Page 17 of Loving My Omega (The Perfect Designation Trilogy #2)
Chapter
Seventeen
“ S orry, I thought I could get out early but I ended up using the whole time.”
Colton stepped through my office door, uncurling the scarf around his neck. His hair was powdered with snow as well his shoulders and backpack. I got up and helped brushed him off as he pulled off his coat.
“How’d it go? Feel confident?”
“Yeah. She said there were going to be two extra credit questions but she snuck in two more that were way harder than the other two. Those were the ones that took the extra time.”
I chuckled, sending a small prayer to Karen for having to read through his essay questions. Colton was notorious for being even more meticulous than the teachers. Not that I would tell him that he had a reputation amongst the teachers. He didn’t need to feel insecure about that.
“Well, that’s good. Do you have any tomorrow?”
He nodded. “I have two. But both classes are online. So I don’t need to be here at school. Do you?”
“I don’t actually. If my student’s haven’t given me their work today, they are allowed to send me their work to my inbox by seven in the evening to count.”
Colton rolled his eyes and shook his head as he sat on the couch, curing his feet under him. “You’re too nice. I haven’t had a single professor allow that. There was even one who required it on her desk ten minutes after class started during finals week. After the ten minutes, she kicked everyone out, locked the classroom and left with the ones that had been turned in.”
Laughing, I nodded as I handed him his second cup of tea today. “Professor Rodriguez?”
“Yes!” He let out a long whine. “She was ruthless. I really thought I wouldn’t make an A in her class. Just simply because she didn’t like me.”
“She loves what she does. The thing with her is that she expects the same caliber of writing that she would do herself. Which can be tough. Especially when she wants that of her more elementary classes.”
Colton huffed, blowing on the top of the tea before taking a sip. “I’m not taking another class with her, that’s for sure. If she was that interested in history, maybe. But Literature? No thanks.”
I chuckled. “Speaking of history, do you know ancient draconic?”
Colton turned to me, his eyebrow raised. “Some. I don’t really have a teacher. So everything I know is mostly self taught. They used to offer it as an option for language but the teacher retired last year. I’ve never been so disappointed.”
“Well, my dad can teach you if you want. I know some, but he would be better at teaching than I could. Modern draconic I’m fine with but Ancient Draconic is completely different.”
“Why would your dad teach me? I mean, I’m not really a dragon. It’s not common for other races to know a lot about dragons, let alone their ancient language.”
I let out a long sigh. “I guess you could say he’s a bit of a history buff.”
“A history buff ?”
Nodding, I smirked. “He’s the current Keeper of the Archives.”
The pure shock and excitement that filled Colton’s face made me laugh. It was rare to see that side of him, especially lately. He’d have his moments but I made sure to check over the past week. It’s why I was so shocked to see him on the floor. I thought we were getting better but him feeling like a burden to everyone around him was still so ingrained in him that it would be hard to break him out.
“You’re kidding.”
“I’m not.”
“You have to be. That means he has access to the entire Archives.”
“He does.”
Colton squirmed, his eyes bright silver. “Which ones?”
“Well, he has access to all of them but he watched over the Pinnacle Peak Great Hall.”
“That must be…incredible. I can’t even imagine.”
I nodded. “It’s pretty impressive. They used a lot of magic for it. Dad has free rein of it all too. Which he absolutely abuses.”
“Wait, you’ve been too? They can have visitors?”
Chuckling, I got up and turned the heater on a little more. “It’s open to any shifter. That location just isn’t easy to get to unless your a dragon. I’ll take you one of these days. A good percentage of it is written in Ancient Draconic though, so that’s why I asked.”
He whined and his eyes were wide as he gave me the only thing I could possibly describe as puppy dog eyes. They were wide, bright, teary, and sparkling as his lip slipped out into a pout. Glancing at the door, I couldn’t help it. I walked over and bit his lip before kissing him.
The whine turned into a full blown moan and I felt the wave of want wash over me. Colton got up on his knees, wrapping his arms around me and locking me to him. I let go of his lips, but when I looked up, Colton eyes were still silver. Except this time, there was a different look on his face. Something softer and much more timid.
“Little wolf…”
A purr resounded deep in his chest and my dragon rumbled, resonating with the purr. They pulled me closer and kissed me again. It was sweet and gentle, while their hands slipped into my hair. Leaning forward, I braced myself against the back of the couch as I kissed them back. With every fall fall of their chest, they whined. The sound so sad and pitiful.
“Little wolf, we can’t do anything here.”
Moving back a little, they hugged my neck tighter. I wanted to give in so badly. It sounded like they were wounded. Their very breath painful to breathe without me. There was no way we wouldn’t attract attention and I didn’t know if my crystals could hold out. I’d ordered some from Selene but they were going to take months.
Lifting up more, they nuzzled the side of my cheek and I could faintly smell the cardamon. For me to smell it meant they were pushing them out on purpose. Closing my eyes, I let them scent me for a minute before I turned and gave them a chaste kiss.
“Not now, little one. Not here.”
I ran my nails through their hair and scratched their scalp. What I didn’t expect was for fluffy little ears to pop up on either side of my hand. I knew that Colton couldn’t shift. His body would refuse to while pregnant but apparently, there were parts of him that he could partially shift.
It was the first time I got a glimpse at his other form. Running my hands over his ears, I didn’t think wolf’s fur was this soft. It felt more like fabric, almost as soft as his red blanket, than fur. One thing I was surprised about is that they were midnight black. Not a single white, brown, or gray hair in sight. Rubbing their ears between my thumb and fingers, they fell limp against me.
Smiling, I rubbed the other one as well. They twitched and shifted, finally flattening a little when I stopped. Reaching down, I took the corner of the soft ear in my mouth and bit down. A whimper left them before there was a sharp inhale. His hands came up and pressed against my abs, pushing me back a little.
Colton looked like a tomato, his eyes wide as he stared into the aether. His breathing was quick, according to how fast his chest was rising and falling. He was frozen for a moment, trying to collect himself. The ears disappeared off his head and I almost missed them.
“Colton.”
“Never again…”
I hummed, smirking. “What was that?”
“Never…again.” He buried his face in his hands.
Laughing, I squeezed his shoulder. “It’s okay, Colt. You’ve had to deal with my dragon enough times. A little time with your wolf isn’t going to hurt.”
“It’s…it’s been getting harder to control them. I’m sorry.”
“How so?”
He shook his head, not peeling his hands away from his face. “Don’t worry about it. Just pregnancy stuff. I think.”
“Colton.”
He spread his fingers to look at me. “Marcus.”
“Talk to me.”
His shoulders fell and he closed his fingers together before dragging them down his face. Colton was still red but he was nowhere near as red as before. He rubbed his palms on his pants a couple times before letting out a long sigh.
“My hormones…they…ramp up and I get overly emotional.”
I nodded. “That is with all pregnancies if I’m not mistaken.”
Colton sunk his teeth in his lip for a moment. “Right, but…it also…ramps up…my…um…sexual…needs…” He could barely get it out and by the end his voice was barely a whisper.
My eyebrow rose though. I’d heard of a higher sex drive while pregnant but I didn’t think that started until later in the pregnancy. Then again, Colton was already well into his second trimester. He looked like he wanted to melt into the couch cushions and disappear.
“Colt, it’s okay to talk to me about this kind of stuff.”
“Yeah, but…you wanted to take it slow. I don’t mind it’s just…”
I leaned against my desk. “It’s hard when you entire body is doing everything you don’t want it to do?”
“Yes! It’s so frustrating.” He fell back into the couch. “I have no control. No control over if I can keep my food down. If I can hold back my wolf. If I get hard randomly while doing nothing. Just breaking out into tears over something frustrating you so much simply because it’s the slightest inconvenience.” Looking up at me, Colton looked like he was going to cry. “This isn’t me. I don’t…I don’t know how to control anything.”
Walking over to him, I sat down on the couch next to him. He chuckled but there was an edge to it. Shaking his head, he swiped away his tears angrily.
“Don’t. I don’t need you to tell me it’s going to be okay. That’s it’s going to get better.”
Taking his hand, I pressed it to my lips. “Thank you.”
“For what? Having a full meltdown on your couch?”
Shaking my head, I brushed my lips over his skin. “No, Colt. You are having to deal with all this on your own. Everything about this is on your shoulders. It affects you so much and I can only just sit here and hold you.”
“That’s…that’s not true. You’ve been helping. Really. I’ve never had anyone take care of me and you have…even before you asked me to court you.”
“And the pales in comparison to what you’re going through. It’s why I push so hard to help you. I am actually completely useless while you are giving me everything I could possibly want. You are literally growing our child. That is not something I could even do or even fathom of doing.” I kissed his hand again. “Yet here you are, doing exactly that. If I could, I’d never make you walk anywhere.”
He finally cracked a smile. “That’s…over the top.”
“But I’d do it, Colt. In a heartbeat. I’d make every meal for you. I’d carried you everywhere. I’d be your hands and feet. I’d be your pillow, your toy, whatever you need to be because that’s all I can do.”
He let off a sighed and shook his head. “It’s not that bad…really. Outside of the morning sickness. I’m just…overly emotional.”
Looking back at the time, I narrowed my eyes. We were already past my normal hours. It was fine. I didn’t need to be here anymore than that. I was only doing it for the students but with how the snow was piling up, I doubted anyone was going to be out this late.
“Look at you two, all cute and cuddly.”
Growling, I glared at my sister. She stood in the doorway, the keys to my Jeep in her hands. Colton’s face drained of all the color before he put his hand on his chest.
“Don’t scare me like that, Beau. I thought you were….anyone else…I’d be on the hit list come Winter session.”
“Oh please. You two are fine. No one is sticking around in this weather.”
Getting up, I swiped the keys from her. “Thank you, little sister.”
“You’re welcome. Also, I’ve never seen Keith so pissed before. He ranted and raved to Mom. Yet, she wasn’t even phased.”
I nodded. “I talked to Dad on Sunday.”
“Well, that explains it. Him not getting the reaction he wanted only made him more pissed off. It was really funny. I swear. He get’s this selfish streak every five years or so.” She gave a quick wave. “I’m off. I only want to drop the car off. By the way, the road to your house is covered in snow. You’ll probably have to clear it to get home.”
Groaning, I nodded. “Thanks.”
Colton got up and gave her a wave as she bounded down the hall. “Did she come by to just drop off your Jeep?”
“Yeah. I asked her to bring it since I flew in this morning.”
“We could have flown back!”
I glared at him. “Absolutely not. It’s freezing outside. Literally. You are not riding on my back at all in this weather, and in your condition. Is that understood?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
I put my hand on my hip and raised my eyebrow. “Are you sassing me, Little Omega?”
“No. I just wanted to make sure you made your point.”
Narrowing my eyes at him, I chose to let it go. “Come on. Let’s go. She probably skipped off because she left claw marks on my roof again.”
“Wait, she carried your Jeep? Like she flew with it?”
“Probably if she said the road wasn’t clear.”
He scoffed, pulling on his coat. “That is…absolutely incredible.”
“Come on, we can go pick up your stuff and then I’ll clear the road.” I grabbed my duffle and my briefcase before heading out the door and locking it behind us.
“Why don’t I just drive behind you while you clear it?”
Cocking my head to the side, it hadn’t even occurred to me. “You said your ID was fake.”
“I have a regular one! I can drive! Did you think I couldn’t drive?”
I chose not to answer and dig myself into a deeper hole.
“You did, didn’t you!”
“I didn’t say anything of the sort, Colt.”
He threw his hands up and huffed down the stairs. “I swear.”
Chuckling, I opened the door for him and the both of us were hit with a blast of cold air. It made me wonder if the storm was coming in early. Colton resisted me pulling him closer until I let my core heat up a little more. Tucked into my side, he stayed close as I protected him from the wind.
“I’m still mad at you.”
“I know.”
“You suck.”
Chuckling, I smiled. “I know that too.”
