Page 22 of Make You Wish You Were Dead
I shake my head lightly at her."I just want to try and talk to you. Please?"
Thalia rolls her eyes and straightens her posture. "Fine. Indulge me."
I let out a deep breath and face Thalia while also straightening my back. I lick my lips and then imagine a random word that pops into my head.
Rowan.
Fuck.
No.
New word.
Brown.
Just imagine the word and then say it.
Brown.
Brown.
Brown.
Brown.
My throat makes a little humming noise, but nothing comes out. I shake the nerves out of my hands and as I try to pronounce the first letter a knock on the door stops me and makes me look at who knocked.
"Come in," Thalia says and the door opens revealing Rowan.
"Ready to go? We got somewhere to be."
"Where?"I ask while ignoring how fast my heart is racing.
"Come on and find out," Rowan says before walking away from the door.
I look away from the doorway and look at Thalia who is now staring at me with a smirk on her face.
"Stop."
I get up from her bed and put my socks and shoes on.
"I really think that he will be the one to help you with opening up to people, Jane." I shake my head. "You can think otherwise but Rowan will be the one. He pushes you. No one pushes you because they think you're sensitive, but he sees past that. He sees you’re stronger. He is going to push you to the point where you are going to open your mouth without even realizing it."
"Not going to happen,"I sign once I finish putting my shoes on."I'll see you later."
I walk out of her room after Thalia says goodbye to me. When I get downstairs, I see Killian on the couch watching TV. He nods his head at me, saying 'hi' as I walk past him.
Once I open the front door, I see Rowan in the driver's seat of the car.
I keep forgetting that this is my car he is driving. I haven't driven in a while because every time I go somewhere, Rowan drives and doesn't let me drive which is really annoying. I feel useless when he drives and doesn't let me drive.
"Ready?" Rowan asks once I get inside the car.
I nod my head and he starts the engine.
Since the night at the ice cream shop, which was a few days ago, Rowan has been kind of keeping his distance from me but he still escorts me places and asks if I ever need anything. But we haven't gone to Dreams Cones or talked much about anything other than my plans for the day.
Work is going well. Callan and I have grown closer, slowly. He is super sweet and I love how he interacts with all of the kids.
