“I remember. It’s nice to see you again.”
“I keep hoping Clay will bring you by the diner again sometime soon.”
I smiled and nodded. “I’ll remind him to do that. We just start our day early and like to settle in early at night.”
I blushed at the thoughts of how we really were spending our evenings.
Ruby hooted. “Sure, just getting settled. That’s code word for sex, Kate.”
My eyes widened as my head whipped towards her.
“Don’t even try to deny it. That boy would be on you twenty-four seven if you both weren’t so dang responsible when it comes to work.”
My cheeks darkened to a color I imagined barely topped the red scale and probably heading into purple.
“Stop embarrassing her,” Sydney said. “We’ve all been there.”
“Thank you,” I mouthed to her.
“Hang in there. This really is a fun group, and this outfit looks super cute on you.”
“Thanks, for everything. Really. I had no idea what to wear tonight, but looks like I chose okay,” I admitted looking around the room and see the others were all dressed casually too.
“It’s perfect. But if you’re ever stressing about it, just call me.”
“Oh, um, okay.”
I didn’t have her number and didn’t even know how to go about asking someone for that information.
“Did you even give her your number?” Ruby asked rudely.
“Oh, probably not. If you have your cell phone, I can program it in real quick,” Sydney offered.
“Um okay.”
I handed her my phone.
She typed in her information but didn’t hand it back to me. Instead, she passed it to Peyton and soon my phone traveled all the way around the room as people started programming in their numbers.
Ruby was the last to get it. She handed it back to me.
“There you go. You have everyone that matters now.”
“Ruby,” Lily warned.
“What?”
“Sometimes she doesn’t even realize how she sounds.”
“Me? That’s rich coming from you,” Ruby challenged Lily.
“Whatever. Occasionally we do have others, but we didn’t want to overwhelm you, so we kept it small tonight. This is sort of my closest inner circle, at least here in Collier Pack.”
“What does that mean?”
“Oh, Lily hails from Westin Pack.”
“Oh,” I managed to say.
