Page 42 of Loving My Omega (The Perfect Designation Trilogy #2)
Chapter
Forty-Two
M ike, Sabrina and I stared into my apartment from kitchen. All three of us cocked our heads to the side as we continued to stare. Sabrina finally threw her hands up.
“Just throw it all out. You don’t actually need any of it. It’s not a family heirloom or anything.”
Sighing, I rubbed my face. “The box of stuff from Mrs. Truman is.”
“Yeah, but we aren’t talking about that. You have maybe two boxes worth of actual items. Clothes that don’t fit anymore, and the box that Mrs. Truman gave you. There is literally nothing else here, Colt. You don’t need the bed, or any of the furniture. You have nothing.”
I let off another sigh. “Thanks, Rin.”
“I mean, it’s true. It’s fine. You weren’t planning on staying anyways. So, it’s not really any issue right? Didn’t your dragon-man buy you somethings already for the house? You have more stuff there than you do here and you didn’t even move anything.”
“Alright. Well…then…let’s at least fill my two boxes with the stuff in the cabinets and the clothes…and we can…toss everything else, I guess.”
Sabrina rolled up her sleeves and slapped Mike. “Come on. We get this done and we can go to the mall after.”
Turning around, I pulled everything from the cabinets and set it onto the counter. Sabrina immediately opened up the bathroom and started handing stuff to Mike, which he put on the bed. It sadly didn’t take very long to have everything out.
The food in the fridge and the stuff in the cabinets got tossed. I pulled my plates and all my cookware and set it out. I could probable ask around the complex to see if anyone wanted it. Mike jammed the door open and set the stools out onto the walkway. The tea and few things I had went into the box with my clothes that, as Sabrina pointed out, no longer fit but hopefully would again.
“Alright, I think…that is everything. Do you want to double check, Colt?”
Going through the bathroom, she had pulled the shower curtain and tossed it in the trash, as well as a few other things. My laundry basket was now full of trash and I felt a little sad. Even though it wasn’t a lot, this was my entire life. Checking under the bed, there was nothing and Sabrina had even gotten the few items in my nightstand.
There really was nothing left. My entire life was neatly packed up into two sixteen inch square boxes. Sighing, I basically was kicked out as Mike moved the bed. Sabrina deemed it too heavy for me to handle in my current condition. Knocking on Mrs. Williams door, she smiled as soon as she opened the door.
“Colton! How are you doing? I feel like I haven’t see you around as much.”
Nodding, I looked down the hall as Mike pushed the bed out of my apartment. She looked as well, her eyes wide.
“Are you leaving us?”
“I am.”
She held my hands. “You’re not in any trouble? You know we will help if we can.”
“No. I…” Blushing, I pulled the collar of my shirt out to show her the now healed mark.
Mrs. Williams squealed and squeezed my hands. “Oh! Sweetheart! I’m so glad! I know Bridgett would be so happy as well.”
“I think so. She approved of him…so I can only hope.”
“Is it that sexy dragon that comes by?”
I nodded, smiling.
“Well, I am so glad. He seems like a good one, Colton.” She reached out and hugged me. “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to come back. We will always be a funky family and we will do our best to help.”
Tears didn’t fall but I did feel a sense of loss, saying goodbye. “Thank you. I…I have some things. I know no one probably wants my mattresses or my old furniture but the pots and silverware and stuff. I know Kirk could at least use something other than the infinite amount of bowls he seems to have.”
She laughed, dabbing the tears from her eyes. “Yeah! Um…set the plates and stuff that you want on the table, I’ll tell everyone it’s upon for grabs. You could probably leave the furniture too. The Lawrence kids seem to break everything in that apartment on a weekly basis, so they may need something.”
“I’ll put it by the trash can but I won’t put it in. That way they can grab it if they want, otherwise it will still go out.”
Nodding, Mrs. Williams hugged me again. “Oh Colton, I’m going to miss you. You bright such light over here.”
“I really didn’t. I’m sorry I could never do more.”
“Don’t you say that. You’ve helped all of us at one time or another. But this is a new journey. One you have to pick up and run with. This is a chance to get out and do something great. Not be stuck here, hiding in the back alleys. Spread those wings of yours and show the world what you are made of.”
Taking a deep breath, it was getting really hard not to cry. “Thank you. I just…I wanted to say goodbye. I know most everyone is out right now. So…tell them bye for me.”
“I will, sweetheart. I will. Now go! Get out of here.”
Nodding, I turned and didn’t look back. Grabbing some of the stuff Sabrina was holding, I helped her take it down to the tables. We loaded that up while Mike finished taking the furniture to the trash. One final trip up and I looked into my apartment, the only two boxes left now sitting in the hallway.
It was empty. Just like when I had moved it. Before, I’d seen this as my own little haven. I’d managed to get out from the pack territory and I was safe here. I’d never been so wrong but for a long time, it had been. Tossing the keys onto the floor, I shut the door and turned around. Sabrina was holding on box and Mike was holding the other.
“Ready?”
I smiled. “Yeah, I am.”
We stepped down the stairs and I stopped at the bottom of it.
“Colt?”
Turning around, I grabbed the fake step and tore it away from the wall. Kicking the railing, it bent away from where the stair should have connected to it. Spitting on the ground, I flipped off the stairs.
“Try to fucking pass inspection with that, asshole.”
Sabrina laughed and Mike smirked. “I’ll send out an anonymous request for an inspector later.”
“Good. Fuck him.”
We walked out together and loaded up Sabrina’s car with my two boxes. Getting in the back, I sank into the seat. Mike got in the passenger seat and Sabrina got in the driver’s seat. Pulling out, she turned around in the road and headed back towards the center of town.
“Did we want to drop the boxes off at Professor Dreamboats office? Or did we want to go to the mall first?”
Mike hummed. “I mean, I’m sure Colt and I could be in agreement in skipping the mall all together.”
I couldn’t have agreed with him more. Sabrina, on the other hand, refused the both of us.
“Fine. We will go to the mall now. You can put what we buy to actually fill up those boxes rather than the two thirds they are at right now. Then we will take them to the professors office.”
Mike and Sabrina started to argue about it but I knew better at this point. It was happening whether I liked it or not. Pulling up my phone, I looked at the time. Marcus class would be ending soon.
Colton
I am heading to the mall with Rin and Mike
Colton
I’ll be back hopefully in a couple hours
Colton
Unless Rin forces me into every store in the entire mall
I sighed as the two still bickered up front. My phone buzzed and I looked down, surprised to get a message.
Professor Dreamboat
Did you want my card? I could end class early and close my office hours.
Colton
No.
Colton
We will be fine.
Colton
Mike is actually here in person
Professor Dreamboat
Will wonders never cease.
I snorted and shook my head. Sabrina looked at me through the mirror. Shaking my head, I lifted up my phone. She rolled her eyes and slammed her fist into Mike’s chest.
“Don’t argue with me. You want to pull the fact that you are just looking out for me, then you ask me on one knee. Outside of that, you are going to the mall with Colt and I. You are going to smile and be civil about it. And if I ask you to try on anything, you’re going to because you love me or so help me I will go on one knee and ask you!”
Mike pouted but gave as Sabrina made the turn to the underground parking for the mall. “Fine.”
“Thank you!”
I chortled and shook my head. “Can we just…not make this a whole thing?”
“Oh, it’s going to be a whole thing. Now, both of you, quit complaining and embrace the mall experience.”
Mike and I rolled our eyes simultaneously but Sabrina wasn’t deterred even a little. She parked and we all got out. I, unfortunately, was her chosen date for this, which made Mike the third wheel this time around. He followed behind us but unlike usual, he wasn’t buried in his phone. Sabrina dragged me into a store immediately from walking in but she bounded off when she saw a cute dress hanging up.
“Everything okay?” I asked him, looking through the men’s clothing and finding nothing that would even remotely look good on me.
“Just needing to stay vigilant. I don’t want anything to happen simply because I wasn’t paying attention.”
I looked at up at him. “That’s not like you.”
“I aways watch…”
“Not that, dumb ass. I just mean, that something gets to you enough that you feel like her have to be Beta. Usually you do it from behind a computer, not in person.”
Mike looked over at Sabrina and narrowed his eyes. “Her dad wants her back to the pack. He found a mate potential for her. Not as great as her sisters, of course. No one can upstage her sister. Still though…I’m worried he’s willing to go as far as yours.”
“Why not just mate her?”
“I don’t know if she’s ready yet. I know she jokes about it, but does she really want to get stuck with me? She’d be abandoning her pack and her family. For me.”
I snorted, shaking my head. “Honestly, you should be listening to your own damn advice you give me!”
“What?”
“Don’t you what me! You are so much more. She loves you, Mike. Rin always had and she’s always had to make the first move because you are too scared to do it. Scared because you think you’re not good enough.” I gave him a look. “Sound familiar?”
He looked up at the ceiling and hummed. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Elbowing him in the side, I talked around and looked a few of their shirts. Nothing in here was my style but a few of these I could see Mike wearing. He wasn’t interested in shopping at all though so I wasn’t going to even try.
“Plus, you can join our pack.” I smiled, holding up a shirt to my body that had ‘Fuck Boy’ written in white across the chest.
Mike snorted. “Please get that. At least in a large night shirt. I’d love to hear how well that goes over with your mate.”
I chuckled and searched through the rack for their largest size. “Mike, he wants two hundred pups.”
“You’re joking.”
“I really don’t think he is.” I grabbed a 3XL from the very back of the shirt. “I genuinely think he wants that many. We will literally be our own clan. So you can just join ours.”
He chuckled. “Yeah, how about you get to like…say…five and we will revisit the whole clan idea.”
I wrinkled my nose. “Even five sounds like a lot.”
“Because it is a lot.” Sabrina bounded over to us with her arms full. “But you have a lot more time now. So, it’s okay. You can spread out your two hundred pups over the multiple hundred years.”
She grabbed the shirt I picked and snorted. “Absolutely. Yes. Come on. We need to check out and hit the next place.”
“Did you try those on?” Mike nodded to the pile in her hands.
“Duh. This was half of what I brought in. Come on!”
Of course, she grabbed me and dragged me to the register with her. I paid for my one shirt and she tried to pull out her card but Mike got there first. He put his phone up and it charged to his card.
“Mike! I had it!”
“We would all turn old and grey if we waited for you to dig anything out of that purse. Come on. The fast we go through, the faster we can get home.”
She sighed but let it go. I smiled at my best friend and he winked. They really were perfect together. Seeing them like this used to send a little stab of jealousy through me but now I felt like I could finally just enjoy watching their silly relationship quirks.
“Okay! Here! We are getting you pants, Colton Fisher. Enough to cover you for at least a couple months without needed to pull out the hair ties.”
Groaning, I let Sabrina drag me into one of the all men’s clothing stores. Holding out my hands, I resigned myself to the inevitable pileup of pants that already started the moment we walked in. Mike chuckled to himself the entire time until he decided it was enough and he grabbed some off me. She shoved me into the dressing room and I almost screamed when Mike was shoved in with me.
“I’m supposed to help make sure it fits right and will later on too.”
Rolling my eyes, I pulled up my shirt to unhook my hair tie. “Marcus never finds out about this.”
“What? Is Professor Dreamboat jealous of me?”
“Yes, now shut up and help me.”
Mike laughed. “I’m not the one he should be worried about.”
“Oh? Who should he be worried about?”
“Rin. She’s going to steal your first born. You know that right?”
Laughing, I nodded as I slipped on the first pants. “Oh, I know. I’m just hoping that maybe the fact that it’s a dragon will deter her a little.”
“Jokes on you. She is so excited that it’s a little girl dragon. You have no idea.”
Putting my hands out, I let Mike tug on the waistline. He made an unimpressed face. Sighing, I pulled these off and tried the next one.
“You could just give her pups. Take the heat off of me.”
Mike snorted, shaking his head. “Yeah, we are definitely not ready for that. Neither of us are.”
I held out my hands again. “You think I am?”
He nodded to these and so I put them in a new pile. “Honestly, I do. I think if there was anyone who would be ready, willing, and able to love and start a new family, it’s you.”
“Why?” I couldn’t even close these ones and I whined before yanking off the pants and throwing them in the no pile. “I fucking hate this. That size would be too big normally.”
“Colton.” Mike put his hands on my stomach. “New shifter. Right here. Stop complaining about your weight.”
His soul nearly left his body as she moved just when he put his hands on me. Stepping back, his back hit the fake wall and shook the entire dressing room. Sabrina came up to the door and knocked.
“Everything okay?”
I was trying not to laugh. “Fine, Rin. Almost done.”
“Good. Hurry up. We have more places to go.” She moved away but not before throwing two more pants over the door.
“That was…”
Nodding, I shrugged. “I’ve been getting used to it.”
“Goddess above, what the actual fuck, Colt!”
“What?”
He threw his hands up as I pulled on another pair of pants. “Warn me next time?”
“You’ve been reading more material that I have! You should know!”
“Yeah but! That’s…feeling…her…is different.”
I smiled, hearing him actually call say that is was a her. “Well, imagine how I feel.”
Holding out my arms, Mike stared at me before a moment before nodded. I added it to the good pile before making grabby-hands at the pants on the door. He passed them to me and I started with the jeans.
“It’s only going to get worse.”
“I keep telling you that.”
I laughed. “I know. Now, I’m telling it to you.”
The jeans felt good and I was so happy. I hadn’t had jeans that fit for weeks. They were always more comfortable and I preferred them because I was not fancy enough for slacks or the like. The last ones didn’t fit and so I stepped out with the bad ones while Mike held the good ones. I stepped out of the dressing room and my eyes widened. Marcus was standing next to Sabrina who looked like she was going to burst out laughing at any moment.
Behind me, Mike came out but he wasn’t looking up. “I think you should get another larger size of this jean. It makes your ass look good.”
My foot stomped on his and he looked up, coughing as he saw Marcus standing next to his girlfriend.
“I mean…not that…I would…be interested…I just…”
Sabrina couldn’t hold it in and she burst out laughing. I also started to laugh but Marcus wasn’t. He motioned me to him and I stepped up to him. His finger hooked under my chin and he lifted my head up.
“Colt.”
I hummed.
“I’m not happy.”
“Well, you can help at the next store?” I offered.
He pursed his lips because I could see he was fighting a smile. “Good. I’m also paying.”
“Great! Now I don’t have to fight Colt’s stingy wallet!” Sabrina grabbed my arm and pulled me with her to the checkout.
I looked behind me to see Mike pat Marcus on shoulder a couple times. “It was never me you needed to worry about, Professor. My girlfriend has always had her claws in Colt. Join the third wheel club with me now. We have only been relegated to the wallets. Speaking of…”
Mike stepped up and used his phone again while Sabrina continued to dig in her purse again. “Mike! Stop!”
“No, now let’s go.”
