Page 45 of Loving My Omega (The Perfect Designation Trilogy #2)
Chapter
Forty-Five
W e broke apart and I sighed, feeling completely content. Marcus chuckled and rubbed my back as I went back to watching the ice rink. Sabrina and Mike finally made it onto the ice. For all his grace and beauty as a tiger, Mike looked like a newborn fawn on the ice. It probably didn’t help that while Sabrina was helping him, she was laughing the entire time.
Marcus leaned forward next to me as well. “It’s good to see him out of his element.”
“He’d only do it for her.” I smiled. “I think, if she stays the night, he’s going to propose in the morning.”
He looked at me, his eyes wide. “Really? Why would that be his stipulation?”
“I think it’s his bar every year. He wants to gage if she’s ready to leave her family. He’s always afraid that she is going to regret it.”
“Wow, so you two do have a lot in common.”
I nudged his arm with my shoulder, making him laugh. “I think his judge of whether or not she is ready is if she’s still running to her family after having a wonderful night out with him. Until then, he will wait. He’s running out of time though.”
“Why don’t you talk to Sabrina? Tell her that’s what he is waiting for?”
Turning my head, I looked at Marcus. He wasn’t looking at the skaters but at me. Thinking about it for a moment, I looked back at Sabrina laughing her ass off as Mike sat on the ice, pouting.
“Because I think Mike is right.”
Marcus hummed for a moment. “You guys are really good friends.”
“I mean yeah…” I leaned against his side. “We don’t have any family filling that place.”
I felt his head move to look down at me but I just watched Sabrina try and help get Mike up off the ground. Except he was too much of a klutz and he ended up pulling her down. She fell onto his lap and the both of them started to laugh.
“Colt...”
“We’ve all be abandoned in some way or another. Now, we have to find our own family. Friends are making up those that we lost.” Nuzzling him, chuckled. “Not all of us can have an awesome family like yours.”
He snorted. “We have our issues.”
“Sure. So do Mike, Sabrina, and I. We are part human after all. That’s not going to change because we are all different. At the end of the day though, I think you could say that you trust your family to have your back when you really needed that.”
Marcus was quiet for a moment. “And none of you have had that.”
I shook my head, leaning back up. “No. So we make our own family. People we can trust.” Looking at him, I smiled. “People that we can love.”
He leaned down and kissed me softly. “Good. Because you are apart of the family already as well.”
“I mean, not officially. Since my parents didn’t okay it.” I joked and he growled.
“Fuck your parents.”
My mouth opened and I pushed him. “Mar!”
“What? I’ll them that too when I have to introduce myself and tell them I stole their youngest son away because he was the only one worth anything out of the god forsaken family.”
Laughing, I shook my head. “Oh, it looks like they are done. Poor Mike. His ego is going to be six feet under for days.”
“I’ll get us some of that hot apple cider. You okay for a second?”
I nodded, Mike and Sabrina already heading my way. “Yeah. Thank you.”
After a sift kiss on the cheek, Marcus headed over the Apple Cider tent that was closes to the rink. Turning, I stood and met the two of them part way. Sabrina had her head in her phone but I patted Mike’s arm.
“You’ll get them next time, champ.”
“Never again. I am a tiger. I do not do ice.”
I shrugged. “I mean, you’re a white tiger. So…if there was a tiger suited for the ice.”
“Shut the hell up, Colt. I don’t know how you make it look so easy.”
“Guys!!” Sabrina nuzzled between the two of us and turned her back to me, holding up her phone. “Look at this! How fucking cute are you!”
She had the social media for the school up. People were posting all kinds of photos for the night but the post she was from the official rumor mill. I narrowed my eyes, knowing that Hannah and Daniel were probably lurking around here somewhere.
“Professor Dreamboat officially off the market. Our tall dark and handsome professor has finally found love. You would have never guessed that it was from one of our own but if you know him, you know exactly how he fell for his mate.” Sabrina giggled was she read.
Grabbing her phone, Mike read over her shoulder. “Professor Marcus Alford, our poetry and romance literature savant has always been at the forefront of the pining of students and teachers alike. However, our dear never gave even a hint of desperation for a mate. However, in the beginning of October, we shared a video of what might have been the first time our dear professor looked even a bit rattled by one of our very own students.”
“How did they even get the time to write this? It’s been like an hour!” I leaned over Sabrina’s other shoulder. “They even put photos and the original video of the poetry class!”
Sabrina chuckled but continued to read the post. “Colton Fisher, a freshman and all around the sweetest person imaginable, swept out dear professor away that day and it seems that simple interaction blossomed into a far more beautiful love.”
I sucked my breath as there were three photos from just moments ago. One was when Marcus was kneeling down in front of me just before. The other two were just now. Honestly, the photos were incredible. We were silhouetted by the Christmas lights on the tree. I was up on my tip toes and Marcus was leaning down, our kiss now immortalized. The next one was when he pulled me close and continued to kiss me.
“I…think I want the originals of the photos.” I looked up, trying to see if I could find Hannah or Daniel.
“I’ll get them for you.” Mike smirked and I shouldered him.
Sabrina slapped Mike. “Hush. Where was I? Oh! Coming straight from the source, we are sad to report that both the sweetest shifter and our Professor dreamboat are officially off the market. The two have marked and mated, now feeling comfortable to step into the light with their relationship. I’m sure we will still be seeing more from our Professor Dreamboat but any hopes that anyone had of snagging him will now only have to be in our dreams.”
“I cannot believe them. I swear. They are the absolute worst! Who cares? I mean seriously.” I grumbled, unhappily.
“I don’t know, I think it might be important to some.” Mike’s voice was hard.
Looking up, he was turned around watching the crowd. Sabrina and I turned, trying to see into the crowd. She lifted up on her tip toes but she was basically the same height as me. Mike was taller than both of us.
“Mike?”
“It’s Ebony.”
My heart sunk. If Ebony was trying to confront Marcus now, it could get ugly. I started to walk towards the group that was now forming but Mike grabbed my coat.
“Stay behind me, Colt. I don’t want this to turn into what happened the other day.”
Looking up at Mike, he was serious. Sabrina looped her arm in mine and pulled up my jacket hood. We made our way together into the crowd that was now forming. I kept behind Mike as he pushed through the crowd and Sabrina covered my side.
“How could you? No! How dare you?” Ebony was yelling and we could hear her even without being in the front of the crowd.
There were a lot of phones out, videoing the scene. Marcus was facing her but he face was completely calm. Apparently, she had been yelling at him for a little while. I grabbed Mike’s jacket as I watched.
“I don’t know what you are taking about, Ebony.”
“Bullshit! The Council told you that you had to mate me! Me! Not some spineless little brat!”
Sabrina chuckled. “I mean, if she knew what you have gone through…”
I hushed her. Part of me knew that there was something else to the Council with how Marcus had reacted but I didn’t ask. If it was important, I figured he would tell me. Apparently, he was as bad as I was with keeping information from me.
“That is not the case. You know that.”
“It’s not! They told you…”
Marcus cut her off. “The Council decided that if I was not mated by January 1 st , that they would use their authority to confirm and oversee the marking process.”
“Right! That makes you mine!”
“No.”
Ebony screamed incoherently and there was a murmur in the crowd. “You! Are! Mine! They judged that! They said on January 1 st you would be mine!”
“If I wasn’t mated, Ebony.”
“That’s not…!”
I sucked in a breath as she stepped up to him. “Mike!”
“No, Colt. He can handle himself. He wouldn’t want you in danger.”
Ebony glared up at him. “You weren’t supposed to mate before then!”
“Per the directive we both swore to, I was allowed to mate beforehand. They did not say I couldn’t mate. They said specifically that if I was not mated by the new year, that we would be forced to be together.”
“Right!”
Marcus sighed and I could see his hand tighten by his side. “I am mated now, Ebony. Anything that was going to happen between us, is done. End of story. You may be upset as much as you want, but I have found my one.”
“I am your one!”
“You’re not. You never were. I never gave you any hope that you were. I treated you the same that I did everyone else. There is nothing between you and I. Now, if you don’t mind, I would like to continue to enjoy my Christmas Eve.”
Her arm shifted and she tried to take a swipe at him. I brought my hands up to my mouth as I gasped. Marcus held her arm, right at her wrist, a few inches from his face. The whole crowd shifted and I could see security coming forward.
“You touched me! Look! Look what you have done! You will pay for this!”
Someone snorted from the crowd and I saw Hannah come forward. She had her hand on her hip with her phone up. Daniel was right behind her with a more professional camera in hand, taking photos.
“Miss Ebony, I think if you can look around for a moment, you can see that we all caught you on camera trying to hit Professor Alford. He has been nothing but kind to even talk to you. I suggest you make your escape before you embarrass yourself and your family even further.”
Ebony looked like she was going to murder Hannah. However, security was already there when Marcus let go of her arm. They pulled her arms back and put her in hand cuffs. She started screaming and thrashing against them.
“Mark my words, Marcus! You will be mine! Even if I have take care of your pitiful little mate!”
Marcus growled, it rippling through the crowd. Almost everyone was bearing their necks. Mike was okay but Sabrina was struggling under his power. Ebony had her eyes wide as she froze.
“Threaten my mate again, Blackfell and your pack will suffer the damages. Do you understand me?”
She growled, bearing her teeth as security dragged her away. Mike reached out and grabbed me before I fell. My knees felt weak and I wanted to collapse right there. Marcus watched her leave for a moment before nodding to Hannah and Daniel. His eyes swept over the crowd before he found us.
Stepping through, everyone parted for him as he came up to us. Marcus reached out and brushed my cheek. I smiled but it was strained.
“I’m sorry, Colt. I didn’t…”
I shook my head. “It’s fine. I think…I’m ready to go.”
He nodded sadly. “Alright. We can go.”
Turning to Sabrina, I hugged her tight. “You’re coming over soon, okay? I’m going to miss our history rumor sessions.”
“Oh Colt. Whenever you want, I’ll be over.”
Mike hugged me tight and I chuckled. “You’re always watching anyways. I have nothing to say to you.”
“Still, we are going to be doing check-ins. Even if I have to come over myself.”
“No stealing cars.”
He snorted. “No promises.”
Rolling my eyes, I shook my head. “Text me. Merry Christmas, guys.”
“Merry Christmas, Colt.” Sabrina wrapped her arms around Mike. “Stay safe. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
I winked. “Too late. I’m way past that point.”
Marcus held my hand tight as we walked away from the crowd. They dispersed a moment later but I knew the social media was going to blow up very soon. Sighing, I felt drained. He also wasn’t saying anything as we walked to the car. Opening up the door for me, I sat and buckled up.
Once he got in, he didn’t even wait for everything to boot up. Marcus pulled out of the stop and out of the school. Moving closer, I leaned my head against his shoulder. He reached out and rested his hand on my thigh.
“Were you going to tell me?”
He shook his head. “I wasn’t going to force you to mate me simply because the Council was going to try and force me to mate her.”
“So? At that point, I would have mated just to make sure you were mine. That I didn’t lose you.” I snorted. “Why the hell does she think she’s so great? I mean seriously? Like sure, she is an Alpha-9 but so what? Is that literally all her personality?”
“I really wish shifters all felt like you do.”
Wrinkling my nose, I shook my head. “I hate it.” I nuzzled his shoulder. “Doesn’t matter, I guess.”
Marcus chuckled. “No, it doesn’t. I’m yours.”
“And I’m yours.”
We were quiet for most of the drive back to the house. Getting out, I smiled. I convinced Marcus to put up some Christmas lights out front of the house. They were simple but they looked really pretty. Marcus came around and put his arm around me.
“I’m sorry. If that ruined you time…”
Shaking my head, I smiled up at him. “No. I had a wonderful time. I’m still so happy.”
He kissed me, picking me up and I laughed as I wrapped my legs around him. “Good. Because I’m going to fuck you good and hard like you want, Little Omega.”
“Big words, Alpha. Those are some big words.”
“Don’t test me, Omega.”
I rolled my eyes, nipping his jaw. “I still have yet to nail down that Alpha who fucked me in the club.”
“Then I think I better remind you just how much of an Alpha I really am.”
The door slammed behind up and clothes started coming off as we walked to the stairs. I chuckled as my sweater was tossed over the side of the railing.
“Show me, Alpha. Show me everything.”
