Page 5 of Make You Wish You Were Dead
His eyes are a light brown mixed with some blue and his silky brown hair looks so soft I want to run my hands in it. His body looks like it was made from the gods above. I can tell he has bulging muscles from under the suit he is wearing.
"Done staring?" the guy says, making whatever heat is in my stomach leave.
I blink and continue to furrow my eyebrows at him.
What the hell do you want and how can I make you leave me alone?
"Jane Reyes?" the man says and I nod my head slowly.
Above this guy I can imagine all of the signals telling me to get the fuck out of this parking lot and leave.
Calm down, Jane.
"Rowan Valentino. Your parents sent me."
My parents wouldn't do that.I make a move to walk around him, but he stops me by standing in front of me.You have pepper spray, Jane, use it.
"I know you don't talk. They told me, so there is no point in not listening to me when you can't say shit," Rowan says. My hands form into a fist by my side, and I swear my heart is still pounding against my chest. "You want me to call them and show you I'm no threat?"
I don't reply. I just continue to stare at him.
He rolls his eyes and mutters 'For fucks sake'. He taps his phone a few times and then I hear ringing on the speaker.
"Why are you calling me? Was there an issue with Jane? Is she okay?" I hear my dad on the other line ask in a worried tone.
"She's fine. She is standing in front of me. I had to call you to let her know that I'm no harm," Rowan says to my dad while still staring at me.
"Can she hear me?"
"Yea. You're on speaker."
"My love, Rowan is taking you to the estate. Let him. I'll talk to you when you come home."
I want to text him and start an argument but there is no point.
"Okay I'll bring her there now," Rowan says before my dad says something else, but I don't pay attention. I walk towards the car as Rowan finishes up the conversation. Rowan opens the door to the passenger side of the car. I raise my eyebrow at him. "Come on, we don't have all day. Get in the car, Jane."
I get in the car.
Rowan slams my door and walks to the driver’s side of the car. When he gets inside the car his eyes catch mine.
Something about his eyes look so familiar but I know for a fact that if anyone looked like Rowan and had his heat filled stare, I would remember them.
Why did my dad have you pick me up? What are you doing here? What is your motive? Are you working for someone? Are you going to hurt me?
That's what I want to say but I don't.
He looks away from me and starts the car.
While driving, one of his hands is on the wheel and the other is on the gear shift.
My eyes go to his biceps where I can see the outline of his muscles.
"I'm sure your dad will explain everything when you get home," Rowan says, making me look away from his biceps and out the window. "But as I said before, I'm not going to hurt you or anything and you don't have to trust me, but you have to give me some slack if we're going to be with one another from now on."
I look at Rowan and he takes a quick glance at me.
Be with one another?
