"What?"
"I almost want to ask you now," he said softly, making me stop in my tracks.
"What?!" I squeaked out, his eyes dragging over my body as he tugged me onto the bed.
"But you deserve the best. I couldn't ask you to marry me in bed. I'm just not that guy."
"Please?" I begged as he shook his head.
"Do you want to marry me, Layla? Or do you just want me inside of you?" he growled, pulling me onto him as I shivered with delight.
"God, can't I have both?" I laughed as he suddenly looked at me seriously. "What?" I panicked as he shrugged.
"Nothing. I just love that you want to marry me so much," he said smugly as I rolled my eyes.
"Pfft. You're nothing special, son."
"Oh, that's a shame. I was going to suggest we got hitched."
"Go to sleep, you beautiful man," I yawned as I slid off his lap, curling up beside him. As I fell asleep, he whispered in my ear how much he loved me, followed by something in a language that I didn't understand.
"Vuoi sposarmi."
I was too tired to ask, and when I woke in the morning, I couldn't remember what he had said to ask him. I probably dreamt it anyway.
*Vuoi sposarmi—Do you want to marry me?

The doctor lifted his eyes to mine as he spoke quietly.
“Lucas has lost a lot of blood, but I’ve got him through the worst of it.”
I narrowed my eyes at the doctor and the line of men that stood behind him.
“He should have gone to a fucking hospital,” I said through gritted teeth as a couple of the men exchanged nervous glances.
“Boss said never take him to the hospital, its-”
“I don’t give a fuck what he said. If it’s a case of him dying or you taking him to the hospital, you fucking take him. You tell them you stabbed him yourself if need be.”
Silence fell in the room, and I waved my hand.
“Please leave us. Doctor, what happens next?”
The doctor sighed, his gaze falling on the bed where Lucas lay, sleeping soundly.
“He needs to heal. He has to rest, and Mr. Deacon doesn’t like to do that. When he was shot—”
My eyebrows flew up at his words.
“Sorry, what?”
“He was shot in the back once; luckily, it missed any major arteries. But he was a devil of a patient. He can be quite terrifying when he wants to be,” The Doctor admitted as I groaned.
“Ok. What does he need now?” I demanded, crossing my arms as I stared at Lucas.
