both snapped their faces to mine. “Both of you, get out.”
“What?”
“Sili.”
“Get out!” I was tired of this. I was just damn tired. I wanted some time alone to think, and I wanted to sleep. These guys weren’t helping anything.
I pointed my finger at Eliseo. “You, come back tomorrow and fix my damn door! I’m not living like Samuel!”
I turned to Reed with the same finger. “And you! Thank you for checking up on me. You guys need to take this shit out in training, not in my damn house!”
No one moved. They both stared at me with varying degrees of hunger, and my libido couldn’t take it. “Get. Out!”
They both were slow to turn and leave. Eliseo made sure to gently close my door, so it didn’t completely fall off the hinge. Only when I was alone did I realize I wouldn’t get any sleep tonight with that crap broken.
Growling under my breath, I waited a good amount of time after they left before I walked to the back of my house, opened my window, and climbed out. I needed sleep, but I needed it someplace safe. Making my way quietly through the neighborhood, I headed north until I reached a familiar porch.
Knocking gently, I looked left and right in case someone was following me. I had a weird feeling in my gut, and I didn’t like it. It felt like someone was staring at me, but I didn't see anyone around. The door opened an inch, and then all the way.
“Fitri? What’s wrong?” Gunner poked his head out and looked around before pulling me inside.
“C-can I stay here with you tonight?”
“What happened? Did someone break into your house? Do you need me to get the guys to go check it out?”
Good god, no.
“It’s nothing. Just let me crash on your couch tonight. I’ll be out before morning.” I didn’t want to have to explain myself yet again. My limbs were already feeling heavy from the events of today.
“Alright. I’ll grab you a blanket. If you get hungry, grab whatever you want. If you need me, I’ll just be in the next room, alright?” He walked away toward a hallway closet.
“Thanks Gunner. I owe you one.”
He shoved the blanket into my chest and smiled. “Nah. From what I gather, you’ve done enough, coming back alive with that old bastard. Glad to have you on our team, kid.”
I hoped he still felt that way once he found out my secrets.
? ? ?
“What have we here?”
I should had never gone east.
The smell of burning flesh clogged my nose as I leapt through the bushes and between the trees to try and escape.
“She’s a bloodsucker. Look how fast she moves!”
“Get her!”
“Come here, little girl. We wanted to invite you to a family barbeque,” one of the humans cackled and my limbs moved quicker.
The sound of vampires shrieking echoed all around us as the flames grew higher and higher around their crucifixes.
I jerked awake, groaning at the nightmare that threw me off Gunner’s couch. Looking around, the sun was just peeking in the sky. I needed to get out of here.
