Chapter Seven

GIOVANNA

I ’ve been locked in Capone’s arms for some time now and I still wasn’t ready for him to release me.

I could hear the small chatter going on behind me, but it all sounded like gibberish.

I was in another world. I would have never suspected that Gabi would know the person who was responsible for all my pain.

I was going crazy trying to think of who could have done this. I didn’t have any friends and the only family I talked to daily was my mom and my siblings. So, I knew for a fact no one in my life would do this.

To know that Gabi had been around her kidnapper often enough to make her smile the way she did made my stomach turn.

My baby was innocent. She had no idea what was happening when they took her.

Whoever this person was obviously had some kind of vendetta against my family.

To go as far to kill Derek and now take my baby, none of this was making sense.

I just hoped Danny could give us some answers because I was drawing blanks on who could be behind this.

The more I thought about this whole situation, the more my body shook with tremors. I closed my eyes, trying to calm myself, but that only made things worse. All I could see was Gabrielle clinging to her kidnapper as they got into the car.

My chest tightened as my breathing became shallow.

Capone squeezed me harder and rocked our bodies from side to side.

“Calm down, Sugar. Listen to the sound of my voice. Take a deep breath for me like you did yesterday.” Instantly, my body followed his command before I realized what was happening. “That’s it. Good girl. Now let it go.”

He did this for a couple of minutes until I fully relaxed. His fingers raked through my hair, causing me to shudder. He lightly scratched my scalp, almost making me want to take a nap.

I didn’t know what it was about being in this man’s arms, but I felt cared for and safe. I needed that right now. Every time I was on the verge of losing it, he somehow managed to pull me back. I truly didn’t understand how I had developed these kinds of feelings for a man I met yesterday.

A knock on the door broke my thoughts. I pulled away from Capone and peeked around him to see Viper standing in the doorway.

“Mercury just pulled through the gates. Did you want me to bring them back here or take them to the common room?”

“Common room.” Cara gathered up her laptop and we followed behind her as she led us to the room. Viper was at the bar with a few brothers. They were engrossed in their own conversation.

I gritted my teeth when I saw Nicole sitting down next to Danny. I hoped whatever talk Mercury said he was going to have with her worked. I would not sit back and watch her throw digs at Cara and Sara today.

“What have you found?” Mercury asked as soon as we all took a seat.

“The same person who killed Derek took Gabrielle.” Cara handed him a file she had made. Mercury’s jaw dropped as he skimmed over it. “That’s not all. Take a look at this.” She flipped her laptop around, sat it on the coffee table, and played the footage of Gabi smiling at the suspect.

“Gabrielle knew this person.” Mercury gasped with a deep frown.

“It appears so and that’s why I asked you to bring Danny.”

“Me?” Danny pointing at himself.

“Yes. You and Derek were like Batman and Robin. You two were always stuck together like glue. If anyone knew if he was having problems with someone, it would be you.”

Danny ran his hand down his face and sighed. “If he was having problems with someone, he didn’t tell me about it.” He briefly averted his eyes from Cara’s intense stare before locking his gaze with hers again.

“He wasn’t having problems with anyone?” Cara asked in disbelief.

“No.” Danny looked away again, appearing to look a bit nervous.

I felt like he was lying but what proof did I have. It was just a gut feeling. The way he couldn’t look anyone in their eyes wasn’t sitting right with me.

“You sure?” Cara continued to question him.

“He said he doesn’t know. Is this an interrogation or something?” Nicole snapped. Her voice was loaded with attitude.

I opened my mouth to tell her about herself, but Cara beat me to it. She slammed the laptop shut and sat forward on the couch. She rested her elbows on her knees, staring directly at Nicole.

“Okay, lets lay all this shit on the line because I’m getting really tired of you and this one-sided beef you got going on. What the fuck is your problem?” Cara sneered at her.

Her action gained the attention from all the brothers including her husband who was sitting at the bar.

He started to make his way over, but Cara raised her hand and told him she was fine.

Viper didn’t sit back down though. He stayed standing off to the side, watching Danny and Nicole like he was ready to pounce if they even twitched the wrong way.

“I don’t have a problem.” Nicole shrugged with a smirk as she examined her nails.

“Oh no, I beg to differ. Since you have been here, it’s been one dig after the other and I’m trying to figure it out. I mean, was it me that befriended you and fucked your boyfriend behind your back or was it the other way around?” Cara tilted her head to the side.

What the hell?

Danny cheated on Cara with Nicole, and they were friends? No wonder she looked ready to rip their heads off when we first walked into that conference room.

Instead of feeling ashamed about Cara calling her out for what she had done, Nicole smirk grew into a taunting smile.

“And there it is. You’re mad because Danny chose me. I feel bad you got hurt but we love each other.”

I didn’t know what kind of backhanded apology she called herself giving, but she could have kept that to herself. She didn’t even look like she held an ounce of remorse as she seemed all too happy to tell Cara how Danny chose her.

Cara threw her head back, clutching her stomach, as she roared with laughter. The smile on Nicole’s face dropped instantly.

Cara wiped the tears from her eyes as she tried to get herself together.

“Girl, please tell me that’s a joke. Don’t nobody want Danny.

Look over there. You see my man. That six-foot-five, panty-melting Greek god has my head gone for him.

Got me popping out babies left and right because that’s what he wants.

When I think about it, I really should thank you. ”

“Thank me?” Nicole snarled.

“Yup. I was never happy with Danny. I was settling, thinking it couldn’t get any better, but boy was I wrong.” She turned to Viper with a wink, smiling from ear to ear. Viper licked his lips as his gaze turned lustful.

“Whatever. You’ll say anything to save face. I know it killed you because he chose me and not you .” Nicole pointed a shaky finger at Cara as if she was about to blow at any second.

“And there it is,” Cara mocked Nicole, smiling triumphantly as it seemed she figured something out.

“What does that mean?!” Nicole shouted.

“This was never about Danny. This was about your jealousy of me.”

“Jealous?! I have no reason to be jealous of you.”

“If this was truly over Danny, you would feel no need to have a problem with me. You got your man, and I got mine. But this thing is deeper than that. You hated Sara and me from the time we came into the STF. You couldn’t stand how quickly we climbed the ladder of success.

But from the moment I got that promotion, making me your superior, that’s when truly began to despise me.

You thought taking Danny would break me, but it didn’t.

It kills you to know the hand you played failed.

When I left STF, you thought you won but look at me now.

I own my own business, making more money than the STF could ever offer.

I have a loving husband, beautiful children, and a loyal family behind my back.

You hate me because you want to be me. But, sweetheart, please take any misfortunes in your life up with God.

You got Danny like you wanted, so there isn’t a reason for you to have a problem with me, unless my assumptions are right?

” Cara leaned back on the couch with a smirk.

Nicole looked like she could spit fire. Her silence confirmed everything Cara said had to be true.

She didn’t have a single rebuttal. To be honest, what Cara said made a lot of sense.

If it was truly about loving Danny, why the hell did she still have a problem?

If anyone had a right to be mad, it was Cara, but she had truly been the peaceful one in this situation.

Danny had balls of steel for coming here after betraying her. You could see the guilt all over his face as he stared openly at Cara. He still had feelings for her. That much was clear.

“Well?” Cara asked as she tilted her head to the side.

Nicole gritted her teeth before she abruptly stood from her chair and stormed out of the clubhouse. Sara raised her hand to her sister as they slapped their hands. “I was wondering when you were finally going to check her,” Sara said.

“I’m so sorry about her behavior, Cara. I’m going to send her back home,” Mercury told her with regret swirling in his eyes.

“You don’t have to do that. I’m sure she won’t be a problem anymore.”

Everyone stared at Cara in disbelief. I thought for sure she would be one hundred percent behind Nicole being sent home.

“Are you sure?” Mercury asked.

“Yup. You two can go back to the hotel. Since Danny doesn’t know anything, we’re going to have to dig a little deeper.”

Danny still had his eyes on Cara. He was barely blinking.

If he didn’t get it together, I feared for his safety.

Viper looked ready to slit his throat. Sara noticed it as well and quickly ushered Danny and Mercury out of the clubhouse.

When she came back, she asked the question I’m sure everyone was thinking.

“Why did you tell him to let Nicole stay?”
