Chapter forty-one

Silas

Death by fork to the eye.

~ Two Weeks Later / August ~

Today was our first appointment with the doctor.

The appointment pretty much consisted of questions, answers, and any information and guidelines we needed.

Since we’re both first-time parents, there were a lot of things we didn’t know, along with rules we needed to follow to make sure that Mommy and baby stay healthy.

Turns out Cecilia is eleven weeks pregnant, which meant we were able to have an ultrasound done right away.

When our little one appeared on the screen, Cecilia burst into tears.

Hell, even I turned on the waterworks. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen, listening to the heartbeat of that tiny little human inside of her.

Our tiny little human.

The doctor informed us that everything looks perfect, and our baby seems totally healthy.

She then sent us home afterwards with a whole bunch of informational pamphlets and guidelines to follow, as well as black and white pictures of baby Hayes.

Cecilia doesn’t know it yet, but I’m already planning on getting them enlarged and framed.

We haven’t told anyone else about the pregnancy. But since Minnie is almost done with the first trimester, we figured we could start telling people slowly, beginning with my family. And since tonight happens to be our family dinner night, we thought it would be the best time to share the news.

“Are you nervous?” I ask my wife from the driver’s side while I park in front of my parents’ home.

“A little, but I know they’ll be happy. Your mom has made it abundantly clear how much she would like me to give her a grandchild.” Cecilia giggles and shakes her head. She’s right, the number of times my mom has talked about babies since Cecilia and I got together is ridiculous .

“She’s definitely gonna cry.” I look at the front door, picturing the scene already in my head.

“Oh, definitely.”

I take the time to stare at my gorgeous pregnant wife, and I’m in absolute awe. Her hair is down in those beautiful, rich chocolate curls that I love so much. And she’s wearing a simple knee-length sleeveless dress that hugs her glorious curves.

I keep watching every day to see if I can catch sight of her belly growing, but except for a little bloating, it’s still pretty flat. Although the doctor said it would start showing soon. God, I can’t wait.

The dress is the same color as my eyes. She said that’s why she bought it because it reminded her of me. And her outfit finishes with ridiculously high black pumps. She looks sexy as fuck, but we did have a little disagreement concerning the heels.

I was afraid she’d trip or break her ankle and harm the baby, to which she responded that she was not handicapped and could still walk in heels, even if she’s pregnant.

I’ll let it slide for now, but once that bump starts showing, I’m burning every pair.

She turns her head my way while leaning against the headrest and smiles. A slight blush forms over her cheeks when she notices I’m admiring her. I remember when she used to always blush in the early days. I love that I can still manage to make it happen, even after almost two years.

Shit, how has it already been so long?

Her hand comes up to my jaw, delicately gliding her thumb back and forth. “You and me,” she whispers in the quiet space.

I grab her hand and kiss her wrist. “You and me.”

We exit the car and walk hand in hand to the front door. I look to my girl for the go-ahead to enter, and she nods with a smile. Pushing the door open, we walk in, and my brother comes into view just as I close the door.

“Holy shit, sis! What did you do to that rack!?” His eyes are nearly bulging out of his head while he stares at my wife’s breasts.

I told her they had grown, but she didn’t believe me. I know my Minnie’s breasts like the back of my hand.

Cecilia looks down and frowns, then back at me. I give her an ‘ I told you ’ look and chuckle, which makes her glare.

Suddenly, my mom pops her head out from the kitchen. She takes one look at Cecilia and shrieks, coming fully into view and practically jumping into my wife’s arms. “OH MY GOD! You’re pregnant!”

Minnie’s jaw drops open, and she looks at me with wide eyes. Then they narrow like she thinks I may have said something, which I didn’t. I shake my head slightly, telling her so.

“Oh, John! Come quick! We’re going to be grandparents!” My mother has turned into a blubbering mess, crying all over my wife.

“Wait, wait. How do you know she’s pregnant?

We literally just walked through the door and haven’t said a word.

” I scratch my head, trying to think of how they could have figured it out so easily.

Cecilia and I had spent hours figuring out the best way to tell them, but now it seems that was all a waste of time.

Mom stretches her arms out, holding on to my girl by her shoulders to observe her from head to toe. “The boobs, they really grew. How far along are we?” Mom looks from me to Cecilia, whose eyes are watering with a smile on her face.

“Eleven weeks,” I answer for us.

“ELEVEN WEEKS!? Oh, my poor, sweet girl... those are not done growing. Mine grew at least twice their size when I was pregnant with Silas. And my breasts are much smaller than yours.”

“Jesus, Ma! Please don’t talk about your tits,” Spence says from beside her with a palm running down his face before I catch him staring at Cecilia’s chest again. I shoot daggers at him, but he’s too focused to even notice.

“Hey! Your mother has beautiful tits, if she wants to talk about them, let her.” My dad joins in from behind them, smacking my brother in the back of the head. “And stop staring at your sister-in-law’s.”

“THANK YOU!” I say loudly, then glare again at my brother.

My dad comes to stand beside my mom, placing his arm around her shoulders. She finally lets go of Cecilia and clasps her hands together against her chest, pure joy shining through her eyes.

“Is it true, little one? Are you making me a grandpa?”

Cecilia takes a step back, coming to my side, where she places one of her hands on my chest and looks up into my eyes. A breathtaking smile stretches over her lips, adoration written all over her features. “It’s true, we’re having a baby.”

I bring my hands to her waist, smiling broadly. “We’re having a baby.” I lower and kiss her lips in front of my family.

The next minutes are rewarded with congratulations and excited cries. It’s a beautiful moment, even if we’re still standing in the entrance hall.

“Okay, how about we let these kids come in, and then we can get all the details over dinner? I’m sure everyone’s getting hungry,” my father says, pulling my mother back by the shoulder.

“Oh right, yes, food. I’m sorry, I’m just so happy. Come in, come in. Everyone go take a seat, I’ll bring out the food,” Mom says as she turns and heads for the kitchen, the rest of us following behind on our way to the dining room.

“Do you need help bringing things over, Mira?” Cecilia asks while I pull out her chair for her to sit.

“Oh no, sweetheart. You sit down and relax. We don’t want to overwork you,” my mother replies from the kitchen as Minnie sits down with a head shake and a chuckle.

“Why is it that everyone suddenly thinks I’m incapable of doing anything now that I’m pregnant?” she says under her breath, only loud enough for me to hear.

I push her chair in and kiss her temple before I take the one beside her. “Because we care about you and the baby, and we want you both to be as healthy as possible. Take advantage of it, baby. You now have personal servants at your mercy.”

“Well, now that you put it that way...” She gives me a wicked smile full of mischief.

A few minutes later, we’re all seated and enjoying my mother’s famous lasagna. I don’t know what she puts in it, but it’s incredible. I’ve never had one that tastes the same.

“I can’t believe we all called it. I should have bet on it,” Spencer says from his seat in front of Cecilia, shaking his head as he laughs.

“Called what?” I ask with a frown.

“That sis was pregnant. At her party, we all noticed she wasn’t drinking.

Which makes no sense because it was her birthday party.

Plus, all the girls were being really secretive and would stop talking the minute one of us got within in earshot.

” He looks up from his plate and his gaze lands once again on Cecilia’s chest.

“brO! I swear to God, if you don’t stop looking at my wife’s rack, I’m going to stab you in the eye with my fork!” I growl, slamming my fist on the table, making everyone jump.

“What!? It’s not my fault, they’re huge. I mean, they were always big, but they look bigger now. Maybe it’s the bra you’re wearing or the dress. I don’t know, but something is making them pop.” He’s still staring as he talks, and I’m starting to see red.

And just to make it even worse, Cecilia has to add, “I’m not wearing a bra.” I swear, she loves seeing me lose control.

“Damn! And they hold that nicely?” Spence says with his eyes wide and brows hitting his hairline.

“That’s it.” I stand quickly, knocking my chair to the ground, and reach over the table to grab my brother by the collar .

“BOYS! That’s enough! Settle down!” my mother yells at the same time as my father places a hand on my shoulder. “Let him go, son. We’ll deal with your brother later.”

I give my brother one last vicious look, then push him back while I let go and bend to pick up my chair. Settling back down beside my wife, she giggles behind her hand. “You enjoying this, Minnie?”

“Oh, absolutely. You can punish me for it later.” She kisses my cheek and winks.

This woman.

“Spencer, be a little more respectful toward your brother’s wife,” my mother rebukes him, then turns her attention back to me and Cecilia. “Anyway, how are you dealing with the symptoms so far, honey?”
