Chapter Twenty-Six
GIOVANNA
T oday was exactly what I needed. The spa day that Blade had promised all the ladies was finally here. I had already gotten a facial and a nice deep tissue massage. After the past few days, my body was beat. Relieving the tensions from my body had me feeling like I was floating on a cloud.
While physically I might have been exhausted, mentally, I was in a great place.
Yesterday, my lawyer called and told me Whitney had dropped the case.
I still hadn’t heard from her or Dennis.
Hell, not even Danny. I wasn’t complaining, though.
After years of suffering within that family, I deserved a break.
I had no intention of keeping them away from Gabi.
Regardless of how I felt about them, she loved them, and I wouldn’t stand in the way as long as they respected that I was her mother.
There would definitely be some restrictions moving forward. I didn't trust them at all.
I would give them a little time before reaching out. I was sure Dennis was not a fan of me right now. If and when I reached out and they wanted nothing to do with Gabi, then I would move on. I wasn’t going to force anyone to be a part of her life. She was too special for that.
“Ouch,” I winced, pulling my foot back when the nail technician working on my pedicure dug a little too deep into my cuticles.
This had happened a few times, and it seemed no matter how much discomfort I showed, she didn’t lighten up. If anything, she went harder. I was beginning to get pissed.
“Keep your foot still,” she said with loads of attitude.
“I would if you weren’t digging into my toes like you’re searching for gold,” I snapped.
I didn’t know what this lady’s problem was, but I was ready for a new technician. She clearly had an attitude for whatever reason, and I wasn’t about to allow her to ruin my day.
“I’m just doing my job.” She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
“Your job is to lighten up if I tell you. You’re being too rough.”
Another woman approached us. She must be the one in charge because she was dressed professionally in a pencil skirt and a white buttoned-down blouse. “Hi, I’m Nora, the owner. Is everything okay?” she asked me with a concerned expression.
There were three employees standing a few feet behind her. My nail technician stared at them with hate-filled eyes.
“No, it’s not. I don’t like to complain, but I want another nail tech. I’ve asked her several times to lighten up, and she refuses. Look at my feet. They're literally red and irritated from how hard she was using her tools.”
Nora looked down at my feet, and her eyes widened in horror. I wasn’t exaggerating. At this point, the Ol’ Ladies had stopped their chatter and were now paying full attention to the confrontation taking place.
“Oh, hell no. What the hell happened to her feet?” Crystal blurted from beside me. Her face was morphed into a deep scowl as she stared at the owner and nail tech.
“I am so sorry about all of this. A few of my employees came and got me when they noticed Allegra was being a little rough with her customer. I came out right away.” She paused and looked down at the nail tech I now knew as Allegra.
“This is unacceptable. You’re one of my top nail techs, which is the only reason I had you working with this exclusive party. How did this happen?”
Allegra’s cheeks turned pink in embarrassment. “I-it was an accident. She wouldn’t stop moving and?—”
“Oh, see, we aren’t about to do that. You are not going to blame the customer. You’re the professional. It is your job to ensure that these kinds of things don’t happen,” Crystal snapped. She was now out of her chair, standing next to me.
“Exactly,” Nora agreed. “Again, Allegra, I’m going to ask, how did this happen?”
“I-it was an accident!” she claimed.
“No, it wasn’t,” Sara said as she looked at one of the employees standing behind Nora. “You’ve been darting your eyes around nervously since you walked in here. You know something. Don’t bother lying to me. I was an interrogator for four years. I know when someone is hiding something.”
Nora faced the girl Sara was talking to. “Is that true, Iris? Were you in on this?”
“No!” she shouted immediately. “I didn’t say anything because Allegra said there wouldn’t be any problems, but then I started watching her, and that’s when I came and got you.”
“I’m confused as to what could be a problem. None of us has seen this girl a day in our lives,” Cara spoke up.
Iris swallowed, pulling at the hem of her shirt. “Jamie is Allegra’s cousin.”
That girl was like a bad infection that wouldn’t go away. Her sister had already been dragged by a truck, trying to defend Jamie’s honor, and now her cousin was foolishly doing the same thing.
I didn’t understand women like this. I wouldn’t beg or chase no man to be with me. I certainly wouldn’t harass his girlfriend because he didn’t want me.
For Allegra to clearly know who I was and intentionally inflict pain on me, all because her delusional-ass cousin was mad, had me fuming inside. When I got out of here, Luca and I would be having a long talk.
I already had to deal with one scorned lover, and I refused to deal with another. He needed to get Jamie and all her little minions in check.
“Are you serious? You did all this over a relationship that’s not even yours?!” I hissed. I stood toe-to-toe with Allegra, ready to inflict some pain of my own. I wasn’t a violent person, but at this moment, I was pissed, and I felt violated.
“Wait, what’s going on?” Nora questioned in confusion.
“Jamie is a woman my boyfriend used to deal with. She’s been causing me nothing but problems since the moment she found out about me, and now it seems your employee is doing the same.”
Nora didn’t even need to question if it was true. The glare Allegra was sending my way was all the answer she needed.
“Girl, you better fix your face before I help you do it,” Crystal threatened.
“That is not fair, Mama. How are you going to tell me that if I enact any violence today, there would be severe consequences, but then you do it?” Cara asked, frowning at her mother, appearing betrayed.
Crystal pinned Cara with a look that made her snap her mouth closed. A few of the Ol’ Ladies shook their heads, giggling.
Nora turned to me, and I could see the remorse in her eyes. “I am so sorry about all of this. This is not the way I conduct my business.” Facing Allegra, she said, “You’re fired. Clear out your locker. This was unprofessional on so many levels.”
“What?! I’m the best nail tech you have!”
“Part of being the best is being professional. Leave, Allegra.”
Everyone’s mouth dropped open as we watched Allegra hock up saliva and spit in Nora’s face. “Fuck you, Nora!” Allegra screamed and stomped away.
“Are you kidding me?!” Nora shrieked, wiping the spit from her face.
“Umm, is that all you’re going to do? Lady, you are better than me. I would be beating her ass like a drum.” Cara shook her head. “Maybe you’re not much of a fighter. I got a stun gun if you want to use it.”
Nora looked at Cara sheepishly. “No, that’s alright. Karma will get her in the end.”
“Oh, go get her? Bet. You ain’t got to tell me twice.” Cara got up from her chair and started to go up the hall that Allegra had disappeared down.
“Cara, what the hell are you doing? This lady didn’t tell you to do a damn thing,” Bianca said in between laughs.
“She said Karma will get her. Helllloooo. That’s me in the flesh.”
Everyone burst into laughter, including Nora and her employees. Little did they know, Cara was dead serious.
What a hell of a spa day.
After the drama died down, Nora promised to give us half off the next time we decided to reserve the spa. Everyone agreed to come back. Outside of the drama with Allegra, we had a good time. There was no need to let one bad apple spoil the bunch.
I had just left the spa, and despite the bullshit I had been through, I was still in a good mood. That was until I noticed a black SUV following me. Ever since Gabi got snatched, and Cara told me how Asha had followed me that entire day, I always watched my rearview mirror now.
I tapped the screen in my car and dialed Luca’s number. Right as he picked up, the SUV sped up and slammed into the back of my car. “LUCA!” I screamed in fear.
“Giovanna! What is it?!” he barked into the phone.
Just as I was about to speak, the SUV rammed into me again, making me cry out. “AHH!”
“Giovanna! Baby, answer me!”
“Somebody’s trying to run me off the road.”
I swerved into the next lane, trying to keep them off my tail, but they were relentless. They slammed into me again, and I almost lost control.
“Luca!” I cried, tears streaming down my face.
“Hold on, baby. I’m checking your location…. Okay, you’re not far from the pawn shop the club owns. I will guide you there. Just haul ass, baby. Thor and the guys will be out front waiting for you.”
Luca gave me instructions on how to get to the shop, all while I was dipping in between lanes and cars, trying to get away from this psycho. I was at odds with more than one person, so I couldn’t pinpoint who could be responsible for this.
I would love to believe my father wouldn’t do something like this, but I didn’t even recognize him anymore to put that much faith in him.
Then there were Derek’s parents. Getting me out of the picture would ensure they get custody of Gabi.
And last but not least, Jamie. She had disappeared a while ago and hadn’t been heard from. With the way she was obsessed with Luca, I wouldn’t put this past her.
I could finally see the shop ahead of me. I pressed the pedal to the floor, gunning it to the shop. The SUV slammed into me once more, right as I reached the shop. I sharply turned my wheel, jumping the curb into the parking lot.
Thor, Smoke, Armor, and Storm were waiting out front with their guns drawn. The SUV kept going, prompting Storm and Armor to hop on their bikes and go after them.
“Giovanna! You there? ANSWER, BABY!” Luca pleaded through the speakers of my car. My poor man sounded scared out of his mind. That made two of us.
“I’m here,” I croaked as my chest heaved between my sobs.
Smoke opened my car door, unfastened my seat belt, and pulled me out. He wrapped me in a hug, kissing me on top of my head. It reminded me of something a father would do.
“It’s okay. We got you,” Smoke said soothingly as I wept in his arms.
I could hear Thor talking to Luca, telling him I was here and unharmed. Luca said he was on his way, and I breathed out a sigh of relief. Once he was here, I would feel completely safe.
I didn’t know who was behind this attack, but I knew my man was about to set this world on fire until he figured out who it was.
