Page 45 of His True Mate
“I think I’d be okay with that,” I blurted out.
He groaned but pulled me away from the door to open it and then smacked my ass to get moving.
“You’re gonna be the death of me,” he muttered.
I wasn’t sure I was supposed to hear that, but I responded anyway.
“But you’ll die happy.”
I had no idea where this boldness was coming from, but I loved it. It made me feel powerful in a way I’d only ever felt when taming a bronco, and even that paled in comparison.

Chapter 11
I hadn’t intended to kiss her, and I certainly hadn’t planned to touch her, but I was clearly weak when it came to my mate. There was nothing I wouldn’t do or give her. Apparently, all she had to do was ask.
Leaving my office had been one of the hardest things I’d ever done, and I knew I would never work in there quite the same again.
She seemed a bit restless as we drove back to the house.
“Wow! Look at that horse. He’s beautiful,” she said when I drove by the stables.
I slowed and pulled in for her to get a closer look.
Dalton Draper was sitting on a bench near the corral where the horse was running around in circles.
“Dalton, are you okay?” I asked.
“I’m getting too old for this shit. Never met a horse I couldn’t break, but this one’s going to be a challenge,” he fussed.
“He’s wild,” Winnie said in awe.
“He is. The boys found him this weekend and wrangled him back. Never seen him before.”
“He looks a bit like my Denver,” she said.
Winnie climbed up on the fence and sat watching the beast.
“You be careful, girlie. That one has the fire of Satan in him,” Dalton warned.
“Winnie, you shouldn’t get so close.”
Too late.
I watched in horror as my girl dropped down into the corral and walked right up to the large horse.
“Hey boy,” she said. “You like wide-open spaces too, don’t you?”
She held her hand out and the horse calmed just a little as he examined it. She pet his long nose before he spooked and reared back.
“No!” I yelled, but Winnie was fast.
In a flash she was scrambling back over the fence.
Dalton shook his head. “You have a death wish or something? I told you that beast is as wild as they come.”
Winnie grinned and shook her head. “He’s magnificent.”
