Page 22 of Loving My Omega (The Perfect Designation Trilogy #2)
Chapter
Twenty-Two
“ R eady?”
He shook his head. “I don’t know if I ever could be. This…kind of makes it official. Outside of the science experiment in class we did.”
I kissed the side of his head. “I’m here with you. No matter what. I’m not going anywhere.”
Colton nodded and smiled at me, but it was strained. I stood behind him and wrapped my arms around him, making sure his back was pressed against me completely. After pressing a few buttons on the machine, it beeped and a sheet printed out from the back of it. My dad passed it to me.
“Dragon Shifter, Alpha-10. Mother Ice Dragon Alpha-2 and Father Fire Dragon Alpha-8. Lineage…straight dragons.” I chuckled. “That’s actually kind of rare. Most have dabbled back at least six or so generations ago.”
Colton chuckled. “So…incest?”
Dad barked out a laugh and I smiled. “You’re probably right.”
“What else?”
I went through everything else. “Blood type is AB. Oh! Interesting. 89% fire dragon, 10% ice dragon, and 1% other. Other? What’s the other?”
My dad chuckled. “Your great grandfather’s brother was a celestial dragon.”
Colton cocked his head to the side. “What’s a celestial dragon?”
I grumbled. “A lazy fat oaf.”
My dad tried to hold back a smile. “Celestial dragons fall into two different categories. One is basically a dream dragon. A dragon that can traverse dreams and subconsciouses. Those are the more common celestial dragons but they are rare on their own.”
“And the other?”
I rested my chin on his head. “Literal translation. Celestial which would be stars. Not much is known, there hasn’t been one since…” I looked at my dad.
He hummed. “Thousands of years.”
“ Thousands ? Are the records of them?” Colton was too excited.
“In the archive out in Thailand. All of them are written in ancient draconic though.”
I could literally feel him vibrating with excitement. “Marcus had said something that you would be willing to teach me Ancient Draconic. Everything I know is just self taught but if you would be willing to…that would be incredible.”
My dad laughed. “I would be honored. Carve out some time and we can have you up at the estate. We will go to the archives and teach you direct from the source.”
“That would be amazing . Thank you, Mr. Alford.” Colton turned to me. “Anything else?”
I shook my head. “Nothing else really important. Age, forty-six. High protein. Warm-blooded.”
“Warm-blooded?”
Smiling, I nodded. “We aren’t lizards, contrary to popular belief. We are draconic, which are warm blooded creatures.”
Colton nodded and I felt him take my arms. Dad was watching him and when Colton finally nodded to him. He pressed a button and Colton’s results printed out. Without looking, my dad held out the paper to Colton. He shook his head and looked up to me.
“Can you read it?”
I searched his face. “Are you sure?”
“Please. I think…I’d rather hear it from you.”
Nodding, I reached out and grabbed the paper from Dad. Taking a breath, I flipped it over and read.
“Wolf Shifter, Omega-10.”
My eyes widened and my dad sucked in a breath. Looking up at him, I could see it in his face. There wasn’t excitement or amazement, it was fear. Not of Colton but for Colton. This alone changed everything. He was trying to school his features, but Colton caught it. His head leaned back and he looked up at me. I did my best to give him a smile, but I could only distract myself by reading the rest of the paper.
“Mother Timber Wolf, Beta-10, and Father Spiritual Dragon, Omega-10.” My heart hammered, utter shock rolling through me. “Lineage is spilt. Mother’s side shows a lot of Timber wolves, with some Arctic and Tundra. Father’s side…is celestial, spiritual, and void.” My dad had only recently touched on it, but it would be much more important now. “Blood type is O. 35% Timber wolf, 25% Spiritual dragon, 16% Tundra wolf, 9% Void dragon, 8% Arctic wolf, and 7% other.”
I took a breath, barely comprehending what I was reading. “Bloodline Ancient Origins, abilities not guaranteed.” Again, I looked up at Dad but he was ashen, not looking at anything but the machine.
“Age, nineteen. Pregnant, female alpha offspring, draconic. Warm-blooded…” I inhaled sharply. “A girl…we are having a girl…”
“I didn’t know the machine would read that.” Colton reached up and grabbed the paper from me. “Dr. Cardiff said I wouldn’t be able to find out until next appointment because she couldn’t do a blood test.”
The paper in his hands shook. “Mrs. Truman was right. She…before they took her to the hospital. She told me that I was going to have a girl. She was right…”
His tone was so sad and I wanted to comfort him but the shock of everything else stopped me from being able to move my body. The room turned insufferably quiet, all of us dealing with the information. I was elated. A little girl. At the same time, the information about Colton was so much worse than I ever imagined. I almost wished my dad hadn’t been here for it. My trust in him with implicit, but this was asking a lot of him.
“This…is bad, isn’t it?” Colton looked up at me, worry in his eyes.
He didn’t understand and it was completely understandable. Not only hadn’t he been raised an Omega, but even information regarding this was only easily accessible in the archives. Information that my dad and I just went through.
Kissing his cheek, I nuzzled his neck to try and calm him. “It complicates things.”
“I-I can leave. I don’t want to make anyone else’s life more complicated. I mean, I already do but this seems like it’s bad…”
“Oh no you don’t.” I turned him around and held his cheeks in my hands. “I am with you, now until you tell me to go. No matter where you come from, you are who you are. You are Colton, the strong, stubborn, smart, ever-curious, beautiful, wolf shifter. My Omega with Beta strength and heart. You captured me. You are not going anywhere and neither am I.”
Colton smiled. “Marcus, if this is too big though…”
“We face it together.” I looked up at my dad.
There was a serious look on his face and his color still hadn’t returned either. This was dangerous. For me, for our family, for the flight, and most of all for Colton. It put Colton’s life in far more danger if he ever got caught. If he hadn’t hid who he was, he might have been dead already.
Wars could easily be waged over him if he was found out. Not to mention it would put any pups we had in serious danger as well. We would need to dig in the archives to get more information about the last Omega-10, who would have been Rafael Domingo. However, when two tens were mated, their children were never less than level nines. Automatically, Colton and I could have a chance of having multiple Omega-10’s and Alpha-10’s.
It would be mayhem. If the Council ever got ahold of this information all hell would break loose. There would be no safe place for Colton or our children. They would be used, manipulated, or worse, bought and sold like they did now. Some would view Colton like he was the messiah coming to save the grounders but they wouldn’t treat him like that. He would get treated like every other Omega, passed around until his body gave up. The same horrible story I read over and over in the archives about grounders surviving the auctions. My fists balled up.
“Marcus.” My dad saw my conflict.
Grabbing the machine, the two pages and the vials, I tossed everything into the fireplace that had died down to embers.
“What? Mar…what are you…?”
Clicking my tongue, I let loose a torrent of fire. The flames turned blue after a second and I watched as the entire machine melted. The pages were already ash, but the entire thing needed to burn. It held the memory and remnants of Colton’s information, even if it didn’t send them anywhere. The computer inside could be taken apart and patched back together to recreate the information. Closing my mouth, I inhaled deeply and turned to my dad.
“This doesn’t leave this house, this room, or this moment.”
Colton looked from me to him. “Marcus, I don’t think your Dad…”
I stalked up to Dad, staring at him down. He was a couple inches shorter, but he was still a leadership Alpha. He’d pulled himself up as well, knowing I was coming at him with my full strength. Especially since I only had one crystal and my glasses left.
“You cannot tell anyone. Not even Mom.”
“I can’t keep information from her, son. You know that. I am also a Keeper. I made an oath.”
I growled. “I will not put my family at risk. Do you need me to command it?”
Dad sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
Colton stepped in again. “I don’t really think that’a necessary. I mean, I don’t mind if your mom knows. I trust you, Marcus.”
He grabbed the side of my shirt but I didn’t dare look at him. Right now, my dragon was sizing up how much my dad was a threat to us, to our mate, and to our hatchling. My family. It was lucky my glasses were still on because my last crystal would have already broken.
“Do it. This is too important not to.”
I nodded. “Thank you for admitting that. I’m not sure if I could have trusted you otherwise.”
Dad hummed and nodded. None of this was good. I couldn’t remember the last time I had command my own family. At least on purpose or when I wasn’t trying to get a treat well past bedtime. As an Alpha, I knew this couldn’t be easy for him to accept either.
“Colton. Get into the living room. Sit down in the chair and wrap yourself in the blanket.”
“Wait…why? What’s going on? Marcus, you’re freaking me out.”
“Because you’re not ready to stand next to me yet and I need my full power.”
I felt Colton’s hand tighten around the fabric of my shirt for a moment. Then, slowly, his hand left and I focused on the sound as he moved into the living room. Listening to his shuffling, I heard him wrap the blanket around himself and supposedly sit down. My dragon wouldn’t allow me to check. Colton was not the threat and you never took your eyes off the threat.
Slipping my glasses off, I placed them on the counter along with my cracked crystal. Standing to my full height, I looked down at my dad. My pheromones oozed out; wrapping around my father and tightening their hold.
There was no one who could deny my order. I was a level ten Alpha. Except maybe Colton, being a level ten Omega. But right now, having my mate and my pup under threat, I felt a strength I’d never reached before flow through me. My power and my dragon wanted to eliminate the threat, but I held him back. Ordering would be enough.
“I, Alpha Marcus Blaze Alford, do hereby order Alpha Tyson Inferno Alford to never speak or think of the information we have learned about Colton Reinhardt Fisher. You are not to tell anyone or anything, living or dead. If pressured, you will say that we found out Colton was an Omega-6. Is that understood?”
I could see my dad fighting under my command. It wasn’t personal, I knew that. His own dragon was an Alpha, leader of a pack for a hundred years. It was not in his nature to take a command. Not to mention I was his son, an offspring ordering his parent would not be tolerated in most scenarios. It did offend my dragon though and he pushed even more power out. Dad dropped to his knees, baring his neck.
“ Do you understand ?” I growled out again.
“Yes, Alpha. I understand.”
His submission snapped the command in place and immediately, I yanked back my dragon. Pulling back my power, I cut off my pheromones. Settling my glasses back on my nose, I tried to pick up the crystal but it turned to dust in my hand. Sighing, I shook off the dust into the sink before reaching down and helping my dad up.
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t…”Glancing back at Colton, he was still bundle up in the blanket, watching us with a frown on his face.
“It’s fine, son. You are protecting your mate and your family. I am proud of you. You are special, Marcus. I don’t think I known any shifter, dragon or otherwise, who loves and protects so completely. I don’t know how when your brother acts like a total monkey sometimes but I am so proud of the dragon and the Alpha you have become.”
I smiled and hugged him. “Thanks, Dad. For your help with this. I hope…I can still rely on you…”
Dad snorted. “Of course! You’re going to need a hell of a lot of help moving forward.” After he rubbed his face, I could see the deeper lines and he looked far more exhausted than just a minute ago. “I’m going to head off though. That tired me out and my dragon is not happy right now.”
“I understand. I’ll talk to you later, Dad.”
Striding out the back door, it shut behind him but through the window you could see him take two steps before shifting and taking off.
