Chapter

Forty-Three

I leaned up against the wall, watching Sabrina bounce from one side of the store to the other. Mike, of course, trailing slowly after her back and forth. Luckily, I hadn’t finished my lemonade yet and the store didn’t allow drinks. I’d been saved this time but I was getting tired.

Marcus stood next to me, his arms crossed over his chest. “How?”

“Shopping and clubbing. The two things she has infinite energy for.”

“I should make her take the kids. They’d give her a run for her money in that department.”

Shaking my head, I took a sip of my drink. “Nope. You would outlast all three of them. Even if we game them caffeine halfway through.”

“No way.”

I nodded, looking up at him. “We haven’t hit her second wind yet.”

“There is no way, Colt. How is there a second wind? She’s not even tired!”

Chuckling, I took the final sip and tossed it in the trash a step away from me. “See, you say that. But she’s normally more methodical to her combing a store. Right now she’s jumping back and forth. She’s tired and not thinking.” I nodded to the two of them paying. “Rin is going to come out, said she brought something for me. I, of course, begin the good friend I am, will act happy that she bought it for me. Then, her eyes will light up and remember why she is here with us.”

“And she gets a second wind.” He finished for me.

Sure enough, there was a big bag and a small little one. She held out the little bag to me and I took it from. It was actually really small and I was interested in what she decided to get me.

“Open it! There is more where it came from but I thought this was perfect for the first one.”

Reaching down in the bag, I pulled out the piece of clothing. It was a pink little onesie and on the front is said ‘ Plot Twist ’ surrounded by some flowers. I stared down at the smallest little article of clothing I think I had ever held.

Looking up at Sabrina, she looked like she was going to cry. Throwing her arms around me, I buried my face in her shoulder.

“I’m so happy for you, Colt. I really am. You can’t cry at a piece of clothing. Not like this.”

I wrapped my arms around her. “Rin, this is the first. We haven’t…this is the first time we’ve ever gotten.”

She leaned back, looking up at me and then at Marcus. He also looked happy but like he was going to cry with us.

“Seriously? You didn’t get anything yet? You’re going to be six months tomorrow! Colt!”

“I know! It’s just…been busy and we talked about the changes for the nursery but we hadn’t actually bought anything yet.” I held up the little outfit, seeing the ruffles for sleeves and rubbing my thumb over it. “This is the first.”

Marcus took it from me and held it up. It looked really small but really big at the same time. He chuckled after reading the front.

“I mean, it’s not wrong.”

Chuckling, I took it from him and gently put it back in the bag. “No it is not.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you hadn’t gotten anything. I…”

I put my finger against her lips. “Thank you, Rin. This is the best and it fits so well. I know with you, she will always be the best dressed. I love it. If there is one person who I would want to buy the first outfit, it’s you.”

“Really?” She snuffled.

“Really.”

Sabrina rubbed her eyes and nodded. “Okay then. Now…we just need to dress you for the days to come.”

“I think we have done enough, right?”

She snorted. “Absolutely not. Nice try, Colt. Your drink is done. Now we go for more shirt and hopefully find things to get you away from all those sweater vests you love so much.”

“They help with the layers!” I whined as she pulled me back down the center of the mall and to the escalators.

“Yeah, well, pretty soon they aren’t going to help hid anything. I can already tell and give it another week and so will others.”

My mouth dropped open. “Are you serious?”

“Come on. We are finding you clothes. Stop fighting and just come. You’re not even paying!”

“Rin!” I whined again but we stepped over the threshold of another store. “I’m tired, Rin. Let’s just go.”

She huffed as she threw a shirt over my arms. “Four more shops.”

“Four?” I nearly screeched the word.

“Want me to make it five?”

Shaking my head, she nodded. “Good boy. Now, follow me. I’ll make sure you look good even when you look like Mrs. Gladly.”

I started whining again and behind me, I heard behind me the traitorous chuckle from Marcus and Mike. Marcus I wouldn’t subject to Sabrina’s shopping rage but Mike was open season. Clearing my throat, I smirked as I winked at Mike. His laughing stopped and he glared at me.

“Hey Rin.”

Mike narrowed his eyes. “Colt, what are you doing?”

“What’s up?” She bounded back to me while setting two more shirts on my arms.

“Mike gained six pounds since November and doesn’t fit in three of his dress pants and six of his dress shirts.”

Sabrina froze, turning on her heel to look at her boyfriend. “Excuse me?”

I leaned in. “He has nothing to wear to the club. He didn’t want to tell you he gained weight so that’s why he hasn’t been going for the last month.”

“You traitorous little bastard! I should have never have you help me hide the evidence!” Mike growled at me.

Marcus, standing next to him, took a step away from him. “I think I can help Colt pick out some shirts.”

Smiling sweetly at him, Sabrina nodded. “Please do, Professor. I need to have a quick chat with my boyfriend .”

Sliding up next to me, we watched as she slowly walked up to him. Sabrina grabbed Mike’s ear and pulled him out of the store and I gave a salute as he flipped me the middle finger. Marcus chuckled awkwardly.

“Did we just witness a kidnapping?”

I shook my head. “Maybe the beginning of murder but never a kidnapping.”

“Got it.”

We looked at each other and laughed. “Come on. I never thought someone would scare me as much as my mother, but on multiple occasions, Sabrina has done so. We can look around and see if there is anything you actually like in here.”

Groaning, I let my shoulders hang. “I thought I was getting off the hook.”

“I think picking out shirts rather than whatever is happing to Mike right now is getting off the hook.”

“Yeah. You’re probably right.”

Marcus looked around a little before grabbing a shirt and holding it up. “You really are mean.”

“Don’t laugh at my expense and I won’t be.” I took the shirt from him and added it to the pile. “I just know you couldn’t handle it. Not yet anyways. She takes a few times to get used to when it comes to shopping.”

“Yet you never disappoint me.” Sabrina grabbed my arm and pulled me away from Marcus. “Come, into the dressing room. See how you like the fit.”

I looked behind her but Mike was nowhere to be seen. “Where is Mike?”

“Who?”

“Rin…what did you do to him?”

She shrugged. “Don’t worry about it. Just try it on. After this it’s three more. Then you can go home with your dreamboat and I can decide the best place to bury the body.”

“You know better than that.” I leaned out of the door for the dressing room. “Selene would be a much better choice and she’s just a few shops away.”

Sabrina cackled and I smiled, clothing the door. It had been a while since we were like this, the three of us. Everything got thrown into chaos and none of us really felt comfortable to go out like this. Not that we felt comfortable now, but Sabrina was right in forcing us to do it. We needed it. A lot was going to change moving forward and we probably wouldn’t have time like this for a while.

Y ou will. Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you can still see them. They will always be welcome to the house as well. Marcus’ voice filled my mind.

I smiled as I lifted off my sweater and shirt. Thanks, Mar. That means a lot.

No more dressing rooms with another man. I can’t believe I have to actually say that.

Laughing, I tried on the first shirt, feeling fine in it, if not like it was a little big. Which technically was perfect but still felt weird to think about. I tried one the next two, not liking them before agreeing to the last two.

We didn’t do anything. Well, he put his hand on me and then very nearly lost his soul when our little girl decided to move for him.

Our little plot twist?

I chuckled, stepping out of the room. Yes. Our complete coming in from left field incoming grenade.

Marcus was smiling as he took the shirts I liked from me. “I love you, you know that right?”

I nodded. “I do.”

He waited for a moment before grabbing my face and pulled me up close, kissing me hard. “And you?”

“I mean, you already know I love you too.” I smirked but he nipped at my lip.

Yelping, I glared at him as he walked off to pay for the clothes. Sabrina came up next to me and elbowed me a couple times. I looked over at her and she was smiling.

“He’s a good one, huh?”

I nodded. “I think so. Why?”

Her eyes lifted for a second before looking back at me. “No reason. Come on, next store!”

She skipped out of the store and I followed after her. Reaching up, I patted my head. My fingers touches something softer than my hair. Groaning, I tried to rub my ears back into my head. Marcus had made me shift just by biting my lip.

“You…fucker.” I glared at Marcus as he walked out of the store cackling.

Mike came up next to me, looking like he aged five years. He also was holding six bags from a store I knew Sabrina loved to get him clothes at. His eyes lifted to my head and he smiled. Reaching up, he tried to rub my ears. I moved the out of his reach until he swapped the bags in his hand and caught one of my ears.

“I don’t understand how you are always so fluffy.”

Marcus came up and I thought he would be upset that Mike was touching them but he didn’t seem bothered at all. “Have you see him fully shifted?”

Mike nodded. “He’s this soft all over. Also completely black all over. He sticks out like a sore thumb. Except when we used to shift and running at night. It was like he was the shadows. He’d disappear and reappear moments later.”

“Can we not be discussing how fluffy I am? Please?”

“No! If there is one thing that is Omega, it’s being so soft in your wolf form. It is the one thing you can’t get away from.”

Sighing, I jogged to join Sabrina. Never thinking in a million years that she was the safer options while at the mall. Looping her arm in mine, we headed down the walkway to another store. I could hear Marcus and Mike discussing my shifting behind me and I grumbled.

“I think it’s cute. They are bonding. Mike hasn’t had anyone else besides you and me. He obviously trusts Marcus enough to watch you and he chose Marcus to help when you needed it most. I call that a win.”

“They will never be friends.”

Sabrina laughed. “Maybe not. But that doesn’t mean they can’t just be friend of a friend who get along. Especially with Mike’s personality, people he can trust and who can handle him are few and far between.”

I nodded before getting yanked to the side and into a new store. “I think you have gotten me more clothes than I have even bought since high school.”

“Good! It’s about time! Otherwise, you either end up in the dresses that Mrs. Gladly wears or naked.”

Marcus chimed in from the back. “One of those doesn’t sound too bad to me.”

Turning around, I glared at him. “Whose side are you on?”

This time Mike laughed. “He’s on the side of whichever gets you naked, Colt. Duh. You’re already knocked up. Not much else you can do at the point.”

Slamming my palm into my forehead, I turned back around to find Sabrina. “Save me. Please.”

“Never. Cause something like this would look cute if you weren’t wearing anything under it.”

“Rin!”

She smiled. “What? All occasions, Colt. All occasions.”

I had finally come to the conclusion that I hated all of them and just wanted this torture to end.
