Page 36 of Loving My Omega (The Perfect Designation Trilogy #2)
Chapter
Thirty-Six
S ure enough, we pulled into the lodge parking lot around sixty-thirty. We had to slow down a little because the snow was actually really high. Marcus had to get out and put on the chains just to get to the lodge itself. For the most part, it had been cleared around the lodge but down the mountain it was snowing too much to keep up.
Getting out, my feet crunched against the snow and ice. Stretching, I was ready to walk around a little and eat. For the last fifteen minutes, my stomach had been growling non-stop. Eventually, it got loud enough for Marcus to hear which he thought was hilarious. Still, we made it and we could finally eat dinner.
I swapped to adding another jacket and then my coat, even though it seemed way to hot with how my body was generating heat. There were a lot of people here though and I didn’t want to push my luck. Marcus put his glasses back on before grabbing both our duffles from the back.
“Careful, it’s slippery.”
Rolling my eyes, I walked after him through the parking lot and into the lodge. I didn’t really know what to expect when Marcus told me about one of the places his family owned but I expected it to be nice. What I didn’t expect was it to look like a multi-billion dollar resort lodge for the rich and famous. However, the fact that there were three crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling just in the entryway made it glaringly apparent.
Picking up my pace, I stuck closer to Marcus, feeling far more uncomfortable now. He didn’t seem to be phased at all but as soon as the entryway opened up into what seemed like the main lobby, my heart plummeted. There were so many shifters that were decked out in thousands of dollars worth of winter clothing. Some of the woman even looked like they would here solely to entertain.
Omegas were hanging off their Alphas and almost every kind of shifter could be picked out in just the lobby. Putting my head down, I stuck to Marcus’ side like glue. My heart raced and all I wanted to do was run back to the car to hide.
“Colt, it’s okay. Most of the people here don’t want others to know they are here as well.”
That did not help. Marcus stepped up to the counter and set down our duffles to speak with one of the receptionists at the desk. She looked up and her eyes widened for a moment before she smiled.
“Dr. Alford! What a pleasure! I saw that there was a reservation for the night but I didn’t know if you were coming yourself.”
My eyebrow rose as I looked up at Marcus but he refused to look at me. I wanted to laugh but I pressed my lips together to stay quiet. Never once had I heard him be called doctor. It just brought back when we first found out that Marcus had a doctorate in literature.
Hush, Colt.
I didn’t say anything, Dr. Alford.
You were thinking it loud and clear.
That’s not my fault.
“Your reservation is all set and this is your room key. Is there anything else you would like to add to your stay?” The receptionist seemed genuinely nice, even in the face of speaking to someone from the Alford family.
“Actually, we were wanting to have dinner. Is that still possible or are we too late?”
She looked down at her screen. “It looks like the last full dinner service already started. However, there is still the option for room service. The dinner selection will be available for another hour, otherwise it will swap to the late night snacks until eleven. After that, the next earliest would be breakfast served from four in the morning to ten-thirty.”
“Thank you so much.”
“I’m sorry, Dr. Alford.”
Marcus shook his head and smiled. “It’s not your fault. The snow was pretty bad coming up and I should have accounted for that more. You have no control over the weather.”
She smiled and nodded. “Is there anything else? Were you thinking about skiing tomorrow? Or going to the hot springs?”
My eyebrows rose at the mention of hot springs. Marcus’ hand pressed into my back and he started to rub it.
“Not this time. Just stopping in overnight before we got up to the lair.”
Did he really call his family home the lair? Is that what the called it? Or was it specific to the Alpha dragons? So many questions raced through my mind until Marcus finally chuckled. He rubbed my back again, silencing my questions. My thoughts probably got projected to him. Damn it.
“Alright, well, if that changes, please don’t hesitate to reach out. One the phone in the room just dial pound and then zero. You will be connected to the front desk.”
“Thank you.”
Marcus grabbed the key and our bags. Turning, he took two steps before freezing. With the duffle, he gently moved me behind him a little. A female shifter, dressed in all white fur, was b-lining for Marcus with another shifter behind her. Her eyes completely focused on Marcus.
“Well! I never thought I would run into Little Blaze here!”
My eyes widened and I let out a snort. Little Blaze ? Who the hell was Little Blaze ? Looking up at Marcus, I thought he would find it funny but the look on his face was anything but amused. He was serious. Through the bond, there was pure anger simmering. Whoever this woman was, Marcus wasn’t happy to see her.
“Angelica, I’m surprised to see you here as well.” He looked at other shifter her finally caught up with her. “Dante, was it?”
“That’s right. Good to see you again, Alford.”
I was surprised that Marcus swapped the bags in his hand and shook the male shifter’s hand. The two seemed like dragons and they were both Alphas but neither were leadership level. That at least I could tell. Marcus’ hatred didn’t seem to extend to Dante, but just for Angelica.
“What are you doing here? You don’t live in the territory anymore, right? Just using Mommy and Daddy’s name to sneak a weekend in away from whatever you do now.”
Suddenly, my own anger rose. Who the hell was this woman? Miss Ebony didn’t even act like this. She already was a low bar for me dealing with people who were after Marcus.
“Just staying overnight before going to see the family. It was lovely to see you, but we really need to get to our room. It’s been a long drive.” Marcus sounded anything but enthused to see her.
Her eyes finally shifted to me and her distain showed on her face. “I didn’t know you were the type of person to bring a little toy with you.”
I growled, but it was drowned out by Marcus’. His growl stopped the activity in the lobby and a hush fell over as everyone turned. He stood at his full height and his shoulders pulled back. Even Dante had the sense to take a step back.
“Angelica, watch your mouth. You lost the right to say anything to me when you decided to try and play me for a fool. So, I suggest you stay out of my fucking business considering you never belonged anywhere near it in the first place.”
Biting my lip, I tried to hold back but the chuckle left me anyways. Angelica looked both mortified and angry. Marcus didn’t wait for her to say anything as he turned and pushed me ahead of him. I walked a couple steps but glanced back at the girl. She was glaring at us and I flipped her the bird before Marcus hit my butt with the duffle bag.
“I’m going, I’m going.” I continued down the hall to the elevator. “What a bitch. I could have taken her.”
Marcus chuckled for the first time, some of the tension leaving him. “I’m sure you could have. I just don’t want to pay for her psychological damages if you did.”
Harrumphing, I stepped into the elevator and Marcus pressed the third floor, which was the highest it went. We didn’t say anything as it rose up and Marcus took the lead down the hall to our room. Holding the key up to the pad, it unlocked and he opened it for me. Stepping in, my mouth dropped open. If I thought the lobby was fancy, this room was on a whole other level.
The entire side of the room was glass much like Marcus’ house but because we were up high, it felt like we were floating above the mountain and trees. It was dark but because there was nothing around, the stars looked incredible. Walking up to the glass, I stared at what easily could have been a painting of an imaginary sky.
“This is my favorite room here. It’s the perfect balance of sky and forest.”
I nodded absently. “I can see why. It’s beautiful.”
“Alright. Coat and jacket off. Let’s order something for dinner before it turns into late night snacks.”
Shrugging off my coat and jacket, I hung both of them up. Walking over to him, he was holding a menu in his hand. He turned it to me and I read over the options.
“I think the soup would be good. Then maybe some of the chicken pasta?”
“Is that all?”
Reading over the different options, nothing else sounded good to me. “Yeah. If they have some hot tea as well. After all that movement in the car, my stomach feels weird now.”
“Got it. Did you want to have a bath? You can see the night sky from the bathroom.”
“Yes. You don’t need to ask me twice.” I paused. “Are there really hot springs?”
Marcus smiled. “Yes, there are. Here and actually at the house too.” I opened my mouth to ask but he shook his head. “Not pregnant. They are too hot. After you give birth, we can absolutely go.”
My nose wrinkled and I huffed back over to the living room area. Pulling off my sweater, I rolled my shoulders. Marcus ordered us our food while I explored the bathroom. It was really such an incredible sky that the bathroom took advantage of. Where you could see some of the forest and mountain, in the bathroom it was built to only see the sky.
“Take a bath. Food will be here in a half hour or so.”
Turning, I smiled. “Join me?”
Marcus smiled. “If you get in now, I will.”
Turning around to face him, I started to unbutton my shirt. Halfway through I decided to make it a little more sensual of an experience. He was already watching me intently and when I finished the last button, I rolled my shoulders back. The shirt slipped off my shoulders and down my arms. Marcus growled, stepping forward before I could unhook the hair tie from the button on my pants. His lips kissed mine and he pulled me close.
“You will be the death of me, Little Omega.”
I hummed, sliding my hands up and starting to unbutton his shirt. “Good. Come join me.”
“Colt, come on. We need to get up.”
Rolling over, I curled up under the sheets. It was too early. I didn’t know what time it was but it was too early. Suddenly, even under the covers, the light shone and I groaned.
“Mar, just like…three more hours.”
He chuckled. “No. We need to go. I want to be up the mountain before it starts to snow again.”
Groaning, I sat up and rubbed my eyes. He’d opened up the blinds and the morning sun was shinning through. Rubbing my eyes, I received a kiss on my forehead.
“Come on, sleepy. If we can get out with a snack, we can have lunch at my parents.”
Slowly, I got out of bed. I went through my routine half asleep, even after washing my face. We didn’t go to bed too late but I still felt exhausted. Walking out of the bathroom, I was happy to see that Marcus took care of the heavy lifting by packing us up again.
“Mate, your shirt it on inside out.”
I looked down, squinting to trying figure out if he was just messing with me. Marcus came over and went down on one knee in front of me. He unbuttoned my shirt and flipped it around for me. Slipping my arms in the sleeves, I let him button me up as I rubbed my eyes.
“Alright. Let’s go.”
Nodding, I made sure my sweater was correct before pulling it on. I put my coat on and carried my jacket. Right now, I was feeling too warm to put it on and opted to just carry it in front of me. We headed out and I was surprised to see quite a few people around. Even more people were in the lobby but everyone had some kind of ski or snowboarding equipment.
We went back to the front desk and another receptionist, far more phased by the fact that she was talking to Marcus, helped up. He passed over the room key and she stuttered through the entire ‘thank you, come again’ process. It was actually kind of endearing.
It was freezing outside but I took a deep breath and let out a sigh. Marcus walked ahead of me and I realized he was melting the snow for me to walk behind him. Shaking my head, I followed in his little path until we got to the car.
“Marcus!” An angry, high pitched, and familiar voice called out to him.
I was holding open the passenger door when I saw the female dragon from last night storming up to him. Part of me was too tired to deal with her and the other part, my wolf, wanted to put this female in her place.
“Angelica, I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay but I really do need to leave.” Marcus wasn’t even entertaining a conversation with her.
“Marcus! If you’re just going to cart some fuck toy around, you should have just accepted me! At least I wouldn’t be a disappointment!”
Marcus slammed the back door shut. “If you remember, you wanted my brother. Not me. On top of that, you didn’t want a family and it is very obvious that you still feel that way. I did not and will not entertain the idea that someone throws something that means so much to me in my face. All while trying to be my partner in life. I’ve had enough of that. You were the first, but you certainly weren’t that last.” He looked over at me. “I found the only person I intend on being with. No matter the opinion of anyone and especially not your worthless opinion.”
He walked around the car and I got in closing the door as he opened his. “We were never going to work. That will never change. You weren’t good enough for my brother and you weren’t good enough for me. I suggest you go back to your fated because there is nothing here for you.”
Marcus got in and slammed the door shut. She started to yell at the car as we pulled away but he didn’t even look back. Turning onto the road, he didn’t look happy. After a few minutes, he sighed and shook his head.
“I’m sorry, Colt. I wish I could say this would be the last one try pitch a fit but...”
“It’s okay. I get it. I’m just sorry you still have to deal with it.” I looked over at him. “I don’t mind claiming my Alpha.”
Finally, he cracked a smile. I reached out, peeling one of his hands from the steering wheel and lacing my fingers between his. He held mine and then lifted it, kissing the back of my hand.
“We are going to have to speak with your parents. Eventually.”
“ Mine ? Why?”
Marcus raised an eyebrow. “Colt, you may have broken from the pack, but I mated you without your parents permission. You are a Fisher, no matter how they treated you. Add in that I’m an Alford and it’s a big deal.”
“I can’t…Marcus…I can’t like this.” I motioned to me. “It’s only going to get worse. I’m not…”
“I’ll talk to my dad. We can probably push it out to the summer but just be aware. We are going to end up meeting with them.”
Sitting back in my seat, I felt any excitement deflate. I thought that if I broke from the pack it was also breaking from my family. My father never told me to remove me from the family name, just to come back. So, I could still throw around the Fisher name but now I wish I would have changed that too.
