Page 16 of Make You Wish You Were Dead
I put my bag in the car and then drive to Jane's house that is literally two minutes away. Once I arrive at the house, I park the car next to her Range Rover and get out.
When I walk inside the house, there is no one in the living room.
I left my bags in the car, so I wouldn't have to carry them in. I just want to go straight to the fucking gym.
I walk inside the kitchen and grab a water bottle from the fridge. I take a sip before walking out of the house and outside to the backyard.
Eight
Jane
As I hearthe sound of footsteps coming from outside, my body tenses and I look away from the book I am reading and at Rowan who just walked outside.
I admire him as he walks towards the outside gym. He is not wearing any shirt, only a pair of black shorts and normal running shoes.
Rowan glances at me and then continues to walk towards the gym.
My eyes caught a glimpse of his toned chest and abs before he turned around showing me his back. I can’t tell if I want to stare at his chest or his back more. I imagine running my hands along every muscle on his back as he lays down and relaxes.
I don’t have work today since Callan is covering my shift. He asked for more shifts, and I let him work my shift today. I didn't want to go over to the De Luca's because the ride there is not tolerable. There has been a new driver and guard watching over me while Rowan was away, and I don't feel comfortable around him. I'm still trying to get used to Rowan living in the same house as me but for some reason, it's easier with him.
Maybe because he worked for the De Luca's.
I am still trying to figure out why he was gone for three days. When I walked downstairs three days ago, I saw a different guard than Rowan and all this new guard said was that Rowan wasn't going to be around for a couple of days.
Throughout those three days, all I have been thinking about is where Rowan could be.
Was he with another girl? Did he have a family emergency?
I have no fucking clue.
I texted my dad last night about it because I just didn't feel comfortable with this new guard like I did with Rowan.
All my dad texted back was 'I'll handle it.'
And now I see Rowan walking across the backyard with no shirt on and anger spread across his face.
I look away from him and stare ahead at the pool.
Before Rowan walked in, I was reading a book that one of my favorite authors released. I was thinking about going in the pool but there is a little breeze today.
My eyes drift to the gym where I see Rowan doing pull-ups. I can hear how hard he is grunting from the lounge chair I am sitting on.
The sound of my phone buzzing makes me look away from Rowan and pick up my phone.
Thalia: What are you doing?
Me: Nothing much.
Me: Outside on the lounge chair.
Thalia: You don't have work today?
Me: No.
Thalia: Want to come cover and hang out?
I look up from my phone and see Rowan now sitting on the weight bench doing sit-ups. His grunts are filling the air and I feel the need to cross my legs as I hear him.
