“Did you get butterflies when you met him?” Gretchen pressed.
I tried to avoid Zane’s gaze as I smiled.
“Yep. All of that.” I smiled weakly as Alice walked over, sitting beside me.
“Is he any good in bed?” Alice winked as I colored quickly.
Now came the tricky part. I refused to discuss my sex life with anyone. It was private.
“Alice,” said Zane quietly as she met his eyes. “Don’t.”
Alice shrugged and drained a glass of champagne.
“I couldn’t marry anyone if they weren’t good in the sack.” Alice pointed out as Cal stared skywards.
“No one would marry you anyway. You’re too high maintenance.” Cal chuckled as Alice met his gaze.
“They’d need to be able to handle me, that’s for sure.”
“Wonderful. One kid is upstairs banging his wife, one is celibate, and one is telling me she’s a minx in the bedroom. Rosie, tell me Layla is the same,” Cal pleaded as she glanced at me proudly.
“I can’t say that she is.”
“I just need the bathroom,” I muttered, walking towards the back door.
“Use the downstairs one; I don’t know if Caleb is in the one upstairs,” Cal called and I groaned inwardly. I walked in, trying to remember which way the bathroom was. I wandered down a hallway with two doors and opened the first one.
Lounge.
I turned to try the other, only to come face to face with Zane.
“Are you lost?” Zane whispered as I tried not to stare at his lips.
“Uh, yeah...”
He gazed at me for a minute before sucking on his bottom lip.
“Follow me.”
His scent was intoxicating. He moved quietly down the hallway before pointing to the opposite end.
“It’s on the right.”
“Thanks,” I murmured as I went to walk away.
“Layla,” he said softly, and I jumped, turning to look at him with wide eyes. His green gaze drifted over me painfully slowly as he stepped closer to me. “Did you? Get butterflies?”
My stomach was twisting as I tried to regulate my breathing.
“What?” I whispered as he moved even closer to me. I could see his tanned chest peeking out of his top, his hair falling into his eyes as he studied me.
“When you met Steve. Did you get butterflies?”
As he spoke, my stomach erupted with a cageful of them, all fluttering to get out.
“Yes, of course,” I answered quickly as he placed a hand on either side of me.
“Like the ones you have now?” Zane murmured, raising an eyebrow at me.
